That night, a young white man woke up from a nightmare, breathing heavily as he sat on the bed, reaching out to feel around him.
The young man's hands and feet were restless, impatiently pushing the scattered items on the table to the floor, creating a loud clatter. He stumbled to the lamp and, with a sense of unease, turned it on.
The bright light instantly calmed the young man. Only then did he have the composure to look around. It was better not to look, but when he did, he was so shocked that he rolled off the bed to the floor. He shouted in astonishment, "Where am I? This is my home from thirty years ago? Oh my God!" He hurriedly got out of bed, went to the bathroom, and saw his reflection in the mirror, freezing in place.
"I am Jean, this is my younger self!"
Jean rushed out of the bathroom, came to the living room, took out his phone, checked the time, and, covering his mouth, collapsed to the ground. He held the phone trembling, tears streaming down his face.
"It's October from thirty years ago. This month, the Apocalypse descended, turning Manhattan into ruins. This month marks the beginning of all the nightmares, the prelude to the war, the start of everything. This is an era of grand upheaval. After the Apocalypse, the stage of superhuman abilities and science, robots and humans, fire and smoke, iron and blood, was set in motion!"
Jean covered his mouth, barely able to contain his excitement, "The Sentinel Massacre hasn't started yet, Skynet is still quietly in Manhattan, perhaps not even born yet. The government's foolish actions haven't begun. There's still a chance! If I can stop all this, the future apocalypse won't happen."
"At this time, I am just a carrier of the X-gene. The superhuman metal and liquid alloy technology that the Apocalypse will invent in the future haven't been created yet. I don't have superpowers, just a heart full of passion and courage, and the combat and shooting skills I honed in the future. With great power comes great responsibility. Knowing the future, I can surely destroy the Apocalypse and Skynet and save the world."
Thinking about it, Jean was filled with determination.
He began to recall the memories he knew, seemingly influenced by his return to the past. He could even remember the next few days. Those events that happened long ago were clear to him, but his memories of the moment of his rebirth were vague. Jean didn't worry about it, considering it a normal phenomenon of time reversal.
In the future, the superhuman alloy developed for Jean gave him the ability of "mental connection," a very common skill. But Jean always felt that his ability was more than that. This time, he understood that his ability should be "sensory synchronization," helping him transmit his memories and thoughts back to the past.
Jean began to seriously consider and recall.
Who is the Apocalypse? No one knows. Where did he come from? No one knows.
This person is a mystery. Jean had only heard of his legend, the Apocalypse of the end times, the devil who brought war, death, plague, and famine to humanity, the one who opened Pandora's box. After Jean awakened his superhuman ability and became a determined warrior, the Apocalypse had already disappeared, leaving only legends and, of course, Skynet.
Thinking of Skynet, Jean clenched his fists tightly. Skynet should have already been born, and he couldn't stop the Apocalypse from creating its war messengers. In the future, they once represented hope but later brought despair and pain to humanity. The Skynet nanobots—war messengers—and the Skynet combat liquid robots—terminators.
The core of the war messengers' remains is the precious superhuman metal, the weapon of the future humans.
"I need superhuman metal!" Jean resolved. "Without power, I can't change the tragic future. Whether it's Skynet or the Sentinels, I can't stop them. I must become strong and contact the X-Men." Thinking about it, Jean frowned, "Scott is not a qualified leader. His naivety and impulsiveness are not suitable for war."
"I will turn the tide, defeat the Apocalypse, and win freedom for humanity. Only I can lead the X-Men from one victory to another. Now, Skynet and the Sentinels haven't fully evolved. I know their weaknesses and can destroy them before they become powerful." Jean was full of determination. He quickly combed his thoughts and walked out of the house.
As soon as he stepped out, Jean saw the huge ruins in the distance, a city of steel standing in the center of Manhattan, with dark clouds hanging low, merging with the gray city. In the future, there would be a massive crater here, filled with a lake formed by the river, with the steel ruins at the bottom.
