Their marriage was a choice of mutual benefits for both of their families. Although the two people weren’t too satisfied, they knew from the very beginning they wouldn’t have a say in their marriages. After all, they were born in a family where their wealth came from their parents, and it wouldn’t be fair if they used the family’s fortune without contributing something back.

Therefore, Ji Mingshu and Cen Sen cooperated in this marriage, reaching the consensus of showing off their ‘love’ in public.

“You came back from Australia, attended the banquet with Su Cheng and bid her necklace in the auction… and all without informing me! Who are you trying to shame? Are you trying to tell the world that we’re strangers?!”

Ji Mingshu’s voice escalated a pitch after every word, as if she wanted to use her loud voice to make up for the difference in height.

Cen Sen rubbed his nose and explained plainly, “I had lunch with Executive Pei, who asked me to do him a favor. Su Cheng is already 40+ years old; I don’t think anyone would think that I’m shaming you for accompanying her. Besides, I didn’t know that you were also attending that banquet.”

Ji Mingshu summarized his point — Hey, who knew you were going to be there? I didn’t have my attention on you; who are you to me?

This is probably what Ji Mingshu hated the most about Cen Sen. He never cared about anything or anyone; he was always rational, calm, and cold.

Since she was always the center of attention wherever she went, she couldn’t endure his coldness and nonchalance towards her.

Their conversation concluded without a result. While taking a shower, Ji Mingshu closed her eyes in thought, “If she could end this widowed-like wedding, she’d rather not have sex for five years.

She finally came out of the shower after 2 hours.

For an exquisite girl like her, she never forgot to do her skincare process thrice a day, once in the morning, afternoon, and at night.

Before Cen Sen left for Australia, he lived with her for some time, so he knew her routines. She’s the extreme kind of girl who cares if she puts on her makeup before she faints, pretty but shallow.

Ji Mingshu changed into her silky mist blue stringed nightdress, with arms and legs fully revealed. Her body proportions were perfect, skinny, but not bony.

Her long black curls became soft and fluffy after her hair was dried. It was loose and swayed with her dress as she walked forward barefoot. With the fog in the bathroom lingering on her, she appeared innocent yet charming.

Perhaps because the scenery was too pleasing, Cen Sen glanced at her repeatedly from the corner of his eyes.

” What are you looking at?”

Cen Sen only chuckled softly without saying anything.

Not understanding what she was cautioning, Ji Mingshu stared at him as she lifted her legs into the bed one at a time. Seeing he hadn’t taken any actions, she pulled away the soft blanket and laid down, before wrapping herself entirely with only her pretty and cute head peeking out.

“Close the light; I’m going to sleep.”

Cen Sen silently closed the floor lamp.

The two of them breathed one after the other in the dark, quiet yet uniform.

After two years of sleeping alone, Ji Mingshu felt a bit uncomfortable sleeping with someone else. She squirmed in the bed.

On the other hand, Cen Sen was still, having never moved since he laid down.

The air had a light wooden scent, the smell of fir from this cloudy weather.

It was when Ji Mingshu was half-conscious, almost asleep, that she suddenly felt an incoming invasion. Cen Sen was already on top of her when she opened her eyes.

With only the dim light of the night, she could vaguely see Cen Sen’s lower jawline. In his dark and calm eyes, she could sense his turbulent emotions, with his Adam’s apple rolling.

Ji Mingshu’s reaction was a bit slow; she only felt something after her strap slipped from her shoulder.

The moonlight’s reflection outside the window rippled in the water, with the unpleasant events from before left on the waterside.
