Allen slid into a well-hidden supply point he had prepared, it was an extremely inconspicuous cave that he had covered with tree leaves. After gulping down the entire supply of water, he exhaled deeply.

He was so close.

The past six months of training was enough for him to understand a person, especially someone as prideful and as impatient as Mao. His personality was painfully obvious, and so was his weaknesses. Using himself as bait, Allen used the flaws in Mao’s personality to his advantage, luring him out from his vantage point. Using the deer as a distraction, Allen could easily find an opportunity to ambush him, and even if the speed of Mao’s reaction exceeded his expectations, he was well prepared.

Allen had prepared a trap on Mao’s possible escape routes, and as he expected, Mao ran like a frightened prey. The trap he laid wasn’t deadly, but it was enough to immobilise him.

But even with all his planning, Allen’s still failed. He forgot about Mary.

Maybe it was because of her fearful behaviour, he never did consider that woman as an obstacle in this plan, and neither did he ever see her as an opponent. But now, not only did she ruin his chance, she almost took his life.

On Allen’s back was a bloody groove that was sliced open by a bullet. Thankfully, it was a superficial wound that he was able to bandage easily with strips of his uniform. Without giving himself a moment to rest, he picked up Massacre and left the supply point. He needed to kill Mao before he recovered, everything would become significantly harder if he was teamed up with Mary.

Leaving the vantage point, Allen immediately climbed onto the biggest tree he could find. And as he reached the top of the tree, he peeked his head through the thick leaves and surveyed the treetops. Wind blew through occasionally, causing the leaves to shake like waves, the entire forest was quiet. Allen wasn’t in a rush to move, instead, he patiently waited for his prey to reveal its tracks.

And not long after, a group of bird suddenly cried as they flew from the trees in the west, about half a kilometre away. A smile appeared on Allen’s face as he quickly slid down the tree, heading off towards that location.

“Fuck fuck fuck!” Mao was enraged as he leaned on the bottom of the tree, slamming the sniper in his hands onto the ground to quell his anger. He was injured, but not dead.

On his chest was a mess of blood and flesh, the result of Massacre’s slash. This was a slight shave across his skin, and if it weren’t for his timely reaction, that black blade would have probably cut him in half. Recalling the moment Allen attacked, Mao was still afraid. That slice was precise and fast, but still not sufficiently trained. If not, Mao would’ve died that instant.

Other than the injury in his chest, there were two wooden stakes still stuck in his right leg, from a trap that was undoubtedly the handiwork of Allen’s. They were deeply pierced into his calf, just shy of piercing through his flesh. Throwing the stakes aside, he quickly bandaged himself up as the pain burned through his body, causing the every nerve in the boy’s body to tremble.

Suddenly, the leaves in front of him shook, and Mao immediately aimed his gun towards it.

“Don’t shoot, it’s me.”

A quivering voice could be heard.

“Mary?” Mao watched as the girl bolted out from under the tree. Noticing the gun in her hands, the boy spoke coldly, “Stand there, don’t move.”

Mary bent forwards and placed her gun onto the ground, “Don’t be like that, Mao, I just want to help.”

“Help me? How do I know if you’re sincere?”

Mary sighed, “Listen Mao, if I wanted to hurt you, I wouldn’t have chased Allen away. We’ve already agreed that he’s the only enemy, after killing him, you only have to help me escape. It’s that simple.”

“You were the one that shot?” Allen had heard gunshots as well and he had already guessed that it was Mary’s doing, but his current condition made him extra wary.

Mary shrugged, “Who else could it be?”

Finally putting down the gun, Mao nodded. Seeing this, Mary walked over as she left her guns on the ground. Only then did the black child relax, to him, an unarmed Mary wasn’t much of a threat.

Standing beside Mao, Mary’s brows furrowed, “How’s your injury?”

“I won’t die just yet.”

“Let me see.” Squatting down, she carefully unravelled the clumsily tied bandages on his leg.

And as she did, the collar of her uniform drooped downwards, revealing her chests. As she moved, he could even see a hint of pink. Swallowing his saliva, Mao recalled his previous experiences with Mary and fire burned under his stomach as his breathing became heavier.

Mary, who had just finished bandaging his injuries, raised her head, “Alright, you…”

As she spoke, Mao reached forwards suddenly and held her face, pushing her towards the ground. Breathing heavily, he moved forwards and reached for her pants. The girl spoke softly, “What are you doing? This isn’t the time for that!”

“Shut up, you’re mine. You’ll do whatever I have you do, open your legs, I want it now!” Pulling her pants down, he thrusted forwards and entered her roughly.

The girl bit onto her lips, creating an expression that only edged the boy even more. With clumsy movements, he redirected the anger he had onto the body before him.

And unbeknownst to them, the sight of their actions was being observed by a pair of eyes.

A bright red pair of eyes.

After a few minutes, Mao’s body trembled as he grunted. And Allen, who was hiding in the grass behind them, held Massacre tightly as he planned to charge forwards. This was the moment when Mao was the most relaxed, and there was no better timing. But just before he took his first step, what he saw next stopped him in his tracks.

