Jian Lin took a precious artifact out of his bosom and fell to his knees next to the Rift Abyss, exclaiming, “Dragon God! I am your subject… please accept this offering!”

As soon as the words were spoken, he hurled the precious item in his hand at the mist-filled chasm – it was the jade ring given to him by Elder Quan, with the ancient dragon blood sealed inside; the ring plunged straight down into the abyss with a swish. Not long after it fell, as if receiving a heavy blow through the void, it shattered into pieces, releasing the sealed blood within.

The drop of blood of that ancient dragon god gushed out from the seal and dripped down into the shimmering clouds.

As if a drop of blood made the entire ocean boil, in that moment, under the darkness of the Rift Abyss, the wind suddenly rose up and blasted out a storm that made it impossible for anyone to open their eyes – with a loud bang, a golden lightning bolt pierced through the waters of the Yellow Spring and instantly went straight up to the sky, shining through the Nightmare Forest!

“The Dragon God!… is the Dragon God!” Beneath the blaze of lightning, all the Maiden Lohs released a shout of fear and confusion, and instantly all shrank back into the dense forest, not daring to expose themselves to that dazzling golden light.

The entire Abyss of Cangwu was instantly turned upside down as the storm clouds emerged from the raging dragon. A huge shadow soared up from the ground, followed by lightning and thunder, and ascended straight to the sky!

“Who? Who was it…” from the lightning bolt, a majestic, low voice echoed, “to awaken me with my very own blood?”

“It is your descendant.” Jian Lin prostrated himself, “I have been ordered to come and worship.”

Ruyi lifted her face to look up at the God of the Sea in the lightning storm and could no longer hold back her cry of amazement. She subconsciously let go of her grip and attempted to join her palms in adoration. However, just as she let go of her hand, a powerful force sucked in and the child in her arms suddenly floated away!

“Sumo!” She exclaimed, trying to grab him in a desperate attempt.

Startled, Jian Lin reached out recklessly, risking to fall down into the abyss in order to catch Sumo. However, in the next instant, the depths were once again illuminated by lightning, and Sumo suddenly stopped in his fall, as if a hand was holding him back, allowing him to rise again, out of the bottomless abyss of Cangwu.

Cradling him was the giant golden dragon.

The Dragon God emerged from the Abyss of Cangwu, snatched the child from Ruyi’s arms and coiled him in a sea of clouds, lowering his head to gaze intently at the little creature in his arms, as tiny as a mustard seed.

“This… little one…” the Dragon God looked at the child, struggling to pronounce words as he wasn’t speaking for what seemed like a long time, “could he be the… um?”

A bit dizzy after several ups and downs, Sumo weakly opened his eyes and stared at the dragon in mid-air, without the slightest fear in his pupils. The Dragon God bent his head down and gazed at the skinny child with eyes as huge as the sun wheel, apparently examining all of his past and future, and for a moment, finally exhaled a long sigh, “It really is you… after seven thousand years, this day has finally come!”

Before the words were out of his mouth, the Dragon God suddenly flipped out its tail – amidst the gust of wind, the shirt on the child’s back ripped apart inch by inch, revealing a black mole on his skin.

“I have been sleeping for so many years in one part of your body but now it is time for me to awake.” The Dragon God whispered and blew a puff of breath upon Sumo: in that moment, the black mass on the back of the child suddenly blossomed and shone with a faint light. As if infused by something, the dark patch swirled instantly and transformed into the shape of a dragon, surprisingly identical to the Dragon God from the void!

“It hurts…” the child groaned, his tiny body curling up.

“Dear heavens…” Ruyi exclaimed in disbelief with a low gasp, tugging at Jian Lin’s sleeve next to her, “Did you… see that? The mole on Sumo’s back is not a mole! Instead, is…”

“The blood mark of the Dragon Lord!” Jian Lin blurted out, looking steadily into the sky – yes, this child carried the blood of the Ocean Emperor and had a token etched on his back that could resonate with the Dragon God! He was the legendary heir of the Dragon, the King of the Sea!

The two people stood at the edge of the Abyss, mesmerized for a moment.

With the child on his back, the Dragon God sailed up and down through the clouds, trying to break free into the sky – however, a golden chain was fastened to the reverse scales beneath its neck, with a myriad of lingering bolts of lightning attached to it, clamping down on its every movement, and no matter how much he struggled, he was unable to break free.

