After a hell-like week, yet another girl died just a day before the drugs arrived. Her still warm corpse passed right by as the password protected container was shipped into the barracks, an image that was akin to a cruel joke. The children watched this sight with a heavy heart, knowing that this might be their future one day.
Allen’s bright red eyes stared at the container, watching as it was brought into the barracks by two soldiers. He clenched his first, swearing to survive no matter what.
Lannie and Bai Fang’s gazes flashed past his mind, and the determination and the pain in their eyes gripped at his heart. He had sworn to the kill the people who took away those eyes, be it the Black Widow hunting team or the Predators!
But Allen had to first crawl out of this hell. The fire of revenge was burning in his eyes, and he knew that the first step towards his goal was using those drugs.
Watching as the medicine entered the barracks, Ron spoke to the children, “I hope all of you have already read the manual. At noon, you will accept Enlightenment into your bodies and you must follow the instructions to awaken the potential in your genes. Remember to ignite your tinders by the second try, because on your third try, your potential will be limited and your lifespan will decrease.”
There were two hours before noon, and under the grace of the lieutenant, the children did not have to train. They were allowed to return to the barracks to read their manuals, and the children tried their best to remember every word in their hearts, in hopes of igniting their tinder on the first try.
Allen was no exception, he read the manual once before putting it down. In truth, he only needed to read it once to remember it’s contents. During the hell-like training he endured, not only did he become stronger, his memory became shockingly better. It was as if the cruel training had pushed his body towards its limits, awakening the hidden abilities hiding inside of him.
The body he had when he first entered the barracks was now two times better.
The manual that the lieutenant had passed down documented the process of awakening their genes and igniting their tinders. This process was refined by the government throughout the span of a hundred years, and was circulated within in the army, helping many of the soldiers become to Origin users. Of course, the wealthy families on the Babylon had their own methods, instead of using these widespread information.
After all, doping had certain side-effects. Of course, this didn’t matter to the common folk on the land, but for the wealthy, they pursued perfection. Not even the branch families would consider to use these drugs.
Familiarising himself with the contents of the manual, Allen did nothing. In this rare moment of freedom, he completely relaxed himself on his bed. But as for the other children, most of them were still worrying.
Time passed quickly, and it was already noon. After lunch, the children were gathered in a large hall. It was dug out space within the mountains, and was the only place large and quiet enough. When the two metal doors were shut, the room was isolated from the noise from the outside. Gathered in the room were the children, Ron and a few army doctors.
According to the instructions, Allen and the others sat cross legged on the ground as the doctors unlocked container. Taking out a fluorescent green liquid contained in a 3cm tube, they loaded it into their guns. With Ron’s permission, they started to inject the drug into the arms of the children.
As the cold needle pierced their skin and injected the medicine into their bodies, Allen could feel himself becoming dizzy. He knew that this was the sign of the drug’s effects, it drastically increased their sensitivity, but also had the effect of a psychedelic drug.
The manual mentioned that as the drug took effect, the user had to gather their focus and meditate. Only then could they have a chance to feel the Origin resonating in their bodies and awaken it.
Universe Origin and Life Origin, one was external and one was internal. Universe Origin is absorbed externally, with the Demon Cube Energy device being an excellent example. However, Life Origin were the complete opposite, without absolute focus, it was impossible to reach the hidden strength in the human genes.
According to the method described on the manual, Allen used deep breaths to calm himself, despite his exponentially increasing sensitivity. Quickly, the surroundings became silent around him as his heartbeat resonated in his ears. His heartbeat resembled the sound of steady drums, and as he focused that sound, the world around him became strangely quiet.
His past experiences flashed past his eyes like a recording, he watched as Bai fang fell, himself leaving the pack and even the white finger against the black burnt ground.
His short life flashed past him in the form of countless images, before eventually disappearing and becoming nothingness.
In the eyes of his spirit, a light started to appear in his lonely world. Under a red glow, he could see something moving slowly. And once his spirit touched a corner of the thing, Allen suddenly understood, that was a fetus.
That was himself!
Under the effects of the drug, Allen’s spirit dived deep into his soul, as if it was on a journey into the place where it all begun. At first, it was the images of his life after his birth, then followed by the time when he was a fetus. Then, this journey continued to delve deeper, and as something shattered and revealed itself in his soul, he saw countless lights. Resembling the stars in the universe, it filled the vision in his consciousness!
Allen was overjoyed, he knew that he had entered the depths of his genes, and he could now “see” his Life Origin with his consciousness. He immediately tried to reach for this lights with his spirit, and what seemed with be so close, was actually extremely distant. Without giving up, Allen continued to reach forward, and as he did, he could feel his spirit stretching thin.
And as his spirit became as thin as a strain of hair, it finally latched onto a light. The immobile spot of light suddenly flashed as it was touched, and it started to move towards his spirit. The small ball of light turned into an blinding brilliance in his “eyes”, and as his consciousness trembled, Allen couldn’t stop himself as he fell forwards.
Then, he opened his eyes to see a pair of sturdy army boots in front of him. Raising his head, he saw the surprised expression on Ron’s face.
Ron had stared at him for a minute, causing the hairs on his body to stand. Only then did he reveal a smile as he patted Allen with a strength that almost sent him back on the ground, “You didn’t disappoint me, kid. Succeeding on your first try, not bad.”
Allen couldn’t even react in time, and only after a while did he feel that something, along with his blood, was circulating in his body.
That was his first Origin vortex!
Forming a Origin vortex was the sign of igniting a tinder. From this moment onwards, Allen was now considered a Origin user, albeit a new one. Lieutenant Ron gestured for a book to be brought to him that contained the names of the children. Under Allen’s name, he simply wrote down that he had ignited his tinder, and included a “Great potential” evaluation at the end.
If Ron had known that Allen was able to see his entire life, even tracing back to the period of when he was fetus, and seeing the Origin seas that resembled the starry night, maybe his comment would have changed into “Overwhelming potential”. Under the effects of the drug, the average human would barely be able to see a few stars, unlike what Allen had saw.
And even so, it was impossible for them to see the time when they were a fetus, unless they were already aware of themselves in that period! And in the end, as his spirit assimilated into the depths of his genes, the brightness of the Origin lights were a reflection of his potential. On average, those that were able to see a starry lake were already considered to have great potential.
But what Allen saw, was a Origin sea that resembled the universe!
After two hours, the effects of the drug wore off and the children started to open their eyes. The experience felt like a dream to the children, and each of them revealed a dazed expressions, but they were quickly snapped back into reality as they were whipped once by the instructors.
Ron shook his head, “You bunch of trash, no one other than Allen was able to ignite your tinders, wasting this chance. Remember, you don’t have a lot of chances left.”
The children were already skilled in taking blows, and a single whip were still something they could handle. But as they heard of Allen’s success, their gazes became different. As Allen walked out through the metal doors, he could see those gazes on him, there were jealousy, envy, hate and all kinds of other emotions present.
