During class, Peijin’s phone vibrated non-stop in her backpack.
She was a bit curious as to what Fatty and the others were talking about, but as a good student of ten-years she would rather firmly restrain her strong curiosity until the end and wait until after class ended before picking up her phone again.
As soon as she took out her phone, her body froze in amazement.
Another 999+ messages, this group of boys talked way too much.
However, after looking at the contents of their messages she was able to understand why they were able to chat so much.
It turns out for most of the physics class earlier, they were sharing resources with one another. That kind of resource.
Peijin couldn’t help but think, why were all of them like this, so…reckless and unconcerned? Don’t they know how to be a bit more subtle! In addition, to avoid being labeled, they euphemistically described this as an ‘intangible cultural heritage.”
Peijin had to give it to them. Even she didn’t dare to do these types of things, so she hurriedly swept the message up.
She had never wanted to see their chat records in the first place, but now for the sake of integrating quicker into this microclique, she had to control her temper and slowly read all of the chat history. If she didn’t understand them at all, how was she supposed to talk when she joined them?
After she finished reading the chat records, she couldn’t help but think, thank god she had read it all, what would she have done if she missed out any important information?
[ Became a Fatty in One Bite: Brother Xun’s birthday is today, what did you guys get ready for his celebration? ]
[ Zheng Family’s Little Prince: Ah-Xun doesn’t want to do it, celebrating is pointless. ]
[ Became a Fatty in One Bite: After all these years, Brother Xun still doesn’t want to celebrate his birthday? ]
[ Skyful of Stars (Chen): Hey. Let’s not talk about this anymore, however tonight’ll go, then it’ll go. Let’s just accompany Brother Xun, play cards and eat some snacks. ]
[ Became a Fatty in One Bite: Okay. Right, tonight are we ordering from the five-star hotel? ]
[ Skyful of Stars (Chen): That’s for sure. Fatty, as soon as we talk about food and drink you’re always so energetic. ]
Up until here, Peijin wasn’t able to stop herself from speaking.
[ Little Five: Is it okay to talk about Brother Xun’s matters in the group? ]
To so blatantly discuss He Xun’s birthday matters, weren’t they afraid that said person would see it?
What if they had actually wanted to give a surprise, if it were like this, then wouldn’t there be no sense of surprise at all?
[ Became a Fatty in One Bite: It’s fine, Brother Xun rarely looks at this Wechat group. It’s just us three who chat in this here, now we have you. Little Five, if you ever want to find Brother Xun for anything in the future, it’s better to privately message him. ]
Peijin’s finger softly pressed down, [ Little Five: Got it. ]
After class let out, Fatty darted over to He Xun’s side, a look of joy on his face as he said, “Brother Xun, later come to our dorms to play, we just ordered from a hotel, in a little while they’ll deliver our food.”
He Xun had fallen asleep during class. At present, his head of layered hair was a little bit messy.
He slowly got up and leaned forward with both his hands propped on the desk. From the front, his hair was parted in silky strands. Only after a while passed did he come to and let out a sound.
Met with his reply, a genuine and sincere smile squeezed out on Fatty’s plump face.
Zheng Li waved his hand, “Go go go, let’s go back to the dorms.”
Naturally, Peijin left with the main troops.
She walked quietly from the back, listening to the bustle of the group’s members up front. As she heard them joking and gossiping with one another, a small smile emerged from the corner of her lips.
Not long after she had smiled, with one hand in his pocket, He Xun looked back at her from over his shoulder. Seeing that she had been left behind, He Xun raised an eyebrow, saying, “Nerd, what are you doing? With your head in the clouds, you better get a move on.”
Peijin sounded out a ‘hey’ and quickly jogged to follow beside He Xun.
Her Demon King roommate was a full 26 centimeters taller than her, yet when she stood by his side, she was filled with a feeling of safety.
After they arrived at Fatty, the three’s dorm room, Peijin felt that she had really heightened her experiences.
They had applied for a multi-student dorm, so their room had a far more room in comparison to her and He Xun’s dorm. Aside from having a kitchen and bathroom like hers, they also had an additional small living room which even had a sofa.
The dorm had been completely transformed by them to resemble a game-room. In addition to a dartboard, weights, they actually even had a pool table inside.
Peijin couldn’t help but think, were they here to learn, or to idle around, to eat, drink, and enjoy themselves?
It must be the latter.
The dishes that Fatty ordered arrived shortly thereafter, along with three whole boxes of beer and red wine. (1)
(1) Chinese ‘high school’ students usually graduate at 18 years, which is the minimum drinking age of China. Since it is He Xun’s birthday and the characters are in their senior year of high school it can be assumed that these students are around ages 17-19.
Zheng Li acted the quickest, he swiftly used his teeth to break open the cap and took an abrupt swig.
He let out a sigh of ease after swallowing the cold beer. After he finished hurriedly called out to everyone, “Come, come, come, start drinking, we’re going to get hammered tonight.”
All of them lifted their beer bottles in hand and clinked their glasses, Peijin included.
However she didn’t dare drink more than a small, secret sip.
The beer was bitter to the taste and as of a matter of fact, it wasn’t tasty at all. But Peijin wouldn’t say that, out of fear. If she were to say she was a complete stranger to drinking, it’s estimated that within a few minutes she would be exposed.
After a while, Fatty and the rest of them were drunk.
He Xun continued to sit at the side, silently drinking. Peijin took one glance at the others and got up, sitting down next to He Xun.
He nonchalantly looked at her, but didn’t say anything, only clinking bottles with her.
Peijin, seeing that He Xun had been especially reticent today, was unable to stop herself from saying, “Heard it’s your birthday today.”
He Xun initially gave her a look of surprise, but after he guessed that she must’ve heard about this from Fatty and the others, the shock in his eyes vanished.
Peijin pursed her lips and for the first time, she wanted to get to the bottom of things.
“They said that you don’t like to celebrate your birthday, why?”
The completely empty bottle swayed in his hands, and He Xun briskly replied, “No reason.”
Peijin straightened up, both of her hands tightly holding the beer bottle and arduously persisted, “There must be a reason.”
The corners of He Xun’s lips pulled up and he gave a self deprecating smile, “Reason? You wanna know?”
Peijin earnestly nodded her head.
“Because the person who gave birth to me, the person I love the most, is already gone.”
Peijin was taken aback, she had been wholly unprepared for this kind of justification.
Eyelids drooping, He Xun’s head dipped down a bit, and for a moment one wasn’t able to see his expression.
But thinking about it, she knew. Right now, his mood most definitely wasn’t great.
For the first time, his body no longer held the wild and arrogant vigorance of a teenager. He looked entirely haggard and exhausted, a downcast look of frustration unfolding on his face.
Peijin instantly regretted asking. She knew that she must’ve inadvertently given rise to some of He Xun’s sad memories. It had been He Xun’s birthday today, he should be happy, but he had never been happy from the start and she had no intention to add to his sadness.
She felt ashamed, and then uneasy.
Peijin gave a ‘hi’. Both of He Xun’s arms were casually slung over his knees, half-heartedly holding the wine bottle in his hands. When he heard her ‘hi’, he slightly raised his eyes, looking towards Peijin.
She felt a little nervous, but she still opened her mouth and diligently said, “Although that person you spoke of isn’t here anymore. But…from now on someone you who loves you more will definitely appear. Your world will be filled with love.”
Author wants to say: For the sake of our motherland, no matter how ugly we are we should date, date until the whole world is full of love lolololol.
