Raul had every reason to feel fear. The zombie battle he had just witnessed completely颠覆ed his long-held beliefs. Although he had read many reports and knew that these zombies were becoming different and evolving, he never imagined it would be like this. It's like if cockroaches evolved into mosquitoes, it wouldn't be scary, but if cockroaches evolved into humans or Transformers, who could remain calm?
And all of this had just played out before Raul's eyes. The first time he saw Li Mu, he was clearly just a severely injured zombie with a missing right hand. But in the blink of an eye, after devouring a Licker, not only did his wounds heal, but he also evolved a bone spike out of nowhere.
Thinking about that bone spike, Raul felt his scalp tingle. A bone spike that could instantly turn a person into a mummy with just one stab, and even more exaggeratedly, it clearly enhanced Li Mu's devouring ability tenfold.
A severely injured zombie had, right before his eyes, not only healed but also evolved to become stronger. This kind of transformation was enough to terrify anyone just by watching.
And that King displayed a level of intelligence far beyond the norm. At first, Raul thought the King had fled into the zombie horde out of fear of Li Mu, but it wasn't that at all. It was just a feint to lure Li Mu into attacking it, and with one strike, it subdued Li Mu. It almost managed to take down Raul's tactical team and the helicopter as well.
The more Raul thought about it, the more he felt a chill.
In response to Raul's roar, Dr. Kahn was silent for a moment, seemingly digesting the footage. After a while, he said with a more fervent tone, "Good, I understand. Bring back that King, and the other zombie, and the five-meter-tall zombie as well."
"Are you out of your mind? I'm done, Kahn, I'm telling you, I'm done!" Raul exploded in rage, cursing.
"My people are already there," Dr. Kahn said expressionlessly.
Before Raul could respond, he heard Charlie exclaim, "What the hell is that?! A Terminator?!"
Everyone followed Charlie's gaze and was instantly stunned. At the end of the street, a towering figure was sprinting, standing about 2.5 meters tall, not as impressive as the five-meter-tall giant zombie, but still striking.
What was striking was that the figure was fully armed, with golden ammunition belts wrapped around its body. Its right hand was not a hand but a Gatling gun, and on its back was a single-person rocket launcher. Its limbs were covered in metal, and it had a metal face mask, resembling the Terminator from a movie from years ago.
"Terminator? Good name, I like it," Dr. Kahn laughed maniacally, his eyes gleaming with fervor. "Quick, focus the camera on it. I want to see every detail of its performance. This is a perfect debut, hahaha."
Raul and the others were speechless, just staring at the suddenly appearing figure. The figure sprinted with incredible speed, and as it ran, the Gatling gun in its right hand began to spin, the sound of machine gun fire ringing out in the night.
Then, the zombies in the street fell one by one, all with headshots. Even while controlling the Gatling gun, the figure ignored the recoil and achieved 100% accuracy, a feat even the best snipers in the military couldn't match, especially while running and controlling a Gatling gun.
Rattle!
The muzzle flashed continuously, and the sound of spent shell casings hitting the ground accompanied the fall of the zombies crowding the street. The figure was like a Terminator from the movies, destroying everything in its path.
The King instantly screamed, its grayish-white eyes flashing with anger. The five-meter-tall giant zombie roared and took a step forward, blocking the King. With its massive arms, it flung the zombies out of the way and picked up a car to throw.
"Hmph."
Dr. Kahn snorted, his fingers manipulating the controls. The Terminator-like figure jumped, easily clearing the car, and the Gatling gun in its hand roared, unleashing a metal storm. Even the tank-like five-meter-tall zombie was forced to retreat, blood splattering.
"Such strong defense, you must bring back this zombie."
Dr. Kahn was not alarmed but delighted, roaring.
Raul nodded instinctively, then drew a sharp breath, asking, "Dr. Kahn, what is this thing?"
Raul was shocked. He knew Kahn's research was crucial to the base, otherwise, the base wouldn't tolerate Kahn's whims and let their elite tactical team stay in Melbourne.
