“Yes, Kang Eunseo lives here, but I asked you who you are,” asked the young woman.
“I’m Kwon Jihwan. I’m the CEO of the company DH where Miss Kang Eunseo works.”
“What?”
The door opened and a woman who looked younger than Eunseo peeked out. She asked, “You’re the CEO? Seriously?”
The woman looked at him with clear doubt. Because Kwon Jihwan was so young, this happened rather often. Instead of wasting his time explaining his situation, Jihwan handed the woman his business card.
The woman stared at the card in shock.
“Please come in!”
Before Jihwan could even respond, she grabbed the fruit and meat baskets from him and ran to the kitchen.
Her face filled with amazement, Seyeon asked, “This is crazy. So you’re really the president of DH? But why are you here?”
“My secretary has been away a lot lately, and Miss Kang Eunseo has been filling in. There was something I needed to ask her, but she wasn’t answering her phone. So I thought I would drop by to ask in person, and also see how she’s doing since you said she’s sick.”
Jihwan gave the excuse he prepared in advance. He looked around and asked, “But where is Miss Kang…?”
“She must be still sleeping. I’ll go wake her up.”
Before Jihwan could stop her, Seyeon ran to Eunseo’s room and banged on the door. She yelled, “Hey, hey! Get up! You have a guest!”
There was no answer. Seyeon banged on the door a few more times before shrugging.
“I guess she’s out cold. She isn’t waking up.”
“Then may I wait in the living room for a while?” Jihwan asked, not wanting to wake up a sick person.
“Of course. Please have a seat here.”
When Jihwan sat down on the sofa, the woman sat down next to him. Feeling uncomfortable by how close the young woman was, Jihwan moved away from her a little.
“I’m Eunseo’s younger sister. My name is Kim Seyeon.”
“Ah, I see. Nice to meet you.” Kwon Jihwan replied before pausing.
Eunseo’s last name was Kang, so why was her sister’s last name Kim?
Seyeon must have guessed what Jihwan was thinking. She quickly explained, “It’s because my mom married Eunseo’s dad later in life.”
“Ah, is that right?” Jihwan has never heard this story. He wondered what happened to Kang Eunseo’s birth mother.
“Oh, would you like some coffee?” Without waiting for Jihwan’s answer, Seyeon went to the kitchen.
While waiting for the coffee, Jihwan remained seated on the sofa and looked around. It was a tiny place, and it was filled with so many unnecessary items to make it look even smaller.
Newspapers and bottles filled the table. What shocked Jihwan the most was the fact that the dining table only had two chairs.
Just how did the people in this house eat together?
This place was nothing like Kang Eunseo’s design. She was a genius at creating a simple yet cozy place, and this was nothing like it. He would have never guessed that Eunseo lived in a place like this.
Jihwan could smell the cheap instant coffee. Seyeon brought a mug for him and he murmured, “Thank you.”
Seyeon stared as he sipped his drink. She asked, “By the way, you’re so good looking. You could be a celebrity.”
“Umm, thank you.”
Jihwan felt awkward because Seyeon continued to stare. Trying to make a conversation, he asked, “So… are you still a student?”
“No, I graduated this year, so I’m getting ready to work.”
“I see.”
“Can I drop by your work sometime so I can tour the place? I’m really interested in interior design too,” Seyeon asked suddenly.
Jihwan could tell she was trying to flirt with him, and he disliked it. There was no doubt Seyeon wasn’t related to Eunseo because they were nothing alike.
He didn’t want to be rude, so he replied, “Sure.”
“Really?! I can go? Pinky promise?!”
Jihwan flinched when Seyeon offered him her pinky. If it was any other woman, he would have ignored her completely. But… this was Kang Eunseo’s sister.
When he hesitantly pinky promised her, Seyeon clapped her hands childishly and yelled, “Yes! And you’ll buy me lunch when I go there, right?! You promised!”
No, he never promised that.
Trying to change the subject, Jihwan asked, “I guess your parents are out?”
“Ah, mom’s out. She runs a fruit store in the neighborhood.”
“Then what about your father?”
Seyeon seemed awkward when Jihwan asked about her father.
She replied, “My stepdad died when Eunseo was in university. It’s just the three of us here now.”
Jihwan was surprised. So Kang Eunseo was living with people who weren’t related to her at all?
Seyeon asked, “By the way, DH belongs to Korean Constructions, right?”
“Yes.”
“I heard that you’re the grandson of the Chairman of Korean Constructions. Is that true?”
“It is.”
“Then do you have a lot of Korean Constructions stocks too? I saw that its price went up a lot lately.”
“Not a lot. Just a little,” Jihwan answered. He couldn’t understand why this woman was asking him so many questions.
