It had been set up by the Xingzun Emperor seven thousand years ago to trap the God of the sharks after the destruction of the Sea Kingdom.
Yet even though he was so tired, the Dragon God struggled to climb up from the Abyss of Cangwu for a second time, gripping the edge of the pit with his claws. On the Dragon God’s forehead was lying the unconscious child: small and huddled, pale as a sheet of paper, but still breathing faintly.
“Sumo!” In that moment, Ruyi exclaimed out of breath in surprise, “Sumo!”
The Dragon God lifted his huge claws, shook his head, laboriously scooped Sumo off of his body and carefully placed him on the ground, looking at him with apprehension before suddenly bending his neck down and gobbling up the child in one gulp!
Jian Lin and Ruyi exclaimed in shock as they both stepped forward to try and stop him, but instead they found that the Dragon God was simply holding the unconscious child in his mouth with no intention of harming him – as he breathed, a strange light bloomed out between the dragon’s teeth and began to imbue into the child’s tiny body little by little.
The Dragon God inhaled a total of three times before he pulled back the radiance, stretched his neck and spat out Sumo. The unconscious child rolled down onto the grass at the edge of the abyss, motionless. Ruyi swooped over and cradled Sumo in her arms, falling to her knees in front of the divine being.
“This little one, he is too weak… I have shed a little of my powers upon him.” The Dragon God’s voice was muffled and slow, very strained, as he turned towards the two of them, “I understand the Elders’ intentions in having you bringing him here – and yes, this child is indeed the one that you were waiting for. Unfortunately… the time is not yet ripe.”
The Dragon God was speaking to them? In that instant, both Jian Lin and Ruyi became too shocked to speak. The time had not yet come? What did this mean?
“The time has not yet arisen. Therefore, The Floating Sky City in the Ninth Heaven has not returned the power of the Ocean Emperor to the Sea Kingdom.” The Dragon God spoke in a very weak tone and glanced up at the heavens above the Chasm, “This child has not yet inherited the power of the Ocean Emperor, nor can he help me to split open the Golden Chains…”
Jian Lin and Ruyi failed to understand what the Dragon God meant by these words and their faces appeared confused.
“It is useless to try to explain this to any of you… You can all go back,” the Dragon God’s voice faded as the claws that were clinging onto the ground gradually became loose, “in seventy years time from now, when this child has experienced more and acquired a greater power, perhaps then… we can meet here once again.”
Seventy more years? Jian Lin and Ruyi were both stunned, not sure exactly what to say.
“In the course of such a long time, there will be many people who will want to take the life of this child, right? Including the Kongsang people, the Ice Clan… from the Western Sea and there’s also Him. What a worrying thought.” The Dragon God murmured in a low voice, as if remotely sensing everything that was going to happen coming from between the six corners of the earth, “It seems that there are people trying to find this child through the Return of Evil, just at this very moment… This is not good!”
The Dragon God tilted his head up, letting out a long whistle to the heavens as he inhaled sharply and poked out his claws! In that instant, millions of dazzling lightning bolts blossomed around his body, and the sky became so stormy that one was unable to see in front of his nose.
After the passing of the thunderclouds, in the astral sky, something appeared to have quietly changed.
The patch of Returning Evil that had risen above the Blue Sea has disappeared!
“I have temporarily erased this child from the star chart… Now, even the most powerful diviners in the mortal realm will no longer be able to trace this child’s whereabouts…” the Dragon God moved his claws and pushed the unconscious child over, his voice growing weaker and weaker, “That’s all I can do for now… All right. You guys take him back and protect him well.”
“Yes!” Jian Lin and Ruyi dared not disobey, and received their orders in unison.
It was at that very moment that the fleshly child that remained lying abandoned on the ground, stirred for a moment and appeared to want to follow them out of there.
“Huh? What is this little creature?” Although the object was as tiny as a mustard seed, it could not escape the eyes of the Dragon God, and as he glanced at it, his eyes suddenly wavered and he murmured, “This is a very evil being… the darkness after the light, the demon of the heart that cannot be shaken off in a lifetime.”
