“Big sister… big sister,” murmured the child in the midst of a high fever, “don’t leave me!”

“I’m here,” Ruyi hugged the child in her arms, softly, “I won’t leave you behind.”

“It hurts… a lot.” Sumo gulped down the medicine, mumbled softly in the back of his throat and grabbed onto Ruyi’s lapel, refusing to let go, “Sister… hurts…”

Ruyi sighed, picked up the child and resumed her march up the path.

The couple walked quickly, bent on getting through this ominous dense forest as soon as possible. The journey was very quiet, and the Maiden Loh under the leaves seemed to have suddenly all vanished without reappearing.

“It should be another mile down the road.” Jian Lin spoke as he assessed the distance. Before the words left his mouth, however, he suddenly felt something in the traveling bag on his back move visibly, as if struggling, and faintly emitting a sound like a wailing weep.

However, in that very moment, there was a flash in front of his eyes and the entire forest suddenly turned ghastly white!

Countless arms, innumerable pairs of feet, stretched out from the rotting soil, through the branches of the trees, from the streams of the water, as thickly as an endless stream of silvery-white vines, coming from all directions! –The Nightmare Forest’s maidens had all appeared and gathered together in an instant to pounce on the two of them!

“Run!” Out of breath, Jian Lin shouted in alarm, pulling Ruyi by the hand as he darted forward with a tap of his feet. “Stop them… stop them!” The maiden Loh were hissing in succession, conveying the message from one another, “They have a child in their hands… that’s the child!”

How did those things suddenly gathered all here? And also, why were they aware that they had a child with them? Could it be that someone tipped them off? Was there a traitor in the Restoration Army?

Jian Lin was shocked in his heart, but his hands were not slow at all, his longsword was like lightning across the sky, swishing and cutting out a bloody path. The maiden Loh’s combat prowess was not very high, yet there were so many of them. The cold limbs were like jellyfish at the bottom of the sea, one was cut off then another reached out, apparently without feeling any pain at all, and the sharp nails glinted with a poisonous light as they clawed at them in the face.

“Quick!” Jian Lin whistled, “Get out of the woods!”

With one hand holding Sumo and the other drawing her short blade, Ruyi charged forward after him.

The woods were almost at their end, she could even see the setting sun coming in from beyond the trees, just a few dozen feet further away was the Abyss of Cangwu, their final destination – but now it was all but a snowy mass of maidens in front of them, an endless net that stopped them in their tracks.

Somehow, those Loh girls had swarmed around to snatch that child!

They must not let Sumo fall into their hands! Ruyi fought recklessly, cutting off the arms and legs that were reaching out to her, the blood of those dead kinsmen splattering in her face, fetid but cold and horrifying.

The child in her arms seemed to be woken by the fierce action and opened his turquoise eyes, looking at all this with confused weakness, not understanding where he was.

“Don’t be afraid,” she soothed while fighting in a bloody battle, ” everything will be fine.”

“Ruyi!” However, she was only distracted for a moment when she heard Jian Lin’s alarming shout ringing in her ears, “Watch out!”

As soon as Ruyi looked up, she saw a silver-haired Maiden Loh hanging soundlessly from a tree, her hands extending to over a foot, transforming into two pointed spikes and stabbing towards her with a swish! “No!” She cried out in frustration, and only had time to raise her arms and shield the child she was carrying with a deadly grip.

Her arms were instantly pierced and blood sprang into the air. However, when the woman pierced her arms, she failed to catch Sumo from her embrace and jerked her hand back in anger. She staggered forward, almost falling, but refused to let go despite the pain.

“Give it to me!” The silver-haired maiden snapped, attacking again.

There was a flash of bright light, and the sound of metal clashing resounded as Jian Lin hurled the sword in his hand and struck the silver-haired maiden Loh, forcing her back.

“Quick!” Jian Lin pulled her by the hand, ” Let’s run!”

