54.

Eunseo has been feeling unwell since yesterday. She felt weak and tired, and when she got home today, she felt even worse.

She wondered if this was from her heart breaking into many pieces.

Eunseo wished she could sleep in a warm bed, but it wasn’t going to happen. Her room was like an ice chamber. When she woke up the next morning, she was in very bad shape.

Eunseo was so glad that it was at least Saturday, which meant she didn’t have to work. If it was a weekday, she might have had to call in sick.

She couldn’t even get out of her bed. She couldn’t even go to the hospital let alone go to the nearby pharmacy for cold medicine. So Eunseo stayed in bed all morning.

Unfortunately, she wasn’t getting any better by the afternoon. At this rate, Eunseo realized that she was only going to get worse. She managed to drag herself out to the living room.

Her stepmother was out, probably to her vegetable store. Eunseo saw that Seyeon was in the living room watching TV.

“Seyeon, I’m really sorry, but could you go out and get me some cold medicine? I’m really sick and I can barely move,” Eunseo begged. It was been years since Eunseo asked anything from her stepsister.

But Seyeon smirked. “Why should I? You won’t even lend me your bag, so I don’t owe you anything.”

Eunseo blamed herself for this. She shouldn’t have asked Seyeon in the first place because she knew her stepsister would never do her any favors.

Without saying anything anymore, Eunseo returned to her room and to her bed. She was hungry, but if she opened the fridge, she knew Seyeon would make a big deal.

Eunseo had no one to ask for help. But for some reason, she thought of Kwon Jihwan.

Eunseo laughed at herself for being silly. Jihwan wasn’t interested in her. In fact, it looked like he was angry at her, so it was all over. It wasn’t like she could call him and ask him to get her some medicine.

But even though she told herself thousands of times that it was never going to work between them, Eunseo realized that perhaps she still thought of Jihwan as a love interest.

Scolding herself again, Eunseo put on a few more layers of sweaters and got underneath the blanket.

There was nothing else she could do.

Kwon Jihwan called Kang Eunseo a couple of times on the morning of Christmas eve, but she never answered.

There was nothing for him to do, but he felt antsy staying inside his home. Thinking he should just go work, Jihwan got dressed.

But even in his office, Jihwan couldn’t concentrate. He just kept staring at his bracelet, his brain filled with the thoughts of that woman.

Jihwan wondered what Kang Eunseo was doing right now.

Did she eat lunch yet? He would have loved to eat with her.

Jihwan was becoming more and more frustrated, but in the end, he laughed. Only a few weeks ago, Jihwan wasn’t interested in anything or anyone. His life was so boring, at least until a woman named Kang Eunseo appeared.

Ever since then, there was not a moment of dullness in his daily life. Jihwan felt so many emotions he had never truly felt before.

Happiness, anger, pleasure, and despair.

It was like riding a roller coaster.

Jihwan didn’t even last two hours at work before searching for Kang Eunseo’s home phone number. He made a call quickly.

-Hello?

A young woman answered, but it wasn’t Kang Eunseo. Was it her sister?

Jihwan asked respectfully, “I’m Kwon Jihwan from DH interior design. Is this Miss Kang Eunseo’s residence?”

Without answering his question, the young woman yelled.

-Hey, Kang Eunseo! You got a phone call! Come and get it!

Jihwan was shocked at how loudly this woman yelled. He moved the phone a little away from his ear, guessing that this had to be Eunseo’s sister.

When nothing happened, the woman yelled again.

-I said it’s a call from your work!

But Kang Eunseo never answered the phone. Soon, the same woman said to Jihwan.

-I think she’s sick, so she must be sleeping in her room.

Jihwan jumped. Eunseo’s sick?

“She’s ill? Where? Why?”

-How should I know?

It was obvious this woman, who Jihwan assumed was Eunseo’s sister, didn’t care.

“Alright.” Jihwan hung up and walked around nervously. Just how sick was Eunseo that she couldn’t even answer her phone?

And it was Christmas Eve too! How could she be sick and all alone in her home during such a joyous holiday time?

In the end, Jihwan wrote down Eunseo’s home address and headed out. When he started his car, Jihwan suddenly realized that it would be too rude to visit her right before Christmas without a present. This was especially true since Eunseo already got him something.

So Jihwan naturally headed to the department store.
