Chapter 91
Jihwan shrugged and replied, “Of course. Even a dog will try to bite you if you try to take away its food. Your stepmother has been taking 700 dollars from you every month by letting you stay in that closet, so I knew she wouldn’t let you leave easily.”
Eunseo realized how naive she had been. She was almost 29 years old, yet it seemed that she knew nothing about this world.
Eunseo replied, “I’m embarrassed. I can’t even take care of my own business so I ended up inconveniencing you, Mr. Kwon.”
“Even if I didn’t come, I’m certain you would’ve been fine on your own, Miss Kang. You would’ve taken care of the situation. All I did was to make it just a little easier for you.”
“I feel like a kid all over again. It’s as if I haven’t learned anything in my life,” Eunseo whispered.
“Listen, Miss Kang. I know how hard you worked all your life. Most other people work half as much. You should be proud of yourself.”
But Eunseo couldn’t help but feel embarrassed. Jiye had told her before that she needed to toughen up and be selfish, and Eunseo could now understand that Jiye was right.
“How did you find out about the fact that this house still belonged to my father?” asked Eunseo.
“It wasn’t hard to find out. All you need is to ask for the registration form at the government office. You told me your father and your stepmother got divorced when you were little, yet when I saw the papers, I saw that the name of this house was changed only a few years ago. I thought this was strange, so I got my lawyer to look into it,” Jihwan explained. “There is no doubt that you were supposed to inherit this, so they won’t win. Those people will be out on the street in no time, so just forget about them.”
“I promise I won’t live like this anymore. I will be strong.” Eunseo sounded determined. She told herself that she would never bow down to everyone. She was going to take what was hers.
Jihwan looked at Eunseo proudly and asked, “Didn’t you say you’ll buy me dinner if I help you move, Miss Kang?”

So Eunseo spent the New Year in her new home. New Year’s Day was on Sunday, so the next Monday was a holiday too. Eunseo had four days off in a row, and she was excited.
Jihwan helped Eunseo unpack. When he saw her many shiny new shoes, Eunseo thought he might ask her about them. But he didn’t. Instead, he grumbled under his breath, “Dammit, I guess she got her shoes first before me.”
Jihwan sounded displeased.
Eunseo loved her new place. It was so much better than she ever dreamt of, but it seemed that Jihwan wasn’t satisfied with it. After unpacking everything, Jihwan looked around and muttered, “This still doesn’t feel like your home, Miss Kang.”
“And what does my house supposed to look like, Mr. Kwon?” asked Eunseo. She had never had her own home, so it was funny talking about it.
When she giggled, Jihwan replied with a smile, “Hmm… Something warmer and more comfortable, I think.”
Now that Jihwan thought about it, he remembered choosing Eunseo’s design at the showroom in the past.
Life was funny. Only a few months ago, Eunseo would have never dared to ask a question like this. But today, she got the courage.
“Mr. Kwon… Why did you hire me?” asked Eunseo. Many designers applied for the job at DH. There were three finalists at the end, and she was told it was Kang Jihwan who picked her. Jihwan wasn’t even at the interview, so he must have picked her only based on her portfolio. So did this mean Jihwan liked her designs?
Eunseo continued, “I know there were many candidates who majored in design, so why did you choose me?”
“Well…” Jihwan crossed his arms and mumbled, “Because the designs you drew were the kind of place I wanted to live in. It felt like home to me.”
Eunseo could tell Jihwan meant what he said, and his answer made her feel overjoyed.
Jihwan explained, “There were many other designers’ portfolios that suited our company better, but for some reason, I wanted to live in a place you designed, Miss Kang. I think that’s why I hired you.”
Eunseo couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Did Jihwan know that this was the biggest compliment she has ever heard in her life?
Suddenly, Eunseo asked, “Then maybe someday in the future, will you live in a home I design, Mr. Kwon?”
“Huh?!” Jihwan looked at Eunseo in surprise.
“I’ll do it for free!” Eunseo said with a smile, but Jihwan looked disappointed. He murmured, “…It’s alright.”
It was getting late and Eunseo was done unpacking, yet Jihwan wouldn’t leave.
