After Kwon Jihwan walked away, Heesun whispered in shock,

“Oh my god! You got paint in your eyes?! How did that happen?! Are you okay?”

Eunseo replied calmly, “It splattered while I was testing the sample paints. Just a little.”

Her boss did such a good job of making up a believable lie that she had no problem lying. Eunseo was surprised at herself for sounding so convincing.

Heesun replied, “Gosh, and I thought you were crying all night or something. Did you go to the hospital to get your eyes checked out?”

“It felt much better after I washed them with water. I feel better than yesterday for sure.”

“I’m so relieved. You gotta be careful, okay? You are so skinny, so if you get sick, it will be a huge problem, Eunseo.”

Heesun looked at Eunseo’s slim body and shook her head in worry.

“Of course, I’ll try to be more careful next time.”

Eunseo dropped by the convenience store on her way home after work.

Her stepmother and stepsister never ate with her. It wasn’t simply because they didn’t want to eat with Eunseo. They clearly resented seeing Eunseo eat any of “their” food. They would rather throw away any leftovers than offer them to Eunseo.

Eunseo felt so self-conscious just opening the fridge at home that she hadn’t been eating anything from home. She only entered the kitchen just to get water and nothing else.

This meant that she needed to eat all three meals outside. Eunseo skipped breakfast and ate lunch at work. For dinner, she usually bought some cheap bento boxes or instant noodles from a convenience store. It would have been nice to go into a proper restaurant to eat a nice warm meal, but she was trying her best to save up.

The only day she went to a restaurant was on her payday.

She bought two rice balls. When she returned home, she smelled something delicious from the kitchen.

“Ah, are you home, sweetie?” Her stepmother hurried out, but when she saw that it wasn’t Seyeon, she scowled.

“Gosh, why are you home so early? What about dinner?” Her stepmother asked. Eunseo knew that she didn’t ask about dinner because she cared. Eunseo also knew her stepmother wasn’t going to offer dinner either.

Eunseo replied quietly, “I ate out. I’m going to my room to rest.”

When she washed up and left the bathroom, she heard Seyeon and her stepmother in the dining room chatting quietly.

“Mom, what’s with all these snow crabs?”

“I was watching TV, and I saw that they are in season. I know you like them, Seyeon, so I ordered them this morning. Gosh, these are so expensive. They are 200 dollars for just two crabs.”

“Are you serious? Wow, that is so expensive!”

Eunseo wasn’t listening to their conversation on purpose, but they were talking so loudly. Sitting in the living room alone, she opened her rice balls and began munching on them.

Suddenly, she thought of what happened earlier at work.

‘ Why did the CEO do that for me?’

It sounded like he knew exactly what happened to her the night before. So that meant he knew about the love confession, and…

Realizing he might have seen her sob so badly, Eunseo’s face and neck turned red.

It was a surprise that her boss knew about what happened, and it was even more shocking that he got involved on purpose to help her. He always looked like he didn’t care about other people, but… Maybe he was a more caring type than she initially thought.

Eunseo found it ridiculous that she was thinking so hard about her boss now. Only yesterday, she cried her eyes out for Seo Hyungwoo, and now, she couldn’t stop thinking about another man?

To be honest, Eunseo had given up marriage a long time ago.

She suffered from a condition called galactorrhea, which was caused by an overproduction of the hormone prolactin. Prolactin was what made women produce breast milk, and it also had the function of preventing ovulation. This was why it was harder for breastfeeding women to get pregnant.

No ovulation meant no periods and this led to difficulty in getting pregnant.

There were plenty of couples nowadays who chose not to have kids. But choosing this option and not being able to have kids were two very different things.

And besides, who would want to date her anyway? A girl who dripped breast milk even though she wasn’t even pregnant? What man would ever want a gross woman like her?

After accepting this painful truth at the age of 20, Eunseo gave up on dating and marriage. Even though she has known this since she was very young, it still hurt her deeply.

If only she was normal… Then she would be able to date just like other people and…

This despairing thought made her eyes water. Unable to finish her food, Eunseo stood up and went inside her room.
