The cool night air slipped in through the open door.
Zhao Zixun knelt in front of Li Xiao and untied his rope.
Li Xiao cracked his neck from side and side and rolled his wrists around. Flashing a wicked grin, he raised his fist, then launched himself at Zhao Zixun with lightning speed.
Zhao Zixun responded quickly, without even batting an eye. He shifted to the side, avoiding the punch by a hair’s breadth.
Bai Zhi, on the other hand, was stunned at how the two men were suddenly fighting. Though, it’s more accurate to say that it was Li Xiao one-sidedly attacking Zhao Zixun. The muscles from his chest down to his abs tightened into a long, lean line. Blades of wind cut through the air with each powerful fist. Was this really the power of an injured man?
Zhao Zixun didn’t fight back—he just dodged Li Xiao’s attacks one after another.
Fresh blood began to seep out onto Li Xiao’s bandage, but his excitement only grew. There was a fire in his eyes, and blue veins crawled up his hallow, pallid cheeks.
“D-don’t fight…” Bai Zhi called anxiously. She wanted to rush in to stop them, and she did. She grabbed Li Xiao’s waist from behind and held on.
Li Xiao stopped abruptly, narrowly avoiding dragging her into the foray.
“Ah-Zhi, stay away from that psycho.” Zhao Zixun said with narrowed eyes.
Bai Zhi thought that she could restrict Li Xiao’s movements with a simple embrace. Little did she know that even if she used all her strength, he could easily throw her off with a simple flick.
“Li Xiao, stop fighting… Why are you doing this?” Bai Zhi tightened her grip and asked in a demanding tone.
She could feel the ripples of his abdomen. They were so flat and hard; it was as if she were hugging a giant rock. Except the rock was hot to the touch and oozing warm blood.
The fire in Li Xiao’s eyes gradually burned out. He looked down at the pale, unsoiled arms wrapped around his waist. Rough, bloodstained hands reached out to caress them. The hands roamed suggestively, pinching and stroking every which way.
His touch raised goosebumps along her arms. She struggled to break free, but he grabbed her and pulled her in front of him. Their gazes met, and they stared into each other’s eyes.
Zhao Zixun frowned; he looked miffed. “Let her go,” he bit out.
Li Xiao smiled wickedly. There was a strange gleam in his eyes. Grabbing Bai Zhi’s little butt, he ground his crotch against her mound. He forced her legs to open and circle his thin waist. His cock was hard and rearing to go. Just then, he bucked his hips up against her pussy, as if he was about to pierce through their clothes and ram his way into her.
“Ah! Let me go…” Bai Zhi felt a sharp pain. Her legs clamped around his waist tighter, and she struggled to hold in her tears. She cried for Zhao Zixun for help.
Li Xiao snorted coldly. He bucked into her again, making her scream. She pushed against his chest, but couldn’t push him away.
Bai Zhi could only helplessly watch as he buried his face into the crook of her neck. He licked her skin manically as if tasting the sweetest steak.
She was terrified that he would bite through her skin and make her bleed like last time… He was more like a beast than a human sometimes. She was terrified that he might go berserk one day and tear her to pieces. He’d devour her whole, leaving nothing behind.
“Put her down. We haven’t settled our score yet.” Zhao Zixun walked over and pulled them apart.
Bai Zhi could feel the cold night breeze acutely against the saliva on her skin. As soon as her feet landed back on solid ground, she darted behind Zhao Zixun.
“There is nothing between us,” Li Xiao grumbled. His gaze was filled with fiery lust; they locked on her body and roamed freely as if he was undressing her with his eyes.
“Why did you come back?” Zhao Zixun asked in a low voice.
Li Xiao licked his crimson lips. He kept his eyes locked on Bai Zhi, saying pointedly, “ Life in prison is… not bad.”
Bai Zhi’s face flushed and paled like a Christmas light. She clung to Zhao Zixun.
“What did that guy tell you?” Zhao Zixun gave up trying to get a normal answer out of him.
“Can’t remember,” Li Xiao said, “He talks too much.”
“Trash.” Zhao Zixun sneered.
Li Xiao’s eyes suddenly turned cold, “I can carry the black pot for you, but never call me a piece of trash.”
(“Carry the black pot” means to take the blame for someone else’s crime. See c46)
“Who’s Li Zhan?” Bai Zhi asked.
Li Xiao’s body suddenly tensed and dark, blue veins once again crawled up his jaw. He gritted his teeth and managed to hiss out a few words, “He’s my… relative.”
The matter was brushed aside quickly, and they moved onto the next topic.
“Zhao Zixun, what’s your rule?” Bai Zi asked.
“Find the traitors.” Zhao Zixun stroked her hair. “Actually, two of the traitors are already dead. If I catch the last one, I can win the game. But it’s not the right time yet. The secrets of this place are still buried. I intend to unearth them and flip this place upside down.”
Bai Zhi shook her head, “Li Xiao said that there are armed forces surrounding the entire prison and that there is even a special, designated transportation system connecting the prison with the city. How can you alone—”
“It’s okay,” Zhao Zixun interrupted her. He smiled reassuringly and gently placed his warm lips on her forehead. “Believe me, I can do it.”
“But…” Bai Zhi thought long and hard about how to persuade him into cooperating. “Xiang Chen has the blueprints. He can—”
“Why do you trust that kid so much?” Zhao Zixun asked. “Did you know the kind of people he used to run with? The forces they were associated with? They’ve done all sorts of terrible things—maybe they even built the prison.”
Bai Zhi was stunned to silence. She hadn’t thought of that possibility. She had always considered him to be harmless. He didn’t look like he had any evil thoughts or would do bad things.
“Xiang Chen really wants to leave the prison,” Li Xiao rasped.
Bai Zhi nodded, “He told me that there are seven secret doors that lead out of here. We have already investigated one of them. It was a dead-end…… I think… that in addition to leading outside, some of them may lead underground to whatever they trying to keep under wraps.
The prison was built on flat, open terrain. Beyond the barbed wire was desert and infinite blue skies. If there really was any shady business going on in here, it could only be hidden underground.
“Seven secret doors? Underground?” Zhao Zixun contemplated carefully; his eyes drifted somewhere off into the distance.
Bai Zhi continued, “I-I’m still a guard right now. I can waive the curfew for you. We can find out what is behind each door. What do you think?”
