"October 3rd, sunny. Today is the twenty-first day since I met Li Mu."
In the luxurious room of the apartment by the Clear Water River in Melbourne, Annie leaned against the floor-to-ceiling window, raising her head to look at the slanting sun outside. She had never thought that she would be able to live in one of Melbourne's top luxury homes in her lifetime.
But Annie no longer cared. Even the most luxurious home was nothing in this apocalypse.
Annie checked the time, lowered her head, and continued writing in her notebook, "It's 5:27 PM now. In three minutes, Li Mu will be back. Usually, he brings some food or some friends. Sometimes I wonder what my current status really is?"
"A collaborator, or a pet kept by a zombie. But when I think about it carefully, it seems meaningless. At least, I can survive with my sister, right?"
"Then considering these moral issues is also meaningless. Even if it weren't for this apocalypse, there are so many examples in reality. Being a plaything for the rich and being a pet for a zombie, there's not much difference..."
Annie stopped writing, carefully read the diary she had written, thought for a moment, and continued, "I'm not writing this diary to justify myself. I just feel that this might be the last trace I leave in the world. If someone can read this diary in the future, I hope they can know more about Li Mu."
"Zombies, perhaps, are very different from what we think. At least, Li Mu is different."
She forcefully wrote the last stroke, raised her head, and looked at the door. With a click, the door opened, and Li Mu, wearing a black windbreaker, black pants, black sunglasses, and a black tie, walked in with a stride, his expression hidden behind the dark glasses.
A red mutant parrot, struggling to carry a bag of food, flapped its wings hard and flew in behind Li Mu, its sharp voice suddenly ringing out, "Stupid woman, are you blind? Don't come and get the food!"
Annie immediately stood up, nodded at Li Mu, "You're back."
Then, she habitually walked forward, took the bag from the red mutant parrot's claws, and glanced inside, surprised, "There's actually steak. Where did you find it?"
"Idiot." The red mutant parrot sneered, seeing that Li Mu had already sat down on the sofa, hurriedly followed, landed by Li Mu's hand, and impatiently continued, "Don't ask so many questions. Go cook. And there's another idiot outside, go take care of it later."
Annie's hands involuntarily trembled, and she nodded, "I understand."
As she spoke, Annie subconsciously glanced at Li Mu. Li Mu was expressionless, wearing sunglasses, and sat on the sofa with his legs spread wide. Because of the sunglasses, his expression was unclear.
But Annie knew that among this strange group of zombies, Li Mu was the only king. The red mutant parrot was just a messenger, responsible for conveying Li Mu's orders. As for the other zombie...
Thinking of Charlie, Annie was startled and quickly looked at the secondary bedroom. Sure enough, Charlie had silently approached the door of the secondary bedroom, his blood-red eyes filled with desire, targeting her sister who was sleeping inside.
Annie immediately burst with incredible strength, quickly rushing into the secondary bedroom. Just before Charlie reached the bed and woke her sister, she scooped up her sister and screamed at Charlie, "You, get away!"
Annie was somewhat afraid. Charlie showed an unimaginable desire and passion for her sister. Although after some observation, Annie had discovered that Charlie didn't seem to want to eat her sister, the thought of her young sister being close to a zombie was unbearable.
Charlie began to growl, his blood-red eyes flashing with a bloodthirsty light. The human scent stimulated his senses, making Annie even more afraid. She gritted her teeth, directly carried her sister out of the door, and as she passed Charlie, she smelled the decaying odor from his body, which made her even more terrified. When she reached the living room and saw Li Mu, Annie felt reassured, even though Charlie was still chasing after them with his arms outstretched.
She knew that as long as Li Mu was there, she was safe. It was a strange feeling, relying on a zombie for protection, and even subconsciously, Annie regarded Li Mu as her only guardian.
This strange emotion made Annie, despite knowing it was wrong, still deeply immersed in it. In this cruel apocalypse, Annie felt that Li Mu, this unique zombie, might be more reliable than humans.
Annie held her sister and spent a considerable amount of time frying enough steak. The aroma of the food made Annie and her sister involuntarily swallow. Although during the time they were kept by Li Mu, Annie and her sister were not lacking in food, the long-awaited taste of steak still made them crave it.
But they dared not eat secretly. Annie and her sister carefully arranged the food on the dining table. Annie carefully instructed her sister a few more times, then quickly carried her to Li Mu, bowed, and carefully let her sister sit quietly at Li Mu's feet.
The time they had spent together had taught Annie and her sister how to survive in this strange group.
Stay away from the red mutant parrot, stay away from Charlie, and stay close to Li Mu. That was all.
Seeing her sister, who was somewhat fearful but finally sitting quietly at Li Mu's feet, Charlie stood far away, his blood-red eyes fixed on Li Mu, growling continuously but not daring to approach. The red mutant parrot held a book, reading it while telling Li Mu the story.
Li Mu maintained his previous posture, sitting on the sofa with his legs spread wide, as if petrified.
Annie took a deep breath, turned back to her room, and soon returned with a large bag. Her eyes were filled with determination and uncontainable fear as she opened the door. At the end of the corridor, a strong zombie stood there, motionless.
Suppressing her fear and disgust, Annie slowly approached, not daring to look at the zombie. She quickly used scissors to cut off the zombie's tattered, blood-stained clothes. After a moment's thought, she turned and found a suitable windbreaker from the bag, draping it over the zombie.
Putting pants on the zombie was a painful task. Even though Annie knew the zombie was now like a puppet, this strong and heavy zombie made her sweat profusely by the time she finished.
After tidying up the zombie and dressing it in new clothes, although it still looked fierce, it was much better than before. From a distance, it might be mistaken for a strong survivor.
Quickly tidying up the things on the ground, Annie didn't dare to look closely at the zombie's appearance, and quickly ran back, slightly out of breath, and said to Li Mu, "We can eat now."
"Vivian." Annie called softly.
The little girl immediately got up from the floor and followed Annie to the kitchen. After Annie washed the blood off her hands, she led her sister out of the kitchen, and by the time they reached the dining table, the zombies were already seated.
Li Mu sat at the head of the table, expressionless, with the red parrot, Charlie, and the new zombie on his left.
