53.

Did Seo Hyunwoo really know anything about Eunseo like Jihwan did?

No, definitely not.

So how could Eunseo…

Suddenly, Jihwan flinched in shock.

‘Why am I so angry and upset about this?’

Why did Jihwan care if Kang Eunseo gave a gift to Seo Hyunwoo? This had nothing to do with him, right? So why was he comparing himself to Seo Hyunwoo?

Why?

The more Jihwan thought about it, the worse his headache became. He couldn’t come up with an answer, so he gave up and returned to work.

But after only a few minutes, Jihwan’s mind began to wonder again.

Did Kang Eunseo leave?

What was he going to do on Monday?

Realizing he was getting nowhere, Kwon Jihwan gritted his teeth and focused on his work. He worked and worked, not knowing how much time had passed.

When the work hour was almost over for the day, Secretary Shin knocked on the door.

“Mr. Kwon.”

Jihwan finally stretched his arms and looked away from his computer monitor. He turned toward Secretary Shin, who announced, “I have something to give you.”

When Secretary Shin handed him an orange shopping back, Jihwan stared. It looked exactly like the one he saw Eunseo was holding yesterday.

Jihwan asked, “What is this?”

“Thanks to your consideration, I have been enjoying my Chinese lessons a great deal, Sir. This year is almost over, and I really wanted to give you something to show my appreciation. I hope you like it.”

Jihwan took the shopping bag and studied it carefully. The size and the look of it… It looked the same as the one Eunseo had. Sure, it was very possible Secretary bought something from the same store, but…

Something felt off.

“Secretary Shin.” Jihwan continued to stare at the gift. Secretary Shin was about to leave when he stopped.

Jihwan asked, “So what is it?”

“Ah, you’ll know when you open,” Secretary Shin quickly replied. He smiled, but Jihwan saw that his secretary looked a little panicked.

Jihwan insisted, “But I’m curious. Please tell me.”

There was no way Secretary Shin refused to answer twice. He hesitated before stammering, “A… neck…tie?”

It was so obvious that Secretary Shin had no idea what was inside this box.

“Are you sure this is your gift for me, Mr. Shin?”

When Jihwan asked in a stern voice, Secretary Shin flinched. Jihwan’s heart began to pound faster, realizing that there was something else to this situation.

“I won’t get angry, so tell me the truth. Who gave this to you?” asked Jihwan.

“Well…” Secretary Shin hesitated for a while longer before finally giving up. “Miss Kang Eunseo asked me to give it to you. She said she bought it because she owed you a great deal, but she was afraid you might refuse it because she’s a newbie employee. She thought you might feel burdened by it, so Miss Kang asked me to give it to you and pretend it’s from you…”

Secretary Shin’s face was bright red. Even though Kang Eunseo begged him to do it, he shouldn’t have done it. Now that he was caught, it was going to make him look strange.

Secretary Shin continued, “I knew this was the wrong thing to do, so I refused Miss Kang many times, but… She insisted, so… I’m so sorry, Mr. Kwon. I apologize.”

It looked like he was about to cry. Jihwan quickly reassured him, “Don’t worry about it. You didn’t mean to lie to me, so there is no reason for you to apologize. This isn’t your fault, Mr. Shin, so you can go home now. Have a nice evening.”

“Mr. Kwon…”

“Ah, and please don’t tell Miss Kang that I know the truth.”

Secretary Shin, still looking like he wanted to cry, left. Alone now, Jihwan took out the small orange box from the shopping back and stared at it.

So… She bought this for him?

Jihwan slowly unwrapped the ribbon and opened the box. Inside, there was a black leather and silver bracelet. He stared at it for a long time before realizing the truth.

So this was for him.

Kang Eunseo didn’t buy it for that bastard Seo Hyunwoo.

Eunseo skipped lunch and didn’t get herself anything to get him this.

It was all for him and him only. Kang Eunseo bought HIM a Christmas gift, not Seo Hyunwoo.

And yet he acted like a total jerk to her…! How could he have been such an idiot?

Jihwan felt like crying, and this feeling surprised him. He should have been delighted, but instead, he felt sad. His whole body shook.

This was only a tiny bracelet, yet why…

Suddenly, Kwon Jihwan realized the truth. He felt like lightning hit him hard.

Ah, he was in love with her…

Jihwan now knew what it was that he felt for Kang Eunseo. The beautiful Christmas lights shone outside his window as he continued to stare down at the small bracelet.
