Qian Heng’s left eye had been twitching since that morning.
Did having the left eye twitch symbolise disaster or was it fortune? He was a little uncertain.
“Qian Heng! The Law Association is hosting an event on Saturday…”
Of course, it wasn’t until Wu Jun had walked into his office in a coquettish manner with a pair of peach blossom eyes that sparkled with an ulterior motive, could Qian Heng finally conclude—
Having the left eye twitch definitely meant disaster.
He didn’t raise his head: “Not going, I don’t have time.”
Wu Jun’s reaction to Qian Heng refusal was quite calm. He smiled: “I know you are not interested in any unprofitable events but this time President Zhang of the Law Association asked you to participate. After all, we are still managed by them. Can’t you even give him this little face? Do you not want to be part of the top ten law firms in A City by the end of the year?”
Qian Heng, as expected raised his head. He frowned and coldly said: “That can’t happen.”
“Naturally, I love you so much that I can’t bear to have you exposed to the world. For all the things that can be blocked by me, haven’t I always blocked them?”
“What time on Saturday?”
“It’s Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm, the Law Association is providing lunch.” Wu Jun patted Qian Heng on the shoulder. “It saves you from ordering takeout at home on the weekend.”
Qian Heng thought of Cheng Yao’s delicious food and subconsciously replied. “Recently, I haven’t eaten takeout.”
“Ah? What?”
Qian Heng pursed his lips: “Nothing.” He looked up at Wu Jun. “So what kind of event is the Law Association arranging?”
Wu Jun scratched his head and unnaturally blabbed: “This Law Association event is just a gathering of many other young lawyers to discuss about the spirit young lawyers should have. You can just relax and focus on interacting with the other lawyers.”
Qian Heng wondered: “But why did President Zhang insist on having me participate in this kind of event?”
Wu Jun coughed: “Maybe President Zhang thinks that you have more charisma and status.” He looked away. “In addition, each firm needs one man and one woman. For Junheng law firm, President Zhang had asked for you but the female lawyer is still undecided. Who do you think is suitable?”
“You decide.”
“Among our female lawyers, Qian Hui and Li Meng are already married. Tian Sihe and Wang Yi have boyfriends, so only Cheng Yao and Tan Ying are left. However, I heard that Tan Ying just broke up with her boyfriend not too long ago, I’m afraid that she won’t be up for it so I think Cheng Yao will do.”
Qian Heng was puzzled: “It’s just a matter of participating in a character development of lawyers event, why do you need to be single?”
Wu Jun smiled: “You see, when women get married, they will have their own families. On the weekends they will have to take care of the children and accompany their husbands. If they have a boyfriend they will naturally have to go on dates with them. When they have just ended a relationship and are in a bad mood, we should obviously give them some space to calm down. Single people are the most free so it’s only right to let them participate.”
Qian Heng listened and felt a little strange but Wu Jun’s logic was pretty accurate. He nodded and expressed his approval of the arrangement.
“Then I’ll notify Cheng Yao.”
Qian Heng calmly said: “No need, I’ll do it.”
Wu Jun found it a little odd: “Don’t you usually dislike being an informant? Why are you so eager today?”
“It’s to prevent you from misleading the new people.”
“Haven’t you been hell bent on driving Cheng Yao away? Why are you afraid that I’ll do something now?”
“If you mislead her then even if she is fired later, it will affect the image of Junheng once she goes out.”
“…”

After Cheng Yao submitted Bai Xingmeng’s case to the court, as a lawyer, all that she could do at that time was to wait for the court to set a time for the trial.
Suddenly, Cheng Yao had become free with no work. Constantly being under Qian Heng’s various criticisms, she was a little uncomfortable now that she had nothing to do. Knowing that she had a poor foundation and little experience, she took the initiative to find a guiding case in the Supreme Court of Marriage to use as research and learning material.
That day was Friday and tomorrow would be the weekend. When she got off work, Cheng Yao felt very satisfied and happy. Over the weekend, she planned to relax and sleep at home.
That night, Qian Heng made an appointment with a customer and was not at home to eat. Cheng Yao happily went home to dine alone. Just when she was about to enjoy Friday night on her own, Qian Heng came back.
“Cheng Yao, at 9:00 am tomorrow morning, you will attend the character development event for young lawyers held by the Law Association on behalf of the firm.”
It was obviously a light “overtime” on Saturday but Qian Heng said it too confidently and righteously that Cheng Yao was stunned for a moment before reacting to fight back: “Why should I go?”
Just because I’m a newcomer? However, my character is very good, I don’t think there is any need to build it! Cheng Yao looked at Qian Heng while slandering him in her mind. She thought, it is you who should build a better character.
“I’m not bullying the newcomers.” Qian Heng glanced at Cheng Yao. “I’m going too.”
Cheng Yao was about to praise Qian Heng but then she heard him laugh and continue to say—
“I usually don’t bring female lawyers to Law Association events from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. You are very lucky.”
“What?” Cheng Yao was stunned. You tell me, what kind of luck is this? I can’t even escape from the boss’ claws on a Saturday? This is luck???
Qian Heng hummed with a smile: “I am taking you to an event, which is equivalent to declaring that you are a lawyer in my team. This is to endorse your future job change. Do you know that the lawyers who have been in my team are more popular than others?”
What’s so prideful about this! Qian Heng, you should reflect on why the lawyers you have trained yourself are all constantly being poached by others or had changed jobs themselves!
Cheng Yao endured it but she still couldn’t hold back. She tactfully asked. “Then aren’t you sad that so many lawyers who you brought up in the past changed jobs? Besides, isn’t this the same as training talents for your own competitors?”
“What contract did you sign when you entered Junheng?”
“A labour contract.”
Qian Heng took a look at Cheng Yao as if she couldn’t be taught: “We just had employee-employer relations and interacted using business behaviours. What feelings are you talking about? As for competitors, they need to be capable enough if they really wish to take from me.” After saying that, he glanced at Cheng Yao again. “For example, if you were poached by someone else, it’s not called digging a foot in the wall but picking it up.1”
“…”
Forget it, hide your strengths and bide your time. Cheng Yao comforted herself. Before you become strong, bear with it Cheng Yao. When you become prosperous, if Qian Heng even dared to look at you again then it’ll be a crime!

The Law Association event began at 9:00 am so Cheng Yao’s plan to sleep in on Saturday was ruined but fortunately, she could ride Qian Heng’s car. The two of them wore professional suits and went all the way to the Law Association.
However, when they arrived at the meeting venue, Cheng Yao felt that something was wrong…
