Space was a type of strength.

As Allen walked onto the wide-open port, Allen understood that sentence. There were fully armored soldiers around the area maintaining order as humans walled around them, it was the residents of Babylon. These nobles stared at the arriving children with their burning gazes, cheering towards them.

A total of 22 ships arrived at the Goddess port, the largest port on Babylon was only receiving the contestants of the Death Ring today. Allen could see about twenty more children around his age arriving from the ships, and just like him, most of them were stunned by the sights before them.

However, two of the children were smiling as they waved towards the nobles of Babylon, even sending the occasional flying kiss towards them as the cheers got even louder.

Suddenly, a large shadow cast over the square, prompting Allen to raise his head. It was a large airship that carried a metal pod on the bottom of its streamline body. On the two sides of the pod was a large screen, broadcasting the welcoming sight of the Goddess Port.

“That’s the live broadcast the damned Death Ring organization committee made, ignore it. It’s always the same thing over and over again, there’s really not a hint of creativity.” Pushing Allen forwards, he spoke sweetly, “Let’s go, baby. Time waits for no one.”

At the exit of the square was a row of identical hover cars. Powered by the Demon Cube energy, it used an anti-gravity engine to move. It looked like a large dragonfly with a streamlined body, and its steering wheel resembled a ship’s, fitted with support bars, an oil baffle and a control plate at its back.

Every hovercar had two seats each, provided for the guide and the participant for their trip towards their training grounds for the next one month. Tonisev led Allen onto the car that was labeled “13”, and just as Allen was about to sit down, the lieutenant gestured for him to stand, “You need to stand up so that they can see you. Listen here babe, the competition might be slated to start in a month, but in truth, the competition between you and the other children has already started. Believe me, when I say you have to perform well. The more fans you have, the better it’ll be for you.”

The car started moving, two wings appeared from the sides of the car as the engine rumbled from underneath them. And as the anti-gravity engine was activated, the car started to float upwards, hovering over the ground by about 20cm as it started to move towards the exit of the port.

The set of cars followed the same predetermined path, and as the cars hovered in the skies, the steam-powered airship also followed behind them. On the screen was a female and a male host, and they used a humorous tone as they introduced each of the participants from the different districts. On their route, these children enjoyed the warm welcome from the nobles of Babylon.

They scream and cheered as they pointed at the passing children.

Despite Tonisev’s requests, Allen found it hard to keep a smile. After the initial shock, he realized that there wasn’t a hint of empathy in the eyes of these nobles despite their excitement. These people were looking at them as though they were rare animals. To them, they were just jesters putting on a show for them, and they were just the audience enjoying the show.

That’s right, the audience! They were simply taking a first took at the performing tools as they welcomed these land children. They probably had more affection for their pet dogs or cats, to them, these peasants from the land were nothing.

Looking at Allen’s emotionless face, Tonisev sighed.

And at this moment, the host on the airship spoke, “District 12’s Lucien is truly an ill-tempered child, let’s hope that his performance will pick up for the competition. Alright, let us look at the participant from District 14. Yes, his name is Allen…..oh, god. This is such a special child.”

The display on the ship quickly changed to the image of Allen. In the screen, Allen could be seen standing on the hovercar with an emotionless expression, the boy’s lips were pursed tightly and there was even a hint of anger in his eyes. However, the fitting garments, beautiful features, and that unique ashy silver hair still managed to please the crowd.

The host spoke, “I believe everyone has already seen our dearest, Allen. Oh god, if it weren’t for my intel confirming that he’s from District 13, I wouldn’t dare believe that this child is from the land. I’d think that he’s a young master from a high-class noble, look at his temperament, and that splendid hair color. Do you believe it? That’s he’s actually from the land?”

And as he finished his sentence, the nobles from the sides of the road started shouting.

“That’s not possible, you must have gotten it wrong. Such a beautiful child, how could he have come from that filthy place!”

“Oh god, could this be a lost young master that was left on the land?”

“The organizing committee will get to the bottom of it, the trash on the land couldn’t possibly have this noble temperament!”

And as discussions broke out amongst the crowd, screams could be heard from the ladies around him, “I love you, Allen!”

On the hovercar, Allen’s expression became even worse as he muttered under his breath, “They’re noisy.”

Hearing this, Tonisev laughed, “The noisier they are, the better it is for you, babe.”

And on the airship, the host continued, “Everyone, our little Allen also has a special story. Did you know, the serial number of his actually belongs to a fatty named Beth. But the father of this fatty had Allen replace his son and handed him over. Of course, both of them have already received their punishment. And after lieutenant Ron found out, he gave Allen a chance to leave, but our little young master chose to stay. Such impressive courage!”

The scene of the Hearn and his son’s death played on the screens as the host spoke, “Let us anticipate Allen’s future performance.”

A pocket watch landed on the smooth flooring.

In a corner of the floating island, the live broadcast was currently playing on the walls of a room, featuring Allen’s young face. Someone had paused on this frame as they stared at the child in the picture. After a while, he slumped onto the grey couch nearby.

Reaching to pick up the pocket watch, he revealed a picture within it. It was the photo of a girl no older than 13 years old, and her youthful face had a stubborn expression that resembled the expression on Allen’s.

