Chapter 6

After passing through a corridor, a commotion came from a nearby office.

“No, Marley, don’t do this!” a man shouted loudly.

Chen Hang saw that the male protagonist, Matt, was being pinned to the ground by a female zombie, narrowly avoiding being bitten several times.

Bang—

Chen Hang hurried over and shot the zombie in the head, saving Matt.

But Matt seemed to be in great pain, kneeling beside the dead zombie, looking utterly devastated.

Alice couldn't help but ask, “Who is she?”

Matt sat on the ground dejectedly, wiping away his tears, “She’s my sister.”

Alice felt a pang of sympathy and didn’t know how to comfort him.

At this moment, Chen Hang suddenly remembered that in the movie, Matt revealed his sister’s identity at this point... a member of an organization opposing the Umbrella Corporation.

He then explained how his sister infiltrated the company and her purpose for doing so.

Her goal, like Chen Hang’s, was to obtain the T-virus.

Of course, relying on his sister alone, she couldn’t steal the virus. She had an inside contact!

This contact was Alice.

However, because Spence overheard Alice’s secret conversation with Matt’s sister, he stole the virus early, causing it to leak and leading to the death of Matt’s sister.

Spence was the root cause of all this!

And Alice, remembering this, eventually broke ties with Spence and became his enemy!

Thinking of this, Chen Hang broke out in a cold sweat.

Seeing that Matt was about to start revealing the truth, Chen Hang quickly interrupted, “This place isn’t safe. Let’s talk once we’ve escaped.”

Rebuked by Chen Hang, Matt didn’t say more, nodding in agreement.

“Let’s go, we need to find them.”

Chen Hang breathed a sigh of relief, thinking that he would keep the secret for as long as possible, and deal with it when it couldn’t be hidden anymore.

With Chen Hang leading the way, the three decided to regroup with the scattered mercenaries.

Chen Hang knew that at this point, there should still be two surviving mercenaries.

Kaplan and Raine!

They were hiding in the control room next to the central computer.

The three prepared to leave and head towards the central computer.

Woo... woo—

A group of zombies discovered them, growling and surging forward.

“Hurry!”

Zombies, aside from their terrifying appearance, weren’t actually that scary.

They moved slowly, and as long as they weren’t surrounded, they posed no real threat.

Chen Hang killed a dozen or so zombies, and the three reached the central computer control room without much trouble.

“Thank goodness you’re still alive.”

Kaplan’s face was pale, clearly shaken.

Matt, having learned of his sister’s death, wanted to leave: “Hurry, let’s get out of this cursed place.”

“I’m afraid that’s not possible!” Kaplan said with a grim face. “The exit has been blocked by those monsters. We have no way out.”

“So we just wait here?”

Matt suddenly asked Kaplan, “Right, if someone hears our call, they’ll send a rescue team or someone else, right?”

But Kaplan and Raine remained silent, not saying a word for a long time!

“What? Did I say something wrong?”

Seeing their expressions, Matt felt a sense of foreboding.

“We don’t have much time left!”

Kaplan swallowed hard, delivering a grim message: “The Hive’s main door will close in one hour. If we don’t escape before then, they’ll seal it off.”

Upon hearing this, the atmosphere grew heavy.

Matt couldn’t believe it. “What are you saying? They can’t bury us here!!!”

Raine’s face was also very pale, especially her eyes, which had dark circles and a vacant look.

Chen Hang knew that the T-virus in her body was starting to take effect.

It wouldn’t be long before she turned into a zombie.

Sitting on the ground, Raine said, “To prevent the company’s secrets from leaking, this is the only insurance measure.”

Chen Hang saw a bag on the ground and knew it contained the device to restart Red Queen. Without hesitation, he picked it up.

Kaplan, seeing this, quickly asked, “Hey, what are you doing?”

“Restarting Red Queen.” Chen Hang didn’t look back.

“You can’t do that!” Kaplan said, rushing over to stop him.

But Alice raised her gun, pointing it at Kaplan’s head, making him pause.

Chen Hang was overjoyed!

Although he had never been in a relationship, this didn’t mean he was stupid. Alice’s protective behavior clearly showed she had a good impression of him.

Chen Hang, though happy inside, maintained a calm demeanor and explained, “In a place like this, there must be an emergency escape route, and only Red Queen knows it!”

Kaplan retorted, “That’s just your guess!”

Chen Hang sneered, “Do you have a better plan?”

Kaplan was speechless, falling silent.

The group approached the central computer, and Chen Hang installed the device to restart Red Queen.

Soon, Red Queen’s distinctive clear voice came from the speakers: “Ah, so you’re here.”

Red Queen, being a top-tier intelligent system, even had human-like emotions.

She said smugly, “I told you that shutting me down would have dire consequences, but you didn’t listen!”

Hearing Red Queen’s smug tone, Raine, thinking of her dead teammates, felt a surge of anger.

“Bastard, give me the remote, I’m going to burn this bitch to a crisp.”

It took several people to calm her down.

Red Queen’s voice continued, “Didn’t I warn you? It’s your own fault for not heeding my advice!”

Kaplan asked, “What’s going on down there?”

“Research and development!”

Matt, remembering the T-virus data he saw in his sister’s office, asked, “What is the T-virus?”

“The T-virus is a significant breakthrough in medical research. It’s not only a medicine but also a valuable military weapon.”

Kaplan asked, “Why did the Hive’s researchers turn into those monsters outside?”

“Even after death, their bodies remain alive for a short time. Their hair and nails continue to grow, and their cells metabolize. The brain still maintains a small electrical charge, which only disappears after several months!”

Red Queen continued, “The T-virus can generate powerful vibrations to maintain cell growth and provide electrical impulses. In short, it can bring the dead back to life!”

Hearing this, everyone was stunned.

Raine couldn’t believe it. “Back to life?”

Red Queen explained, “Not fully. They only have basic motor skills and possibly some memory. Theoretically, they have no intelligence. They are driven by basic neural impulses... and instinctive needs!”

Kaplan couldn’t help but ask, “What kind of instincts?”

“Satisfying their hunger!”

Hearing this, thinking of his partner “Jed” being bitten to death by a zombie, Kaplan’s face turned grim.

Raine clenched her teeth and asked, “How do we kill them?”

“Severing the top of the spine or a heavy blow to the brain is the most effective method.”

Raine, understanding, asked, “You mean... blow their heads off?”

“Yes!”

Matt, thinking of his sister, asked sadly, “Why did you kill everyone below?”

“The T-virus leaked unexpectedly, spreading through the air conditioning vents. It has evolved from a liquid to a gas, now spreading through the blood and adapting to the environment. It’s become impossible to eliminate, and I can’t let it spread outside the Hive.”

“So... I took necessary measures.”

Red Queen’s voice was cold, as if the hundreds of lives lost meant nothing to her.

“Necessary measures!!!” Matt, thinking of his sister’s tragic death, demanded.

Red Queen explained, “You must understand that if the T-virus leaks, the consequences are unimaginable. I will not let anyone infected leave.”

“Wait!” Kaplan shouted, “We’re not infected!”

“Even a small scratch is enough to infect you... and your fate will be the same as theirs!”

Upon hearing this, everyone’s faces changed, and they all looked at Raine.

Raine, clenching her teeth, looked at her bitten left hand, her face turning pale.

“I’ve detected that a circuit breaker in my system has been turned off. Why is that?”

Chen Hang said calmly, “To prevent you from disobeying, I can control you. Understand? Now, I need a way out of here.”