But if this Terminator-like existence was Kahn's research, Raul had to admit that the wait was indeed worth it.
"It's an M2. I removed all its nerves and added mechanical and electronic equipment, controlling the muscle groups with a chip. My super soldier, yes, Terminator, I like that name."
Kahn laughed, clearly satisfied with this masterpiece's debut.
"Damn, where did you get the M2?!" Raul screamed, feeling a chill. Although he had suspicions, he never imagined it was actually a zombie, an M2. More terrifying was that they didn't know when Kahn had hidden this terrifying thing in his lab.
Thinking about the past month, with a zombie just a few meters away from their beds, being studied by Kahn, Raul felt a chill. These damn mad scientists!
"Didn't you capture an M1 last time? It evolved," Kahn said vaguely, not explaining further. "Get closer, I need all its data."
Raul was annoyed but, seeing the Terminator's power, had to admit that if Kahn's research succeeded, there might be a glimmer of hope to defeat these zombies.
Rattle!
The Terminator's Gatling gun roared, firing hundreds of bullets per second into the giant zombie, forcing it to retreat. Even with its evolved physical form, the giant zombie was no match for human weaponry.
"The stability is pretty good," Kahn said with a fervent tone, pressing a button. The Terminator slowly stopped the Gatling gun in its right hand, grabbed the rocket launcher with its left, and without hesitation, fired.
Boom!
The giant zombie was instantly blasted away, a large hole exploding in its chest. This scene made everyone exhale a long breath.
At this moment, even if they were annoyed with Kahn, Raul's tactical team knew that in the face of these rapidly evolving zombies, they could only rely on science.
Scream!
A sharp roar echoed, and the King suddenly screamed, a tangible sound wave sweeping across. Even though Raul and his team were prepared, they couldn't help but cover their ears in pain. Kahn roared, "What are you doing! I can't see anything!"
As Kahn's roar began, he suddenly paused, looking down to see that the screen representing the Terminator had disconnected, the red "Unable to Connect" message making Kahn feel as if he had been doused with cold water.
The Terminator, which had been sweeping all before it with human weaponry, suddenly had its mask's red light flicker and go out, freezing in place.
The giant zombie roared and rose, reaching out to grab a power pole, which it pulled up with a whistling sound, and with a crash, impaled the Terminator, pinning it to the wall of a building, motionless, blood dripping.
All sounds seemed to stop with the King's roar. Raul, clutching his ears in pain, saw the Terminator, which had represented great science and human immortality, suddenly shut down and be impaled by the giant zombie in the next moment.
Seeing the giant zombie roar and stride toward the Terminator, it was easy to imagine that in the next moment, Kahn's carefully researched Terminator would be torn to pieces.
The screen flickered and reconnected, Kahn, furious and eyes bloodshot, demanded, "What happened! I lost contact with the Terminator!"
"The King. The King roared, and your Terminator shut down," Raul said bitterly.
Kahn was stunned, his eyes gleaming as he quickly calculated, "How is that possible? How is that possible! Could brain waves, enhanced thirty times, really become a mental field? That's not scientific! Could it be that the Kings control zombies through mental impulses, replacing neurons? But they shouldn't be powerful enough to paralyze electronic signals..."
"I need it! Raul, I must get it!"
Kahn, unable to find an answer, knew he needed to capture the King for research to find the answer. Perhaps Dr. Luoshui's hypothesis was correct: the Kings control zombies through mental power, depriving them of neurons. If so, could the Kings also control humans?
Thinking about this, Kahn went mad, knowing he had to get the King!
Raul directly cut off the communication. If even the Terminator was taken down by the King's roar, their team wouldn't stand a chance. Raul wasn't going to go mad with Kahn.
"Boss, look at that zombie!"
Someone suddenly called out, and Raul immediately looked down, only to see that the zombie, which had been controlled by the King, was now moving.
