Chapter 72

When Eunseo looked nervous, the team leader smiled and explained,

“It’s nothing bad, so no need to worry. They just wanted to thank you. Thanks to your design, their products have been selling very well. I think the department head wants to give you a bonus and probably dinner.”

“Ah…” Eunseo didn’t know how to respond, so she just bowed to everyone. “Thank you. It’s all thanks to everyone on this team. I’m so grateful.”

But for some reason, the other designers didn’t congratulate her. They didn’t even respond to her thank you. They all pretended like they didn’t hear her. They only stared down at their paperwork.

Only Park Heesun and Seo Hyunwoo seemed happy with the news.

“Good job, Eunseo!”

“Yes, you did very well.”

Then, Hong Yeri said in her sarcastic voice, “You must be very pleased about everything, Miss Kang.”

Eunseo became rigid. For a while now, Hong Yeri had been openly hostile toward her. Everyone was here now, and Eunseo decided that she needed to take care of this situation.

“What do you mean, Miss Hong?” asked Eunseo.

Hong Yeri raised her perfectly drawn eyebrows and replied, “Well, I think you know very well what I meant, Miss Kang.”

Hong Yeri grabbed her folders and stood up. She said to the other designers, “The meeting is over, right? Good job, everyone.”

One by one, everyone left the room, but Eunseo remained frozen on the spot. She had no idea why her team was treating her this way. Feeling confused and shocked, Eunseo couldn’t move.

Heesun consoled her, “Eunseo, don’t worry. I think Miss Hong is upset because her design wasn’t popular at all.”

But if this was the case, why did the other designers also act so coldly toward her?

Heesun continued, “I wanted to speak up on your behalf, but I was worried it might make things even worse. They’ll think I’m favoring you. This is normal in any workplace. Dealing with your coworkers can be tough. But it’s no big deal, so just forget about it, okay?”

Heesun’s words didn’t help Eunseo much. For a while now, Eunseo had noticed that Hong Yeri and the other designers whispered among themselves while looking at her. Now, it seemed that the only two people who were friendly to her were Heesun and Hyunwoo.

Suddenly, Eunseo’s heart fell. She wondered if people found out it was her that was making the strange noises in the washroom. She remembered how some of the women said they wanted to call the police because they thought there was a pervert in the company.

Eunseo’s hands began to shake. If they questioned her, what was she supposed to do? She would rather die than have to tell everyone about her gross illness. Eunseo bit her lips.

She was so worried that she couldn’t even eat lunch properly. Because Heesun insisted, they went to the cafeteria together, but Eunseo couldn’t eat much.

After Eunseo returned to the office, one of the designers said to her, “Miss Kang, you have a guest.”

“For me? Who?” asked Eunseo. She couldn’t think of anyone who might visit her.

The designer replied coldly, “How should I know? I asked him to wait in the reception room, so go see him.”

Eunseo headed toward the reception room in confusion. Since this was a design office, even the reception room looked fancy. Inside, a man in shabby clothes waited for her. He looked nervous.

When Eunseo saw him, she couldn’t believe her eyes.

“…Mr. Kim?” Eunseo whispered. The guest turned out to be the chief of the factory her father used to own. She remembered him well from her childhood because Mr. Kim was very kind to her when she was little.

Eunseo quickly rushed toward him. “It has been too long, Mr. Kim. Have you been well?”

She held his hands and found that they were very rough.

Mr. Kim murmured, “Oh my goodness. You used to be so small, but you’re all grown up now. What a beautiful lady you have become.”

Mr. Kim’s eyes filled with tears.

Eunseo asked, “How did you know I work here?”

“I went to your old home and saw that you still lived there. Your younger sister told me where you work, and I wanted to see it. I’m sorry if I’m bothering you,” Mr. Kim replied.

“No, not at all. It’s just lunch hour, so it’s okay,” Eunseo reassured him.

Mr. Kim looked around the place in awe. “I’ve always wondered how you’re doing, Eunseo, and I see that you’re doing very well. What a great company! I heard you’re an interior designer?”

“Yes, but I’m just a newbie.”

“I’m so proud of you, Eunseo. If your father was still alive, he would’ve been so happy.”

Eunseo felt her eyes watering from the mention of her father. Putting on a bright smile, Eunseo tried to change the subject.

“So how have you been, Mr. Kim? Is your family doing well?”
