Chapter 4

Lin Fei, who had been lying on the ground, moved his head and sat up.

Crack! The silver mask on his face shattered into two halves and fell to the ground. At this moment, a large light sphere created by a light-element user was floating in the sky, illuminating the battle area.

The light shone on Lin Fei's face, and the investigators noticed that although the mask on his face was broken, there was another mask underneath. This mask was made of ice, and it emitted a thin white cold mist.

"How is this possible?" The investigators had a thought, but quickly dismissed it. However, the following events proved their guess was correct.

"Fortunately, I used ice to make a mask in time, or I would have been exposed. I didn't expect this woman to be so beautiful and so powerful. Luckily, I am stronger than her, or I might have been in trouble tonight," Lin Fei thought. The mask, as the investigators guessed, was made by Lin Fei using his ice-element ability, which was his fourth awakened ability.

Ice and Fire: Simultaneously controlling ice and fire, elementalizing the body.

"Wow, you really hit hard! If you keep this up, you might not find a boyfriend," Lin Fei said, pinching his shoulder as he got up.

"This guy must have the courage of a lion! He actually said this in front of the director."

Xie Yurong didn't get angry at Lin Fei's words; instead, she stared at the ice mask on his face.

"Is this the reason for your confidence?" she thought. "Things are different now; more people will awaken multiple abilities in the future."

"What?" Lin Fei didn't react immediately.

To verify her guess, Xie Yurong instantly transformed into a 5-meter-tall elemental giant and attacked Lin Fei.

Seeing this, Lin Fei emitted a large amount of cold mist, transforming into a 5-meter-tall ice man and shooting a large number of ice pillars at Xie Yurong.

This transformation immediately confirmed everyone's guess: "He has indeed awakened two abilities and is the ninth dual-ability user discovered so far."

A large number of ice pillars hit Xie Yurong, but she melted them one by one. However, her flames weakened.

The ice and fire collided, producing a large amount of steam that obscured everyone's view.

As the steam spread, a gentle breeze blew, dispersing most of the steam.

"If you stop resisting now and come with us for an investigation, I can overlook your past actions. After the investigation, if you are indeed innocent, I can recommend you to join our Ninth Bureau. What do you think?" Xie Yurong said.

"Thank you for your kindness, but I don't like trouble and don't like being constrained. So I won't join you," Lin Fei replied.

"Then I have no choice but to forcibly take you back for an investigation."

"I'm just passing by, and I've already told you I'm not with them. Why are you still trying to catch me? And are you so confident you can catch me?"

In response, a large fireball the size of a basin was thrown at Lin Fei.

Bang! Lin Fei casually punched the fireball, causing it to explode. Then Xie Yurong quickly charged at him.

"This woman is really persistent. Spatial teleportation is available again; I won't tangle with her anymore. Her reinforcements should be coming soon. If I accidentally hurt them, I don't want to be charged with assaulting a police officer," Lin Fei thought.

"Ice and Snow" Lin Fei whispered.

A strong spiritual energy fluctuation burst from Lin Fei, and the investigators saw a crystalline ice explosion centered on him, which quickly spread outward.

"Quickly retreat!" Xie Yurong stopped her attack and turned to order the surrounding investigators to retreat.

The ice first froze the nearby small forest and then spread toward Xie Yurong. Seeing this, she spread her arms, and intense and scorching flames burst from her body, colliding fiercely with the spreading ice.

This was a battle of ice and fire. A large amount of ice was melted into water, which was instantly evaporated into steam. The scalding steam rose into the sky, fortunately not toward the crowd, or it would have caused many injuries.

The power struggle didn't last long. After just a few seconds, Xie Yurong noticed that the spiritual energy fluctuation from the other side had disappeared.

"Damn!" Xie Yurong exclaimed. The flames intensified, quickly evaporating the remaining ice.

The ice disappeared, and so did Lin Fei's figure.

After a while, the investigators, who had moved away from the battlefield, noticed no more spiritual energy fluctuations and assumed Xie Yurong had subdued the masked man. They approached her. The battlefield was in chaos, with fallen trees and scorched ground, indicating the intensity of the battle.

"Director, are you okay?" the leader of the first group asked.

"I'm fine, but he escaped. Clean up here, and I'll head back to the bureau. I need to report this masked man to the higher-ups," Xie Yurong said.

In the living room of Lin Fei's home, a spiritual energy fluctuation flashed, and Lin Fei appeared.

"Phew, finally back. Home is still the best. It's rare to go out and run into investigators on duty. My luck is really bad.

But that woman is really strong. I was completely overpowered in close combat. If it weren't for my strong physical condition, I would have been taken down in a few moves. Most people would have been finished off by her. After all, her strength is quite rare.

If I hadn't held back, I could have easily defeated her. It seems I am indeed a master," Lin Fei thought happily.

In the office of the Ninth Bureau of the Rongcheng Ability Management Bureau.

"Minister, that person indeed used two abilities, ice and fire, and they displayed great power. In the end, he disappeared from my perception using some unknown method," Xie Yurong said.

"Hmm, based on your description, we can preliminarily determine that this man is not a member of Greedy Wolf. Otherwise, with his strength, he wouldn't have just escaped.

He can be considered the ninth dual-ability user discovered in the world. Since the birth of spiritual energy over 60 years ago and the first spiritual energy outbreak 40 years ago, the number of people with abilities has gradually increased. Initially, it was thought that a person could only have one ability, but last year, the second spiritual energy outbreak occurred, and the global spiritual energy concentration rapidly increased, leading to some ability users awakening a second ability.

However, these are just the ones that have been discovered. There are likely many more who have awakened but are hiding for various reasons.

In a few days, the government will make a statement on TV, hoping that those who have awakened a second ability will register with the government and not hide or engage in illegal activities.

You should investigate in the city and see if you can find the masked man you encountered tonight. He doesn't seem to have malicious intent. Find him, approach him, and show him goodwill. These are troubled times, and see if you can persuade him to join us."

"Yes, Minister."

After hanging up the phone, Xie Yurong sat in her office chair, closed her eyes, and thought deeply. Although the minister said to persuade him to join, Xie Yurong felt the chances were slim.

After taking a shower, it was past 2 a.m. Lin Fei lay in bed, thinking about the day's events, and slowly fell asleep.