“10? Or 11? No matter what, the time aligns. And that face, oh god…Lannie, is he your child?”

The man reached for a silver bell at his desk, and in the next moment, a butler walked in. Pointing to the screen, the man spoke, “I want this child’s paternity test!”

“With who.” The butler asked cautiously.

“Me!”

He lowered his head, “Master, the committee will not allow any outsiders to come into contact with these children.”

“I don’t care how you do it, just get it done! If not, get out!” The man roared, his tone irrefutable.

“I understand.” With a nod of his head, the butler backed out of the room.

As if he had lost all his energy, the man slumped back onto his chair as he grabbed his head, “How can it be, what if he’s truly Lannie’s child? How can I save him from that hell? I’m an idiot. If I had known that you’d be that stubborn, I wouldn’t have stopped you. At least, you’ll still be with me, Lannie, that’s my child……”

There was a pain in his eyes as he stared at the image of Allen, “God, please don’t do this to me. I’ve already lost one of my family, please don’t let me lose another one.”

Allen, on the other hand, enjoyed peace and silence as the automatic doors of the training base closed, not knowing that his appearance had brought back painful memories for someone else.

The base had about 23 floors, it was used by the participants of the Death Ring for a month for every competition. Within this month, they would undergo training by an instructor to improve their skills to increase their chances of survival.

Every floor corresponded with their respective districts, and the top floor was reserved for the staff and occasionally used to test the participants.

Allen thought that this lieutenant wasn’t that annoying as he watched Tonisev walked beautifully before him, at least compared to those Babylon residents that watched him like a circus performer. Tonisev brought him to the 13th floor, and as they walked out of the lift, the strong scent of alcohol filled his nostrils.

“I forgot to tell you, Hughton is an alcoholic.” Stepping on the flooring with his glamorous heels, Tonisev entered the password to an electrical door, revealing a wide space.

A canteen was right at the entrance where sets of rectangular tables and chairs were placed neatly next to a refrigerator and an open kitchen. Behind it was a wide-open training area, decorated with all sorts of gear. And on the south wall was even a weapons rack, filled to the brim with guns and blades.

At the end, there were a few rooms that were probably prepared for the participants and their trainers.

A man was currently asleep over a table, surrounded by empty bottles. His hand on the table was still holding an unfinished bottle that was leaking a puddle of whiskey onto the ground.

“Oh, Mr. Hughton. Damn it, general, you’re drunk again!” Tonisev shrieked as he shook that man.

That man slept like a dead pig no matter how hard Tonisev shook. With no choice, the infuriated lieutenant reached for the bottle in his hand and waved the alcohol in his face. Suddenly, the passed out man jumped up and yelled, “Damn, that smells good! Give it, give it!”

“Mr. Hughton, you’re finally awake.” Tonisev threw the bottle back to him.

That man didn’t bother to reply as he finished the bottle, only after a loud burp did he speak, “It’s you, Tonisev. Weren’t you on vacation?”

“Mr. Hughton, I had to go back on land to welcome a person. Have you forgotten that the Death Ring starts in a month?”

“Of-of course not.” The man yawned, “The committee made me a teacher for some kid in exchange for a box of Volcanic Beauty. That’s some fine wine made on Idahua planet, how could I miss it?”

“Thank god you’re still not retarded from all that drinking. Here’s the contestant you have to instruct. He’s from District 13 and his name is Allen.” Tonisev waved towards Allen.

Allen walked over.

As he did, he finally had a clear look at that man. He seemed to be about fifty years old, but Allen had never seen such a strong old man before. His face was covered with wrinkles, especially with the long years of drinking, his eye bags were even turning green. However, his body was as sturdy as a bear’s, even bigger and stronger than Ron’s. And when he stood up, he gave off the impression of a mountain as he towered over Allen, covering him with his shadow.

It was strange, Tonisev told him that this Hughton was a major general. By logic, his origin should be stronger than Ron’s, but Allen couldn’t see a hint of light from his body. Next to him, he could still see a pale green color coming from Tonisev, implying that his ability to see was still there.

“This kid? He looks okay, let me see what you’ve learned from Ron’s doghouse.” Hughton’s hand reached for Allen’s forehead.

Allen instinctively dodged, but strangely, his forehead was still easily grabbed as he felt a warmth emanating from Hughton’s palm. This old man did have origin after all, and it was extremely bright too. It resembled a sun as it rose from the man’s body, forcing Allen to shut his eyes.

“Yes, there are already four origin vortexes. That only took 4 months? As for the characteristics of your origin……it’s too weak, I can’t feel it right now. But the potential is there, wait……”

Hughton was rather quite sleepy as he spoke, but that lazy expression suddenly disappeared as his gaze became serious.

Tonisev was just beside them, and he seemed to be even more anxious than Allen. Seeing Hughton’s expression, he couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong?”

Hughton let go of Allen as a strange expression appeared on his face, “Are you sure you’ve received the right person?”

“Of course!”

“Then this kid doesn’t need me.”

“Why?” The lieutenant asked.

Hughton turned his head and spoke to the dazed Allen, “There’s a seal on his origin, you should know that anyone with a seal will never be able to create even one Gene Circuit. Even if I were to teach him, it’s still useless, participating in this competition is essentially suicide for people like him.”