Ruyi cradled the child in her bleeding arms and together they raced wildly towards the outskirts of the Nightmare Forest. The rustling sounds behind them overwhelmed the entire forest, and countless rogues were bursting out from the ground in pursuit – it was very odd. Although they were reduced to demons, they never attacked the sharks, a clan that belonged to the Sea Kingdom, so why were they suddenly out of their minds today?

By now they had reached the end of the forest and the sun was shining brightly ahead.

The maidens stopped in their tracks in the middle of the woods as if they were afraid of the sun.

Jian Lin managed to kill his way out and guided them to run out of the forest. However, when he reached the edge of the dense forest, he suddenly felt a chill in the back and his movements suddenly halted – something had stabbed him in the back of the neck, and in that instant, he felt nothing but stiffness and numbness, and his entire body was drained of its strength.

What? Was it the Maiden Loh who finally stabbed him from behind?

“Jian Lin! Behind you!” Ruyi exclaimed in dismay.

The traveling bag on his back cracked open and something tiny crawled out and silently stuck to the back of his neck – it wasn’t a female Loh. Instead, it was the bizarre fleshly creature that had been severed from Sumo’s belly and which had actually broken free from its silver needle seal, crawling behind his back and biting into his neck!

Ruyi recklessly snatched up the fleshy lump and pointed her short sword at it, trying hard to cut it away from Jian Lin’s body. However, the little mass of flesh was so agile that when it saw her coming forward, it instantly retracted back into its travel bag. The moment it turned around, it emitted a shrill whistle. At that sound, as if they were hearing an order, all the female rogues in the forest stormed forward, no longer fearing the daylight!

Ruyi could only look at it in awe: what the hell is this succubus? How could it command those female rogues?

However, she no longer had time to think about this, all she could see was a ghastly blanket of white – countless arms reaching towards her, their sharp green and purple nails like blades, glowing with a demonic light.

It was over… they failed to fulfill the elders’ mandate after all!

In the last moment, she subconsciously bent down and shielded the child in her arms, closing her eyes and waiting for the moment when a million fingers would pierce her heart.

However, absolutely nothing happened. The silence around her was suddenly as deep as death.

Ruyi hesitated for a moment and opened her eyes in dismay, suddenly discovering that all those female rogues coming from all over the world had stopped, frightened by an unseen force, and that those sharp fingers, which were already less than a foot away from her, had stopped in place, as if they had been instantly frosted.

Their eyes, in a single gaze, were staring in terror at the child in her arms. Sumo in her embrace opened his eyes and gazed at the demonic ghosts that littered the ground, the child’s eyes were of a bright blue, reflecting the daylight like glazed brilliance. Sumo stared at the bizarre situation in front of him, shook his head weakly and murmured, “What are all you… things? Just… get lost.”

At the sound of that tiny voice, those sharp nails actually quivered, and all the Maiden Lohs took a step backwards!

“That child… that child!” The female rogues looked at the little shark in Ruyi’s arms and whispered, appearing to be in awe over something, “He has the same kind of power as the ‘Emperor’ in his voice!”

“No! If this child is the ‘Emperor’, then who was it that just summoned us?”

“Impossible… Are there two ’emperors’?”

What? These things, do they obey Sumo’s orders? Hearing these whispers, Ruyi could not help but be taken aback and lowered her head to look at the child in her arms.

Sumo was in a state of great weakness, his eyes were not fully awake, his lips were pale and thin – yet with just two short words, he seemingly exhaled a great irresistible power that made all the demons and ghosts throughout the land flinch!

Taking advantage of this momentary break, Jian Lin have pulled Ruyi and turned around to run frantically.

The two of them ran for more than a hundred feet, crossed the boundary monolith and finally reached the side of the Abyss of Cangwu. The Abyss was like a straight line, dark and bottomless, leading to another world beneath the earth.

Inside the abyss the mist was so thick that you could not see your fingers, and there was only a vague bit of scorching red, like the blazing fires of hell.
