What should she do?
For a while, Pejin was lost in her thoughts.
In the book, the supporting female character relied on her well-to-do family status, causing her to have a spoilt and arrogant disposition.
However, realistically, if she were able to attend this kind of high-school as a student, then her family’s financial situation was pretty good. The supporting female character always thought that her family background, which she always took pride in, could only be considered as middle-class in regards to the school’s society. It can be said that the background of multiple students could frighten a person to death.
So as a result, there should be no one who wouldn’t accept her.
Due to the supporting female’s unpleasant temper, there were many classmates in her classes that couldn’t tolerate her. That, in addition to her elegant appearance, would cause several students to nickname her, “sissy”. (1)
(1) Alternatively, this can also be known as a person who has feminine qualities with a short temper, 死娘炮 is the whole term, this can also align with the word a bitchy-effeminate (gay) man.
The supporting female’s temper could also be labeled as strong-willed. She had been a girl in the first place, so if she was a little bitchy it was normal to her. Therefore, she would directly refute their words with, “So what if I’m a sissy, what of it?”
This reply would cause her classmates in the same department and year as her to become disgusted. In the months prior to her downfall, the female supporting character was consistently called out as a “sissy” by others.
It wasn’t too much to say that the female supporting character seemingly was destined for tragedy at the very start.
She had been ostracized by her own group of classmates, how could that not be considered tragic?
Peijin restlessly tapped her foot out of nervousness. While her temper and the original owner’s were not the same, she naturally wasn’t hostile to others. However with her appearance, even though she had a short haircut like a dog had bit off half of her hair, if others weren’t blind, they would discover she was a girl early on.
But she didn’t want to fall into ruin. (1)
(1) Initial word is “fall off her horse”, similar to the English phrase, “Fall from Grace”
What would she do in the event that others called her a pervert again?
Peijin anxiously stood up from her chair.
What to do, what exactly should she do? Suddenly, Peijin saw a pair of glasses that had fallen underneath her desk.
These glasses must’ve been lost, left behind by the previous student.
It had fallen into a corner when the student had been cleaning up and because it was in a difficult spot to find, they must’ve left it behind.
Peijin pursed her lips as she bent down to pick up the glasses.
These were black-framed, men’s styled-glasses. What came as a surprise was that these were plain glass glasses, not prescription frames.
At this point in time, the sound of people talking and rolling luggage came from outside the door.
Was this her roommate?
With this, Peijin instinctively put on the glasses. In the next second, the dorm room was opened by someone from the outside.
A bodyguard dressed in black came in first, holding a suitcase in hand.
After the bodyguard entered, a woman in her later-years closely followed, looking to be Aunt (1) or Nanny. The Nanny was also holding two similar suitcases in both her hands.
(1) In Chinese stories incorporating characters of wealthier status, Aunts/Nannies are usually caretakers for wealthy children in place for their busy parents.
Once she came in, the Nanny nimbly opened the suitcase and began to prepare fresh bedsheets with great speed.
She didn’t say a single word the entire time and while her movements were swift, the end result of her work was of high quality.
After she finished spreading out the bedsheets, with great agility, she proceeded to draw some water and wipe down the cabinets and such at least three times.
Once she was done wiping it for the third time, the cabinets were now so clean they shone, but the entire process had taken less than five or six minutes.
Peijin, who had just been an average commoner in her prior life, stood to the side, stunned. These people were way too accomplished in their professional roles, and she didn’t even know how much their max salary was.
While Peijin still stood there in a daze, the nanny had already started to take out a set of clothes from the suitcase and was even using clothes hangers to hang it up.
She then opened another suitcase after completely stuffing the whole closet with clothes.
As soon as she saw this suitcase, Peijin’s eyes almost bulged out.
This was because this suitcase was completely filled with shoes! Roughly speaking, there should be about twenty pairs of shoes inside.
For a guy to actually have more shoes than a girl, this was simply madness!
Peijin wasn’t familiar with the shoes of boys, but even looking from here, she was able to recognize numerous brand names among several of the shoes. For this reason alone, just the sheer overwhelming popularity of these shoes made it difficult for her not to know them.
A random pair of shoes was worth the money that Father Pei had just sent her.
After Peijin received 50,000 dollars in pocket money, she had fidgeted in her chair for a good while, feeling that the pocket money Father Pei had given her was too much.
But after seeing this nouveau riche attitude of her roommate, she discovered, a fortune in her eyes was just money for a pair of shoes in anothers.
