Shit always hits the fan at the worst possible time.

Bai Zhi followed Xiang Chen out of the maze. They stepped out under the sun.

The yellowing walls and iron gate closed behind Li Xiao with a rattling groan.

At this moment, a figure emerged from the shadows of the building, holding a metal bar, and attacked Li Xiao.

It was Zheng Ze.

Li Xiao snorted derisively. He blocked Zheng Ze’s all-out-attack with his bare arm. The dark blue veins in his face popped angrily. Twisting his arm, he grabbed the metal bar while also trying to land a heavy blow to his assailant’s face. Zheng Ze’s head snapped to the side. There was a crunch of bones breaking followed by a miserable grunt.

“B-Behind…!” Bai Zhi exclaimed as two more figures emerged from the shadows.

It was Xiao Yang and another tall man. The two cooperated tacitly—each held a metal bar and continuously aimed at Li Xiao’s injuries.

Li Xiao was outnumbered three to one. Teeth clenched, eyes protruding, he defended against the onslaught with difficulty. Soon, blood began seeping through his bandages.

Bai Zhi watched on worriedly. They were concentrating all of their attacks on Li Xiao, the strongest person of their small three-man team. If this continued, within minutes, Li Xiao will be defeated…

Xiang Chen grabbed Bai Zhi’s hand. He turned and ran, pulling Bai Zhi with him. Before they got far, a fourth figure stepped in front of them.

Gu Ze wore a thin shirt with the top two buttons undone. He sauntered out and stood casually before them.

Grinning, he bared a row of white teeth. He looked at Bai Zhi and said, “Sorry, but I can’t let you guys get away this time.”

“Run,” Xiang Chen whispered, blocking in front of Bai Zhi. It didn’t take long for him to be subdued and tied up by Gu Ze. Although Gu Ze wasn’t very adept at fighting, he was more than enough to deal with Xiang Chen.

Bai Zhi looked back and discovered that Li Xiao had also been taken down by the trio. Her heart sank.

He was held against the ground while Zheng Ze kicked his head. His head jerked back from the blow, and blood trickled out of the corner of his mouth. Li Xiao craned his head back to look straight up at Zheng Ze; his eyes were full of murderous intent.

Xiang Chen didn’t struggle needlessly. He just stared anxiously in Bai Zhi’s direction.

“It’s been a long time, Bai Zhi,” Gu Ze walked towards her with a smile on his face.

Panicked, Bai Zhi fumbled the gun out from under her uniform. She loaded the gun clumsily, then pointed the barrel at Gu Ze.

“S-Stop! Don’t come over!”

For a split second, Gu Ze looked surprised. He paused in his tracks and raised his hands in surrender, however the mocking smile on his lips said otherwise.

“Okay, okay, okay. I won’t go near you, baby, but you have to be careful not to hurt yourself…”

“Shut up…” Even now, he still provoked her. Bai Zhi bit her lip and pointed her gun at Zheng Ze, “You… Let go to Li Xiao… Now.”

Zheng Ze frowned. He raised his hands but looked at Gu Ze as if telling him to attack Bai Zhi from the side.

“N-No one move! I’ll really shoot!” Bai Zhi tightened her grip on the gun. Her lips pressed into a firm line. She stared directly at Zheng Ze but still paid attention to the movements of the other people. She looked very calm, as though she could pull the trigger at any moment. No one knew of the cold sweat that was dripping down her back.

“Bitch… Calm down, don’t set it off by accident…” Zheng Ze stared back at her, gritting his teeth. Slowly, he crouched down to untie Li Xiao’s bindings.

“She won’t shoot.” Xiao Yang said.

Bai Zhi’s hand trembled violently.

With this opening, Zheng Ze suddenly lunged forth towards Bai Zhi.

She had a hard time reacting to this sudden change. Aiming the gun at Zheng Ze’s thigh, she squeezed her finger. But, because she had no skill or training in this area, the bullet missed and hit the ground.

Zheng Ze looked smug, but he didn’t slow down.

Frantic, she squeezed the trigger again. This time the bullet grazed the outside of Zheng Ze’s thigh.

“Fuck!” He exclaimed in pain, but he was already in front of her. He tackled her to the ground and snatched the gun from her hand.

“Fuck you, bitch!” He slapped her with the butt of the gun. Holding her down, he jammed the black metal muzzle into her mouth.

Bai Zhi felt the searing pain of her jaw being forced wide open. She watched, in horror, as Zheng Ze put his index finger on the trigger, ready to pull. She closed her eyes in despair.

“Okay, that’s enough.”

Gu Ze’s voice was low. He grabbed Zheng Ze’s wrist and slowly moved his arm away.

“Just because you already have Xiao Yang, doesn’t mean you can forget about your brother’s happiness. We agreed not to kill her.” (TL: Comrade brothers, not blood-related brothers)

“I have nothing to do with him.” Xiao Yang spurned the idea and rolled his eyes disdainfully.

The tall—at least 1.9 meter (6’2″)—unfamiliar man standing next to him stretched his hand out and stroked Xiao Yang’s hair soothingly.

Xiao Yang frowned and shook off the man’s hand. He glared at the man, but the man didn’t seem to care.

Bai Zhi was still pressed against the ground beneath Zheng Ze. Her eyes were tightly shut, and her body trembled uncontrollably.

She had almost died just now.

She felt a pair of rough hands gently caressing the wound on her cheek. The hand slowly drifted down. Twine bound her wrists together and then wrapped several times around her body until she could was unable to move.

“This bitch shot me, and she’s Zhao Zixun’s whore. I want to break one of her legs,” the long-haired man spat viciously.

Gu Ze took the gun from his hand and put it away. His demeanor seemed open and light, but his tone was firm, “Don’t touch her. She’s mine. You can have Xiang Chen and… Li Xiao. Do whatever you want with them.”

The two had their hands and feet tied and thrown together. Xiang Chen stared at Zheng Ze with a glum expression, while Li Xiao waggled his eyebrows at him.

“Figure it out fast, it’s hot,” Xiao Yang said coldly.

The tall man next to him spoke up in a deep and gentle voice, “Let’s take everyone away first. Zheng Ze, go take care of your wound first. We can talk about distribution later.