The Apocalypse is a sixth-level mutant, a level specifically set for him—X.
He controls gravity and is known as the "Master of Gravity" and the "King of Gravity." He is a truly invincible and terrifying opponent. Jean shuddered at the thought of the gravitational formulas he established, which are the foundation of the Apocalypse's power and wisdom. But every superhuman has suffered from his spatial mathematics.
Thinking of the complex formulas that run supercomputers and the spatial math problems and exercises that have driven superhumans to their limits, along with the calculation methods and principles of imagination, Jean, a standard bad student, a low-intelligence graduate of a community college, felt a chill.
"That's the natural fear of a slacker for a top student!"
Even though Jean had confidence, he still didn't want to oppose the Apocalypse unless absolutely necessary.
Imaginary mathematics, spatial mathematics—thinking of these terrifying, mind-bending knowledge, Jean was genuinely afraid to face him. "Right, the Apocalypse is a very patient person. He loves knowledge. These things are what he will research in the future. He probably doesn't know about them now. If I use this knowledge, I might be able to exchange it for superhuman metal."
Planning how to exchange his knowledge for superhuman metal, Jean probably didn't realize that he and a few other 'reincarnated' individuals were being tracked by Skynet.
He was enthusiastically planning his future.
"The biggest opportunity in the next few days is the Apocalypse's destruction of the Federal Reserve. The twelve Federal Reserve Banks were attacked one by one over three days, starting with New York, then Chicago, and Los Angeles. All financial data and gold reserves were destroyed, dealing an unparalleled blow to the financial industry."
"After that, the Sentinel program received funding from over a dozen banks. Was the Apocalypse intentional? In the future, the Sentinels didn't cause him any trouble, but the humans who created them had to rely on Skynet to resist?" Jean recalled the conspiracy theories popular in the future, "The Professor and the Apocalypse had a long-standing collusion, and the Sentinels grew under their indulgence."
Jean suddenly laughed, "What am I thinking? How could that be?"
Jean waved down a taxi, got in, and decided to go to the Federal Reserve Bank. In the future, there were many opportunities to take advantage of here. With some caution, he might be able to get some semi-finished superhuman metal. "Once I get it, I'll give it to Magneto. In the future, he could replicate the finished product, and it shouldn't be difficult now."
"To the Federal Reserve Bank?" Jean asked the driver.
"There are quite a few people going there today!" The driver turned the car and chatted with Jean, "My colleague just picked up a strange person, wrapped up tightly in the heat, looking like a wanted criminal. He was going to the bank, and my colleague asked him to show his ID. Do you know what he said?"
The driver answered his own question, "He said he was from the Federal Shield Agency, ha ha!"
"The Federal Shield Agency!" Jean's face turned serious, "It's the government agency responsible for major crises. This news has an unusual feel to it."
"Another passenger was also going to the Federal Reserve Bank. He was Chinese, and I saw his car, but he waved me to stop, not wanting to take his own car, preferring a taxi. Asians are strange. He wore sunglasses and didn't take them off until he got out, which was quite impolite."
"What does he look like?"
"Nothing special, small eyes, flat nose, yellow skin. You know, I can't tell the difference. Oh! He had long hair, which made him look quite distinguished."
"Does he have a special look, even behind the sunglasses, you can feel he's looking at you, with a presence that makes you recognize him in a crowd, even though he's Asian, but different from other Asians, with a unique aura that you can't forget after seeing him once?" Jean, sweating profusely, said with difficulty.
"Yes, do you know him?"
"I wish I didn't. Does he have a rose-shaped cufflink, rose gold in color?" Jean's voice trembled more and more, even making the driver feel uneasy!
"Sir, what's wrong? We're here!"
"Quick, go!" Jean grabbed his hand, anxiously urging him. Seeing the driver hesitate, he shouted again, "Hurry up!"
As he spoke, a huge alloy door crashed to the ground in front of them.
Jean saw the existence that haunts many people's nightmares walk past him and enter the Federal Reserve Bank. (To be continued.) xh123
