Chapter 88
Hong Yeri glanced at the pile of shopping bags and asked Eunseo, “I’m surprised to see you here. Miss Kang. I guess you’re shopping?”
“Ah, yes.”
“Wow, you bought so much. How many shoes did you buy?” Hong Yeri asked with a smirk. One side of her lips curled up in an ugly sneer as she continued, “Well, enjoy your shopping. You should ask him to buy clothes too and not just shoes…. Or did he already buy you clothes?”
Hong Yeri was about to walk away, and Eunseo couldn’t take it anymore. Eunseo said to her, “Miss Hong, wait.”
Hong Yeri turned around and raised an eyebrow.
Eunseo continued, “I think there is a misunderstanding between us. I want to know what it is. You need to tell me so I can explain myself.”
“Misunderstanding? But I haven’t misunderstood anything.”
“Then what did you mean just now?” asked Eunseo in frustration.
Hong Yeri shrugged and pointed at the shopping bags. She accused, “All these shoes. Are you telling me that you bought them yourself, Miss Kang? It’s obvious someone bought them for you, isn’t it?”
Eunseo replied confidently, “You’re right. They are gifts. But I don’t think you have the right to scold me, Miss Hong.”
Hong Yeri sniggered. “Wow, you’re very sure of yourself, Miss Kang. How shameless.”
“Why should I be ashamed?”
“Then tell me. Who gave these to you? It’s a man, isn’t it?” Hong Yeri accused.
Eunseo hesitated. Jiye was her landlord, so Eunseo couldn’t tell Hong Yeri the truth. It wouldn’t make sense at all that her landlord would buy her all these expensive shoes. Or should she explain what happened yesterday too?
When Eunseo kept quiet because she was trying to come up with how she should explain her situation, Hong Yeri decided that Eunseo must have something to hide.
Hong Yeri asked sharply again, “I asked who gave these to you. Why can’t you answer my question? Isn’t it because you have something to hide?”
Just then, someone answered from behind Hong Yeri. “I bought them for her.”
Hong Yeri turned around and both she and Eunseo saw that Jiye was standing with her arms crossed. Eunseo had no idea how long Jiye had been standing there. Hong Yeri looked shocked as Jiye walked closer and explained, “I owe Miss Kang Eunseo a huge debt, so I gave them as a thank-you gift. Is there a problem?”
Jiye’s eyes were cold, and her smile was even colder. Hong Yeri flinched and took a step back, but she wasn’t ready to back down just yet. Hong Yeri asked Jiye sharply, “And may I ask who you are? What is your relationship with Miss Kang that you bought her such expensive gifts?”
Jiye never lost her smile. She replied, “I should be the one asking you that question. Who are you and what is your relationship with Miss Kang?”
“Miss Kang and I work in the same company. I’m a senior designer.”
“Then you’re nobody. You have no right to ask such a question.” Jiye lost her smile. She glared at Hong Yeri and asked, “What’s your name?”
Hong Yeri wasn’t obligated to answer Jiye, but Jiye had the power to command people. Hong Yeri stammered, “M…my name is Hong Yeri.”
The moment Hong Yeri gave away her name, she seemed to regret it.
Jiye murmured, “Hong Yeri… And you work in the DH design department, right? Alright, I’ll remember that.”
Eunseo wondered why Jiye wanted to remember Hong Yeri’s name. Did Jiye have a position in DH? Then suddenly, Eunseo remembered that Jiye said she knew someone in the HR department. Maybe it was someone important.
It looked like Hong Yeri guessed the same thing because she became tense.
Jiye continued, “You should know when to keep quiet.”
Jiye smiled again and ordered Hong Yeri, “Why are you still standing there? Get lost.”
Hong Yeri hurriedly ran away. Jiye grinned as she watched Hong Yeri.
Feeling guilty, Eunseo slumped and whispered, “I’m really sorry… This is all because of me…”
Eunseo felt terrible that she made Jiye go through such an unpleasant incident. She felt like this was all her fault.
Jiye tried to reassure Eunseo, “You shouldn’t apologize when you didn’t even do anything wrong. You need to be strong or else, people like her will try to intimidate you.”
“I know.” Eunseo looked up to see that Jiye was looking at her with such kind eyes.
Jiye said quietly, “If someone asks you who I am, tell them I’m your older sister.”
“Okay.” Eunseo felt happy, and this seemed to make Jiye happy too. Jiye’s eyes looked so cold when she was looking at Hong Yeri, but now, her eyes filled with affection. Jiye held Eunseo’s arm and announced, “Perfect. Now, let’s go get you some clothes!”