This was the humongous gap between the rich and the poor. A girl from the slums like her wasn’t used to it.
As she thought, Peijin sighed.
Because of the sound of the light sigh, the bodyguard and Nanny’s attention both focused on her at once.
Peijin inexplicably felt a flash of nervousness. However the others obviously never saw her as important, and after glancing at her they moved their sights away.
After they finished dragging on the routine, the Nanny sprayed the fresh scent of perfume into the air. Only once everything was set did the bodyguard call out in a respectful tone, “Young Master (1), we have finished preparing the dormitory.”
(1) 贺少 or He Shao, translates to Young Master He, translator has made it Young Master to flow better.
As he finished speaking, someone languidly walked in from outside the door.
Due to the sun’s glare, Peijin was temporarily unable to clearly see her roommate’s appearance.
She could only make out the tall height of her roommate, looking to be at least 185 centimeters (1). He wore a very simple arrangement of black slacks and a white collared shirt. However, just based off of his extremely casual style, Peijin was able to perceive a dichotomous unruliness.
(1) 185 cm = Roughly 6’1 feet.
The other party had both of his hands in his pockets and his posture seemed to be rather careless.
The Nanny blatantly glanced at Peijin and politely asked, “Young Master, are you really sure you don’t want to live in a single person dorm?”
Peijin felt as if this was a bad start and couldn’t help but vent inwardly as, surprisingly even other families’ nannies even looked down on her.
“No need.”
His casual tone carried a reckless frivolity only a few teenagers had, but his voice was unexpectedly pleasant to the ears.
Peijin was able to clearly see his looks once he took a few more steps forward.
As soon as she saw the other party’s face, Peijin stopped breathing.
No wonder this was called All Handsome Boys’ High School (1), all of them were handsome. Even her roommate, a background character was so handsome he could be despised by God and men alike.
(1) Alternatively known as All Boy’s Highschool
The benefits of transmigration were also wonderful.
Peijin didn’t think that transmigration was such a tragic matter after she clearly saw her roommate’s looks.
Because her roommate was really way way way way way way way too handsome, even if she were to live several years more in her prior life she would never come across a student who was still more handsome than her roommate.
Even celebrities from her past life couldn’t compare to one strand of her roommate’s hair.
In the end, Peijin was just a girl who hadn’t grown up yet. When she saw a good-looking person of the opposite sex, of course, she wouldn’t be able to calm her heart.
However, that was it.
She only purely enjoyed her roommate’s attractiveness and didn’t have any more ideas than that.
When all was said and done, she had been brainwashed by those around her for several years to think that her college entrance exam and school were the most important.
So after she transmigrated, what was most important to Peijin’s heart was still her college entrance exam and her education. Even though her roommate defined peak attractiveness, her heart wouldn’t waver from studying hard.
Right then, her roommate seemed to finally notice her and casually smirked, “Roommate?”
Peijin rubbed her hands as she rose from her spot.
Before the bright, piercing eyes of the nanny and bodyguard, she introduced herself a bit awkwardly, “Mhm. I’m called Peijin.”
His tone was still as casual as before, “He Xun.”
Woah, even my roommate’s name is attractive too!
The novel never mentioned the original owner’s roommate much, to the point that the roommate’s name never appeared.
That was because the original owner had lived here for three days in the double dorm and then moved out.
The novel had never written as to the exact reason she moved.
Peijin felt that with such a roommate, how could the original owner be willing to move?
After their brief introduction, He Xun casually waved his hand at his bodyguard and nanny.
“Young Master, then we’ll be going?”
He Xun sat in one of the chairs and uninterestedly replied with one word, “Ok.”
Before she left, the Nanny threw a cold look at Peijin, loaded with a snobbish message.
Peijin felt that the air had become a bit more fresh after the bodyguard and nanny’s departure.
As a young girl from the slums, the scene she had met a few minutes ago had really been her first experience of something like this. It was too exciting, her little heart was unable to take it.
When the bodyguard and nanny had been here for a short while, her whole body felt uncomfortable, especially when the two of them obviously were ignoring her and each of their movements revealed a contempt for her.
Thankfully it was her in this current situation, due to her good nature, she wouldn’t make a fuss of it. If it were the original owner, she probably would’ve made a fuss.
If she were to make a scene, wouldn’t she have offended her roommate on the first day?
Not only that but the Nanny clearly wasn’t meant to be messed with, it seemed she was a pretty good fighter.
With this thought, out of the blue, Peijin’s head began to fill with the beginning and end of the original owner once she moved out.
