Chapter 25: Sending betrothal gifts

Peng Ci hopped back and forth in An Xingzhou’s arms, its little pawsies stepping on An Xingzhou’s thighs as it used its body language to express how excited it was at the moment.

‘There are five zeros! One more than Wife wanted! If the balance on the other cards is added, it’s possible that there won’t be just one more! I can give Wife betrothal gifts!’

Peng Ci’s happiness showed in its words and actions. It rubbed its little head against An Xingzhou’s unmoving hand, which was holding the phone, hurriedly saying, “Wife! Hurry and check the other cards!”

An Xingzhou was currently going through the baptism of a nouveau riche.

“Yeah!” Peng Ci tugged An Xingzhou’s hand and peered at the app An Xingzhou was just using. After shaking its head and thinking for a while, it said, “Yeah! I remember that this card has the least amount of money! Because I thought that their card was ugly!”

An Xingzhou: “……”

An Xingzhou’s eyes shook, and his heart trembled along with his hands.

His legs trembled, like he’d stepped on a sewing machine with automatically generated power for operation. Even his voice quivered as he asked, “T-then… which card has the most money?”

Peng Ci didn’t remember. Nouveau riche never remembered the remaining balance of their bank cards, just like how the landowners of a certain mysterious district never remembered how many houses they owned.

Peng Ci leaned over and looked closely at those cards for a while. Suddenly, it reached out and patted a certain card. “It’s probably this one! I think this one is the best-looking! So I deposited all my money in here!”

So impulsive. An Xingzhou thought with tears rolling down his face ‘I want to be that impulsive too, but I’m not worthy. This is probably the impulsiveness reserved exclusively to nouveau riche.’

Peng Ci glanced at An Xingzhou, just thinking that Wife was really stwange!

What did his expression mean?! He didn’t look like he was happy, but he didn’t look sad either!

If Peng Ci had surfed the Internet more, then it would’ve understood that this expression was known as being salty.

But Peng Ci was just a little bunny bun. How would Ci Ci understand how salty humans felt when seeing a nouveau riche?

“Wife?” Peng Ci patted An Xingzhou. “Hurry and check! Check how many zeros there are!”

An Xingzhou hated himself for bringing up how many zeros there were, but he couldn’t resist because he was really curious how much this rabbit could have exactly!

He gritted his teeth and hardened his heart before clicking the banking app that Peng Ci said had the most money with trembling fingers. He entered the password, clicked on “Check your balance”, and couldn’t resist shutting his eyes in the two seconds of loading.

Sorry, he really didn’t have the courage to look. He was too salty.

His previous mocking of Peng Ci came back as a slap on the face that was as painful as how harsh his mocking was. An Xingzhou was willing to proclaim himself the “first to reverse freeload.”

An Xingzhou shut his eyes and forcibly pretended to be chill, but Peng Ci didn’t know how he felt.

It squatted in An Xingzhou’s embrace and looked at the remaining balance with its eyes wide open. Then it started counting. “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6! Wife! Help me count! Are there six zeros?!”

An Xingzhou: “……”

An Xingzhou suddenly opened his eyes, his voice cracking from the shock. “What did you say?! How many zeros?!”

“Six!” Peng Ci turned and caught An Xingzhou’s clothes, jumping onto An Xingzhou’s shoulder after rubbing against An Xingzhou. It affectionately rubbed against An Xingzhou’s side profile and then licked An Xingzhou’s chin. “Wife! I can give you betrothal gifts!”

An Xingzhou’s entire body was numb as he woodenly rubbed Peng Ci. He just felt like every strand of Peng Ci’s fur was emitting golden light, its entire body smelling of money.

Would you believe that this was a rabbit with millions of yuan 1 ?

An Xingzhou didn’t believe it.

An Xingzhou held Peng Ci’s phone and carefully confirmed the banking app and then the bank card. He carefully looked over each printed character before confirming that it was really a bank card humans used, and not a pirated bank card the demons created.

So the remaining balance was real money…… and not some teeny amount.

Peng Ci squatted on An Xingzhou’s shoulder and tilted its head to watch An Xingzhou’s movements. Then it licked An Xingzhou’s ears, calling him childishly. It waited until An Xingzhou recovered to say, “Wife, stop looking at it! It’s all yours! It’s Ci Ci’s present for Wife!”

An Xingzhou had just recovered from the shock of seeing a huge sum of money with difficulty, when he was caught off guard and heard Peng Ci’s pure-intentioned words. He was silent for a few seconds before he put the phone and bank cards to the side, pulling Peng Ci down from his neck.

“Ci Ci……” An Xingzhou put Peng Ci on his knee, the human and rabbit seated across from each other.

He held onto Peng Ci’s back to keep Peng Ci from accidentally falling off of his knee from suddenly making some big movement.

“I don’t want your money,” An Xingzhou said. “You have to take good care of your things, okay? Don’t get some random human or demon to check your remaining balance for you, and definitely don’t say how many zeros you have in your cards.”

Peng Ci tilted its head, asking, “Why?”

An Xingzhou pinched Peng Ci’s cheeks and thought about it, but he didn’t say the reason in the end.

Peng Ci was too pure and too well-behaved.

It was completely muddle-headed. It didn’t know him at all but tumbled into his embrace because of a single glance, even daring to speak the human language on the first day. Now, it was even showing an amount of money that the average person would grow green with envy over without the slightest concealment. It didn’t have any sense of wariness and gave him the password directly, saying it would give all the money to him.

Behind his shock, An Xingzhou’s heart had melted into a puddle.

This rabbit treated him sincerely, so he naturally wanted to protect it too.

This world had nice places as well as bad places. Since he decided to raise Peng Ci, then he would keep all the bad things out of Peng Ci’s view until it took the initiative to leave, letting it continue to be a dumb little bunny.

An Xingzhou flipped Peng Ci over, letting it lie on its thigh with its stomach facing upwards. He rubbed Peng Ci’s stomach, saying, “No reason. Just listen to me.”

“Zzz…” Peng Ci snored from An Xingzhou’s rubbing and nodded blearily. “Okie. Ci Ci listens to Wife the best……”

Peng Ci suddenly stopped while talking. Its bleary eyes cleared up for a moment, and it said, “Wait, I still have to give the money to Wife! Wife promised to go public with me!”

An Xingzhou: “…..”

He was done for. He completely forgot about that!

Peng Ci pressed, “When will Wife go public with Ci Ci?! Will Ci Ci appear on camera?! Can Ci Ci wear that rose cape and appear on camera?!”

An Xingzhou had a bit of a headache, but Peng Ci had clearly firmly remembered this matter. He probably wouldn’t be able to trick it, so he could only say, “Humans and rabbits can’t date or get marriage, you know? We’re of different species…”

“But Wife already married me! I even sent the betrothal gifts! And I can become human in the future too!” Peng Ci was foolish, but its thoughts were straightforward through and through, making An Xingzhou go around in circles instead.

Its nose twitched and turned to kick away An Xingzhou’s hand, crying, “Sob Sob… So Wife was lying to me…”

But he couldn’t say it out loud, or else Peng Ci might cry even more.

He hesitated but then suddenly remembered that recently there was an annoying fan that kept crowding his DMs to express their affection, who even sent some nonsensical photos, and he got a flash of inspiration. He might as well put an end to that kind of pestering with Peng Ci!

‘I really am an ordinary genius at coaxing rabbits.’

An Xingzhou poked Peng Ci, saying quietly, “You can’t appear on camera, but I’ll go public with you when I’m gaming. Is that okay?”

Peng Ci: “!”

Peng Ci turned around suddenly and yelled, “Okay!”
