With a nod of his head and a wave of his arms, the children started running, and those that fell behind were whipped mercilessly by the instructors. Only until six, when the sun started to peek through the horizon, did Ron allow the children to stop. The training camp provided them with plenty of food and dishes that complemented each other well. However, the food were mixed in with developmental supplements, giving them a slightly strange taste.
Most of the children were starving, and Allen was no exception. He had a great body that helped him to survive the harsh conditions of the wilderness for the past five years, but Ron’s running exercise alone had almost sucked out all his energy. With the lieutenant’s focus on him, every time Allen slowed down after gaining a lead beyond the rest, the lieutenant would personally whip him, forcing him to continue running with all his might.
And just like that, Allen was a three whole laps faster than the rest of the children!
His hands were still shaking as it held onto a piece of bread. Taking a deep breath, Allen tried to control his hunger as he forced himself to eat slowly. Compared to him, some of the children who had eaten too quickly were already rolling on the ground in pain. Gesturing for the instructors to take them away, Ron spoke to the rest, “Remember, after strenuous activities, binging your food will kill you. Especially if you’ve starved for a few days, start with drinking water and remember to control your portions!”
Hearing this, the children were enlightened, there was even a skill to eating.
“You have 15 minutes of rest after your meal. Next is strength training!”
Hearing this, a bitter expression appeared on the children’s faces.
In the following two months, the children’s time were spent on strength, body and all kinds of other training. And as they trained, they had to endure the attacks from the instructors, who used whips, cane, daggers and even their bare fists. Their attacks were never dependent on the location or the timing, but only at night would they cease their attacks to ensure the children had enough time to rest.
If they persisted, it would be torture, not training.
These two months passed quickly as Allen became used to this kind of lifestyle. Many of the techniques Ron taught were similar to the ones he had learned from the snow wolves, but he was also able to learn a lot more. There were many things only humans could pass down, thanks to their ability to communicate information. Compared to them, snow wolves could only show their experiences, a big difference that changed the way Allen learned.
After breakfast on the first day of the third month, Ron surprisingly did not instruct the children to start their training. Instead, he had them gather on the training grounds. In the two months of training, six more children were eliminated, leaving 29 children in total.
Staring at the remaining children, Ron revealed his standard smile, “Your performance was out of my expectations, I initially expected half of you to be left after these two months. Congratulations, kids, because from now onwards, you will be able to see the true power that exists in this world!”
Allen trembled slightly, he knew a bit about the lights that came from Ron, Bai Fang and these people. If he was right, that was the life Origin the lieutenant mentioned.
Seeing as the boy thought to himself, Ron smiled, “What is life? Using the simplest explanation, it’s the byproduct between a man and a woman. But is it that simple? No, wars exist throughout the universe. With the birth of every life, there’s already a cruel battle to overcome. Even during your conception, you’ve had to fight the chances of millions, even billions, to reach your mother’s egg!”
“Among the millions of sperms, only the strongest, and also the fastest, have a chance at conception. That means, all of you have inherited the best traits from your parents.” Pausing for a second, Ron allowed the children a moment to digest this information, “Life Origin, is the ability to bring out the potential power in your genes. Harvesting, absorbing and strengthening this energy separates us from mortals. By becoming a Origin user, all of you are able to obtain a wealth and influence that mortals couldn’t even dream of. Origin is power, and with power, you can make anywhere in the universe your paradise! Without power, humans are nothing more than life stock!”
The lieutenant’s voice was as loud as the first time they had met him, causing his words to reverberate in the minds of the children.
“Now, let us enlighten you kids on what Origin gives to us humans…” Ron raised his muscular right hand, it was as thick as a woman’s thigh and covered in veins that resembled earthworms. Lights that resembled fireflies appeared around his arm, it was dim, but still bright enough for the human eye. Seeing this, the children gasped.
The lights flittered past his arm, forming a circuit like pattern as they rested on the back of his hand, creating an image of a blade.
Waving the design on his hand, Ron continued, “Listen, awakening the potential in your genes is only the first step. In the entire Origin system, we call them tinder. Lighting the Tinder of Origin is only a ticket into this world. And only after igniting your Tinder and creating a Force Vortex, are you considered a true Origin user. “
“Even so, it’s not a sign of absolute strength. Origin users are the bottom feeders in the system, considered cannon fodder in battles. To be useful, you must first form nine Force Vortexes and create your first Gene Circuit, just like me. Creating your first Gene Circuit will be the most important moment in your lives, and an image we call Engravings will form on the back of your hands.”
“Your engraving is dependent on your talent, and the potential in your genes will determine the type of engraving you will have. After it forms, all of you will awaken your first ability. By training your Origin and forming even more Gene Circuits, can you supplement your engravings and awaken even more abilities. Only by relying on this cycle can you reach the peak of the Origin system.” Waving his arm, Ron spoke, “Every engraving is unique, just like each of you. The engraving on my hand is called Steel Blade, and my first ability is strengthening my arm to be as strong as steel and as sharp as a blade!”
As they listened to Ron’s explanation, a dazed expression appeared on the children’s faces. Ron had introduced them to a new world. But as for what was in the new world, that was something they had to understand themselves after obtaining Origin.
At least, they had to ignite the Tinder of Origin.
Looking at the children beneath him, Ron was like a vicious wolf luring in his prey, “You lucky fellows, if it weren’t for this training camp, you would have never had this chance in your entire lives. The first batch of Enlightenment will come in seven days, it will help all of you to awaken the hidden Origin inside all of you. But remember, this type of Enlightenment drug can only be used two to three times on the average human. Beyond this number, the neurons in your brain will die, turning you into a retard!”
Taking in a sharp breath, the children’s initial excitement was dampened by Ron’s words.
“In the following two months, you must ignite your tinders. Those who are unable to do so in sixty days, will all be eliminated!”
In these two months, the children have learned that elimination meant death. Now, only they had three chances to dope themselves in hopes of awakening and igniting their tinders within a two month time limit. The difficulty was too high for the time limit, and in two months, it was unclear how many children would be left.
But what they instinctively knew, is that that number would not be high. After all, Origin users were rare.
After this, the children resumed their strength training. From this day onwards, the training became even harder, but the standard Ron had set were always within the children’s reach. Ron’s estimations were always accurate, and he even increased the intensity for the unique children like Allen, whose training was two times harder than the rest!