Before the words left his mouth, he lowered his head and spat out a blazing flame!
However, once the fiery flames were gone, the tiny fleshy mass was surprisingly unscathed.
“Strange… Even the Crimson Flame didn’t manage to vanquish this kind of ‘evil’?” The Dragon God whispered wearily, shook his body, and with a swish, countless golden lights descended, piercing every joint of the fleshy fetus and pinning it to the ground!
Each piece of the dragon’s scales stuck to the place where Doctor Shen Tu’s original silver needle used to sit, and embedded themselves into the bone joints of the fleshy fetus, like silver spikes and golden nails. In an instant, the fetus curled into a ball and let out a sharp cry of pain, a piercing and frightening shriek, but it still continued to squirm violently, without dying.
“Still really can’t be eliminated?” The Dragon God stared at the bizarre fleshy child, a little surprised and a little weary, “This is the ‘twin of Evil’… It looks like it will follow this child for the rest of his life.”
The Dragon God exhaled wearily, his claws tightening slightly.
In the same instant, the golden scales affixed to the bundle of flesh instantly glowed, simultaneously embedding themselves in each of the creature’s joints and fusing with the silver needles – the bizarre fetus emitted a childlike squeal, its body twisting and turning as if it was locked in invisible chains, gradually becoming motionless.
“I sealed it temporarily – hopefully these seventy years will be enough time for this child to become strong.” The Dragon God’s voice was low, and he looked down at the unconscious Sumo with a hint of pity in his eyes, “Alas… this poor child has to deal not only with his enemies, but also with such a terrible demon within himself… I do hope, I sincerely hope that he can lead you all back to the Blue Sea…”
At this point, the Dragon God’s voice trailed off, as if he could no longer hold on, and his claws slowly unclenched themselves from the Abyss of Cangwu. The heavy golden chains reached out from the depths and tightened silently, dragging the dragon inch by inch back to the bottom of the sunless abyss with a ghastly force and restraining him once again.
“Dragon God!” Unwilling to abandon him, Jian Lin and Ruyi both rushed to the edge of the chasm.
“My subjects… you have been waiting already for seven thousand years. Waiting for another seventy years is but a mere moment, is it not?” The Dragon God’s voice came out from the misty clouds at the bottom of the abyss, stirring, “All the suffering will soon come to an end. In seventy years, this fragile child will become the greatest Ocean Emperor of the Sea Kingdom in history, leading you to break free from your chains and thereby overthrow the Yunhuang!”
“Then you shall witness here, once again, the resurgence of the Sea Kingdom!”
The Dragon God disappeared into the abyss, however, his prophecy still echoed through the air like a rolling spring thunder.
Ruyi shuddered and bent down, hugging Sumo in her arms, tears rolling down one after another, condensing into pearls on the floor. Jian Lin stood beside her, gazing at the child, and his expression was also one of unconcealed emotion.
Such a young child, as thin as a stray cat, as vulnerable and helpless as a roadside animal, unable to keep his senses in check – how could he possibly be the Emperor of the Seven Seas?
However, Ruyi clutched the skinny child in her arms, glancing cautiously at the dense forest behind her, wary of the Female Loh from within rushing over again, and whispered, “We need to get this child back to the camp as soon as possible! If the Elders find out about this, they will…”
As she spoke, Sumo shuddered in her arms and gradually regained consciousness. Those turquoise eyes had the depth of the sea in them, causing people to remain somewhat dazzled just by looking at them. They were as deep as the sea.
“Sumo?” Ruyi whispered in surprise, “You’re awake? Great!”
Her hand pressed against the child’s forehead and found that after the Dragon God’s healing, the fever had indeed miraculously subsided from Sumo’s body, only his little face remained pale and his breath was still weak. However, when she tried to pick the child up, Sumo suddenly strained slightly, wriggling to break free from her embrace.
She was stunned for a moment, “What’s wrong?”
“No… don’t touch me.” The child’s eyes were hostile and his dry lips moved slightly as he murmured, “What place is this? Move away from me!”