As the Dragon God continued to jump, the black mark on Sumo’s back also shifted violently, each motion matching that of the Dragon God, as if there was another dragon inside him, struggling to break through the barrier of this shell and fly out of the child’s body!

However, neither the dark shape inside the mark, nor the real Dragon could manage to break free.

“Why… why won’t you still allow me to leave?” The Dragon God gazed up to the Ninth Heaven and let out a muffled roar, as if he was conversing with someone, “The Ocean Emperor has returned… Three Goddesses, please return the power stored in the Nine Heavens above to the Sea Kingdom!”

However, the white clouds in the Ninth Heaven diverged from each other, and no response echoed.

The shadow of the Dragon Lord struggled inside Sumo’s frame, his tiny body twitching in agony. Finally, unable to bear it any longer, the thin child let out a loud cry and collapsed, two drops of crimson blood flowing from his eyes and the glow of the mark on his back instantly extinguished.

In the same instant, the Dragon God released a roar in mid-air and sank back into the Abyss! The storm clouds disappeared in a flash, and a lifeless silence surrounded them.

“How… what happened?” Ruyi froze, staring at the Abyss of Cangwu, which was suddenly silent again, her voice trembling slightly, “What just… happened?”

Jian Lin’s face was also pale, and only after a long time he whispered, “The Dragon God has failed.”

“What do you mean?” Ruyi blurted out.

“Just now, the Dragon God tried to break free from the confinement set by the Xingzun Emperor seven thousand years ago and to jump out of the place where he had been trapped for thousands of years… but, in doing so, he was defeated.” Jian Lin stood beside the Abyss, looking at the rolling waters of the Yellow Spring below, his voice trembling, “He couldn’t break through that restriction and became exhausted – eventually he sank back into the Abyss of Cangwu!”

“Why?!” Ruyi’s face instantly turned ashen, “What about… Sumo?”

Jian Lin shook his head, looked at the bottomless chasm and whispered, “Probably sank together with the Dragon God.”

At the bottom of the Cangwu Abyss lies the waters of the Yellow Spring. No living creature can survive in them, so this little child has probably already lost his soul and become a mere corpse. No wonder Elder Quan said that after meeting the Dragon God, it would depend on the child’s fate whether he would survive or not – it seems that the child has failed this harsh round of trial after all.

Ruyi trembled violently and rushed to the edge of the Abyss, screaming out of breath, “Sumo… Sumo!”

However, the tumbling waters of the Yellow Spring and the smell of death permeated the depths, showing not the slightest sign of a living person.

“Sumo… Sumo.” Ruyi fell to her knees in dismay, tears rolling down one by one, turning into pearls all over the ground. It was already dark above the Abyss of Cangwu, the stars were shining brightly overhead, and the only sounds in her ears were the evil whispers of the Maiden Loh in the Nightmare Forest and the sound of the roaring, gushing waters of the Yellow Spring. Suddenly, something on the ground twitched.

It was Jian Lin’s traveling bag, which in the struggle earlier had been thrown to the ground and its content scattered in all directions – there was something squirming inside, and it was none other than the bizarre fleshy creature.

Apparently having witnessed the scene that had just occurred, the fleshy figure revealed a peculiar sneering expression on its face.

“What are you laughing at?” At the sight of that creepy expression, Ruyi suddenly felt a pang of inexplicable anger, and grabbed that succubus and was about to throw it down into the Abyss of Cangwu! A sharp wailing escaped from within that tiny bundle of flesh, which sounded eerily like a horrific squeal. However, as soon as Ruyi raised her hand ready to throw it down, she was suddenly confronted with a pair of huge sun wheels rising from the ground of the Abyss of Cangwu. How… could there be two suns rising at the same time? Ruyi was dazzled, when she heard Jian Lin exclaim in disbelief from the side, “The Dragon God?”

The Sea Kingdom’s Lord Ruler surprisingly surfaced from the Abyss once again in that moment, straining to push his head out of the Abyss of Cangwu, gasping for breath, his entire body stained with the blood from his golden scales. This time they could clearly see an enormous chain of golden light wrapped around the Dragon God’s body, strangling its neck to death, cutting into its body and pulling him down towards the unfathomable depths of the Cangwu Abyss.
