Eunseo’s stepmother turned off the heat to her room all year, so when autumn came it became pretty chilly. She took out her old sweater to wear and began reading a furniture catalog book from the partnering company.
In her head, she tried arranging different furniture in her room. She knew she would never get to live in a house that was furnished with such luxury items, but it was still fun to go wild in her imagination. It was also important to familiarize herself with these furnitures for her work.
“Mom, these crabs are so huge. We only ate one, but I’m already so full,” Seyeon said from the dining room.
“We’ll keep the rest and eat it tomorrow. It will keep just fine for a day or two,” Her step mother replied.
“Are you going to keep it in the fridge?”
“Of course. Where else will I keep it?”
“But if you do, you-know-who might…”
The two women began whispering, obviously so that Eunseo couldn’t hear their conversation. But she didn’t have to hear them know what they were talking about.
Eunseo had to try hard not to laugh. It has been years since she ate anything in this house, so how could they still worry about her stealing their food?
She took out her phone and opened the bank app again. It has become her habit to check her balance over and over again.
“Just another 5000 dollars, and…,” she mumbled.
Eunseo has already done the calculation over and over again. After paying the interest on her loan, the living expense she gave to her stepmother, and the money for food and bus fare, she was left with 1700 dollars every month. This meant that in three months, she could leave this place.
10,000 dollars.
This was the minimum deposit necessary to rent a condo near her work. The moment she saved 10,000 dollars, Eunseo was going to leave this place and never look back.

The DH private showroom was to open in one month. It was to take place in Cheongdam, which was a very posh area.
Eunseo was given the duty of designing one whole booth in the showroom. Normally, such a chance wasn’t given to a newbie like her, but one of the more experienced designers had to take a sudden leave of absence. There was no one else to take on her duty, so Eunseo was chosen for this job.
Until now, she has mostly done random errands and paperwork, so this was her first real chance to show her skills. Eunseo was excited about it.
The project she was given was to furnish a one-room condo for a single person. For the past month, Eunseo has been living and breathing this project. She went through so many different floorings and wallpapers that she memorized their product numbers by heart.
And today was the day her design was to be evaluated. In an elegant meeting room, the designers gathered together and Eunseo showed off her design.
“It’s great.”
“Yeah, I agree. Eunseo, you have a real talent.”
She had been so nervous, but the senior designers seemed to like her work. But before she could sigh in relief, someone asked her a question sharply.
It was Hong Yeri who has been working as a designer for five years at DH.
“I see that all the materials you used are from the headquarters, huh?”
Most other DH designs used materials from Korean Constructions. But this new project was supposed to be the most luxurious product of DH, which meant that the other designers ended up using foreign luxury brands.
But Eunseo’s design indeed consisted mostly of materials from the headquarters. This wasn’t intentional. She just chose the things that looked great, and at the end of it, she realized that most of the things she chose belonged to Korean Constructions.
The materials from Korean Constructions had competitive prices and comparable qualities.
Eunseo replied, “My project was to create a one-room condo for a single person. Most singles will want something affordable, so I thought this was a logical choice. And the quality of the materials I chose isn’t lower by any means.”
Eunseo was making perfect sense, but Hong Yeri refused to accept her explanation.
Hong Yeri asked, “But this is supposed to be a luxury line. So if we use those materials,s how would this be differentiated from all of our other lines?”
This seemed to confuse the other designers. They chatted.
“Actually, Yeri has a point. I mean, we’re trying to create an expensive line, right?”
“But look at Eunseo’s design! It looks elegant, doesn’t it? People don’t know what materials come from where, so what’s the problem?”
Eunseo clenched her fists under the table, her heart pounding nervously. If the senior designers didn’t select her idea, all her work and effort were going to be wasted. She would rather prefer them to ask her to start from the beginning. She didn’t want to lose this precious chance.
Eunseo was looking at the designers anxiously when Hong Yeri asked.
“Eunseo, did you do this because of that recent memo from the headquarters?”