Did she have no choice but to move out of this dorm because she would have a lot of arguments with her roommate?
Peijin inexplicably sensed this was the truth of the matter.
The atmosphere became peaceful once only Peijin and He Xun were left in the dorm.
He Xun took out a lighter and box of cigarettes from the pocket of his trousers. He moved with experienced ease as he took out a cigarette. A click sounded and the lighter emitted a blue flame, lighting the end of the cigarette at once.
Noticing Peijin’s blank stare, He Xun raised an eyebrow, “Want a smoke?”
Peijin quickly shook her head, “No no no, I don’t want it.”
He Xun’s eyes passed upon Peijin’s bookwormish glasses and the corner of his mouth carried a heedless smile. Briefly lowering his voice, he asked, “Nerd, you’ve never smoked before?”
Peijin felt a bit uneasy as she heard the nickname, “No.” How could she smoke!
Through the curls of the smoke, He Xun narrowed his alluring, fox-like eyes, “Do you want to try?”
His voice had hardly died away when Peijin started to uncontrollably cough as she breathed in the cigarette smoke. The scent of cigarettes was thick and from the very start, she had never been used to it and would easily cough from the smell.
She pitifully coughed as she replied, “I… I don’t want to.”
He Xun eyed Peijin for a while as he held his cigarette between his fingers.
A choppy pile of hair like a dog had gnawed at it and old fashioned glasses, how exactly did this person transfer into this school? Had the school’s qualifications for recruiting new students fallen so low?
Peijin was physically dry-retching because she was coughing too violently, as a result, her whole face was red, like she was about to suffocate.
He Xun clicked his tongue, throwing the cigarette he had just been smoking onto the ground and grinding it with his foot.
“Alright, alright, I’ll stop smoking.”
Only after a while passed was Peijin able to recover and raise her head to look He Xun in the eye. Her body still felt a bit unwell but for her future dormitory life, she hesitantly opened her mouth, “You can go to the washroom in the future to smoke.”
He Xun laughed with a sneer, “What? Do you dislike me?”
Peijin was silent for two seconds and then began to slowly explain, “No, it’s not that. It’s just that smoking is harmful and the risk of second-hand smoking is very high. Even more so in a narrow room like this because the air doesn’t circulate…..”
He Xun waved his hand as if his head hurt, “Okay, okay, Lao Zi (1) is afraid of nerds like you. Once you start you don’t stop at all.”
(1) Lao Zi or 老子 is a way of addressing oneself in a “higher” manner/conceited, after this indication, the translator will only use ‘I’ for Lao Zi.
Peijin pursed her lips, “I’m doing it for the sake of both parties.”
After all, a dorm’s ambience was supposed to be like a large family depending on each other, and having a safe living environment was good for everyone.
The expression on He Xun’s flawless face lightened, “Oh.”
What was ‘Oh’ supposed to mean? Are you agreeing?
Peijin was unable to stop herself from trying again, “Then from now on…”
He Xun stood up. When he tall legs and stature, when he gave a feeling of oppressive tension.
He himself had his own reasons for selecting to live at school and even though his roommate looked to be a bit slow-witted, they didn’t feel the same as everyone else. At least this roommate was pretty quiet and seemed to know their place, so they wouldn’t bore him.
With this, He Xun felt that it would be alright to take a step back.
“I know.”
Peijin nodded her head and replied with an earnest tone, “Thank you.”
When He Xun heard the sound of his roommate’s thanks, he felt a bit strange. Although this nerd looked to be slow, he was very courteous.
He lazily stretched and began to stride forward with his long legs, taking the lead, “Going.”
Hearing the sound of him leaving, it occurred to Peijin that there would be a school-wide meeting in each classroom soon.
She hurriedly stood up, “Wait for me.”
Because she had extended beyond her range of motion, the unsuitable size of her glasses fell downwards. She quickly supported her glasses and all of a sudden, she found herself in a rush.
He Xun stood to the side with both his hands in his pockets, smirking as he looked at this scene. Nerds would be nerdy, in whatever they did they would always look dull-witted.
Before Peijin left she didn’t forget to use a tissue to pick up the cigarette He Xun had thrown on the floor, balling it up and throwing it into the wastebasket.
After all this, she got up again and prepared to leave.
Thinking about the class meeting that would take place in a bit, Peijin’s heart was full of curiosity. Her roommate was already handsome to this degree, what had the other boys in All Handsome Boy’s Highschool grown to look like?