Mary, who was still pushed into the ground, had picked up a stake from the side and stabbed it into Mao’s throat. And then she continued stabbing him as she ignored his cries. The black body grabbed at his neck as the blood spurted out uncontrollably from the gaps between his fingers. He stared at Mary as he squeezed out a single word with his remaining strength, “Why……”

Pushing his corpse onto the ground, Mary wore her pants first before sitting back on Mao’s body, agitatedly stabbing his chest a few more times. And as she skewered his body, she screamed in hysteria, “Why? To survive! Did you really think I wanted to sleep with you? That’s for you to fall in love with my body! Did you think I wanted to escape? No! I want to survive to the very end!”

“I’m not like you two, I used the drug three times, and even if I escape, I can only live for another ten years! Only by surviving, can I get a chance at repairing my mental damage!” Her face was covered in blood, in Mao’s blood. At this moment, there wasn’t a hint of fear on her face, there was only madness: “So you have to die, all of you have to die! I’ll seduce him and kill him when he’s at his happiest, just like you!”

After piercing him once more with all her strength, she stood up. Wiping her bloodied face, she turned to pick up her pistols, but she suddenly stopped.

In front of her, Allen was staring coldly at her with Massacre in his hands.

She barely pulled the ends of her lips upwards, “You’re here? Look, I took care of him for you.”

Allen didn’t speak, but his gaze alone suffocated Mary.

She seemed terrified of his eyes as she retreated backwards, falling onto the ground. Tears flooded her face and she shook her head non-stop, “I’m begging you. I don’t want to die, I just want to leave. Look, if you keep me alive, I can make you happy.”

Taking off her uniform, she perked her chest. Her still developing body wasn’t very ample, but it was perky and had a youthful pink shade to it, “Have you touched a women before? Look, you can do whatever you want.”

Allen shook his head, “I don’t want to end up like him.”

She stiffened up instantly, “You heard?”

“What do you think?”

The girl suddenly rolled forwards as she grabbed Mao’s sniper. Aiming the muzzle at Allen, she screamed, “Yes! I want to kill you! I just want to survive, is that wrong?”

“That’s right, but unfortunately for you, I have my reasons for surviving too.”

“Just die!” She pressed the trigger.

But Allen dodged almost immediately and the bullet landed on a stick as thick as an arm, blowing it up. As per Ron’s words, the gun was a good choice when your Origin wasn’t strong enough. Their advantages were obvious, but so were their weaknesses. As long as you could avoid the gun’s line of fire, no matter how strong it was, it was useless. And just as Mary picked up the sniper, Allen had already calculated her first shot and avoided it in advance.

There was only seven meters between the two of them.

And in just a few movements, Allen closed the distance before Mary could even shoot her second shot! His body was three times better than the average human’s, and his movements resembled a panther’s as he dodged towards her left flank. There was not a hint or mercy or hesitation as the blade became a black moon-shaped arc on the girl’s neck.

Crescent Moon combined with Massacre’s sharpness sent the girl’s head flying, landing next to Mao. Staring at the headless corpse, Allen stood up as a complicated gaze flashed past in his eyes, before finally returning to calmness.

“I pity you, but I hate being lied to more!”

Leaving this sentence, the boy dragged the dadao as he left. And as the sun set, a demonic ship landed on the valley near him. Ron waved from the cabin, “Get in.”

And as the ship rose, Allen watched as the forest become smaller from the ship’s windows. As he stared, he felt as though he had left something there forever.

On the next day, Allen wore the new clothes Ron had prepared for him. Other than the same camouflage pants and singlet, there was also a black leather jacket. Half a day passed, and the barracks had welcomed winter. And when he finally woke up, he could see snow falling from the windows of the barracks.

In the snow, he could see strange coloured Origin lights dancing in the skies, it was as beautiful as the day five years before, but the boy was no longer the same boy five years ago. Six months of high intensity training had helped him grow by another five centimetres, and his once skinny body had already begun to develop its muscles, making him seem like a fifteen year boy.

The demonic ship and Ron was already waiting for him at the training grounds when he walked out of the barracks. The lieutenant waved at him, “Get on quickly, this guy will send you to District 13’s garrison base. There, someone will bring you to Babylon.”

Allen walked towards Ron and spoke, “Thank you for your guidance, lieutenant.”

“You should thank yourself. Live on, kid.” The lieutenant slapped his shoulder and pushed him onto the ship’s cabin.

And as the doors slowly closed, Ron suddenly raised his voice, “Listen well Allen, sometimes we have to let go of some things and we might even turn into demons ourselves. But don’t forget, there are some things we have to hold onto forever. If not, what’s waiting for you is the real hell!”

Hearing this, Allen paused as the door closed, isolating him from the outside world. However, a smile slowly revealed itself on Allen’s face. Ron’s words had gave a silver of warmth in his somewhat cold heart.
