He was carried to the village while he was unconscious. That’s why I don’t know where I am now. I decided to go back to the place where I fought the hobgoblin.
I followed the trail to the site of the battle. I could see the ground was strewn and bloodied. This was the place where I had fought the hobgoblin.
I can find my way to the base from here. I whipped my injured body into shape and managed to make it back to the base. It was a wooden cave, the kind of place I like.
I wanted to lie down right away, but I needed to fumigate the base.
I built a fire and burned the insect repellent wood that I always use. The cave of the tree was fumigated to repel insects. You can’t put mud on the wound to keep it hygienic. It would be best if you were very careful to keep the bugs away.
Instead of a bed, make a homemade bed of large leaves on a framework of cushioned tree branches. This bed should be fumigated thoroughly.
The bed needs to be especially protected from insects. During my time in the wild, I’ve tested which trees insects dislike the most. I use the most effective wood. The smell is a bit strong, but I can’t afford to lose it.
To make the smokeless conspicuous, I have prepared several layers of simple filters made of branches and leaves on the tree where I live. The smoke will be less noticeable as it passes through here, making it harder to spot outside.
I combined the contents of a survival book I read a long time ago, the method used by the main character in Gogo 13, and evolved it in my way. I make a base, explore the surroundings, and if I find a new base candidate, I move on and make a new base.
That’s how I’ve been moving around so carefully. I’m good at building bases. Every time I make one, it gets a little more sophisticated.
There was no suitable place for a base, so I tied myself up with ivy and slept on a tree. There were many such situations. I would not have been able to endure such a situation if I did not have a strong body strengthened by leveling up.
I bit into the spicy dried meat I had left at the base and waited for the smoke to dissipate.
The canteen I had made from the giant deer’s bladder was gone, so it was inconvenient to replenish my water supply. It would have been easier if bamboo had grown. I tied a wooden board to a rope made of ivy and set up a squeaker.
After blocking the entrance with rocks and disguising the door with trees and fallen leaves, I was finally able to catch my breath. I collapsed onto the bed and lay down. The village is a reasonable distance away.
If they wanted to kill me, they would have to search through the dangerous goblin-infested forest to find this base, far from the village. The chances of that happening are slim.
I decided to close my eyes and let my wounds heal. I fell asleep with a dark rage in my stomach against the villagers who had tried to kill me.
When I woke up, I did some flexibility exercises and checked my injuries. The wound from the hobgoblin bite seemed to be recovering nicely without festering. I’m going to name this delicate leaf a medicinal herb for my damages.
While nibbling on dried meat, we collected fruits, hot peppers, and medicinal herbs as we searched for signs of animals. The mud doesn’t mask the smell, so we have to search from downwind, which is inefficient.
We couldn’t find any traces of animals, so we decided to give up for the day. I decided to make another necessity. Yes, it was a waistcoat. Even though we were living in the wild, it was still hard to wear it.
It’s so annoying when you’re dangling, and your big boy is flicking against your thighs! Oh, I’m lying. He’s small. I’m not a big boy. I’m a little kid, duh.
Even if he is a little kid, it’s embarrassing for a civilized person to be exposed. To live a civilized life, I decided to start making a waistcoat.
The first thing I need to do is to secure materials, so I look for fibrous wood. With the strengthening of my body through leveling up, I can easily break thin wood. It doesn’t matter if you’re injured.
“Eishaoraa!”
With a kick, I break-a fibrous tree, which I refer to as a koshimino tree. I tore off a small piece of the bark that was slightly stuck to the tree and carried it to my base.
The bark is peeled back, and the inner bark is removed from the rough outer bark. The crotch is delicate, so the soft inner bark is used for direct contact.
The outer bark and inner bark are fumigated to protect them from insects. When I made a waistcoat for the first time, I forgot to do this, and my crotch got into a lot of trouble. I won’t make that mistake again.
Tear the inner skin into a strip and wrap it around the waist. Tie a knot to allow for some size adjustment. Around this waist, tie the inner skin over the belt-like inner skin so that it is caught.
After covering the entire area with the inner skin, the sturdy outer skin is inserted between the inner skin and tied. After covering the whole room with the outer skin, it was complete.
Today, however, I was different. If this world doesn’t let me live a civilized life, I’ll live a civilized life on my own.
I prepare two long, thin strips of the inner skin. Wrap the two pieces around each other counterclockwise, twisting them clockwise with your fingers.
In this way, the two strands’ force is trying to return to each other meshes and makes it difficult to unravel. Make several strings using this technique.
I weave the strings together to make a pattern. I can’t make complicated patterns, but I incorporate them in designs of flowers I saw in the forest that I thought was beautiful.
Although it was a little awkward, I was able to create a braided pattern representing a flower. I tied it to my waistcoat, Koshimino. How civilized of me to care so much about fashion.
I am no longer a wildling.
Until my injuries heal, I can’t do any heavy hunting or level up by killing goblins. Take it easy on yourself and heal your wounds while consuming dried meat and dried fruits.
