Chapter 12: Sick Cat
Meng Baiqing never thought that Yu Linfei would raise a cat.
In his opinion, Yu Linfei was so busy, where would he find the time and energy to keep a pet? More importantly, he told Yu Linfei that he’d like to have a dog at home in the future.
For these reasons, Meng Baiqing’s first reaction to seeing Wen Cheng was, is this a wild cat? Of course, he quickly dismissed the idea as he thought of the food tray in the corner of the kitchen.
“… He really has a cat.” With a sneer curling the corners of his mouth, Meng Baiqing headed towards Wen Cheng to catch him.
But how could Wen Cheng let Meng Baiqing do what he wanted so easily? What Qin Xin did to him made him wary of the people around Yu Linfei, let alone encountering someone with a bad character like Meng Baiqing.
Simply catching a cat wasn’t easy at all. The agile feline jumped to escape Meng Baiqing’s stretched out hand and easily escaped under the sofa.
Meng Baiqing currently wasn’t interested in dealing with a cat for so long, but could he just let this cat go? His eyes swept up to the phone on the table with the receiver lifted off it, and his face went pale.
Picking up the receiver, Meng Baiqing took a deep breath and very cautiously pressed the redial key. When he saw the caller ID, a chill went through Meng Baiqing’s heart… How could this cat call Yu Linfei?? Was this a cat or a monster??
From beneath the sofa, he could only see the bottom of Meng Baiqing’s feet. Wen Cheng didn’t know what he’d done, but he was still paying close attention to Meng Baiqing’s movements. Meng Baiqing seemed to have given up on catching Wen Cheng and gone elsewhere.
Just when Wen Cheng thought Meng Baiqing was going to leave and was about to feel relieved, cold water suddenly poured in from the sofa crack towards Wen Cheng.
“Meow!” Wen Cheng yowled miserably as the cold water suddenly splashed on him. It was snowing outside, so how hot could the water from the tap water pipes be? He jumped up, startled by the cold water.
“Hahaha, damn cat, didn’t you call Yu Linfei? Do you think I can’t get to you while you’re hiding under the sofa? What a joke! I’m leaving now, and you can just stay under that sofa and wait for death!” The voice was brimming with unspeakable bitterness; Meng Baiqing seemed to want to vent all the gloominess caused by Yu Linfei onto Wen Cheng. His voice was pointed and sharp, completely unlike the sweetness and warmth he’d heard in the past.
… This was Meng Baiqing’s true face, wasn’t it? Wen Cheng’s whole body was shaking, but he was still thinking that Yu Linfei’s eyes were really bad. Can’t even see through such a person, really a blind dog… (1)
Meng Baiqing didn’t plan to stay long. He knew that if Yu Linfei came back and saw him there, he certainly wouldn’t give him a good look, but what could Yu Linfei do to him? Sneering, he began to clean up the water under the sofa with a mop. He believed that Yu Linfei would come back to him. It was just a moment of anger, how long could it last?
With such thoughts, Meng Baiqing left before Yu Linfei came home, leaving Wen Cheng to tremble in a shrunken ball underneath the sofa.
As Yu Linfei was afraid that a low temperature wouldn’t be good for the cat’s health, he turned on the heating in his home before he left, but Meng Baiqing turned the heating off and opened the previously closed windows before departing. He didn’t want the annoying cat to get better. If he wanted to accomplish something, he’d do his best at it, that had always been his motto.
Consequently, this pathetic Wen Cheng was not only drenched in cold water, but the heating in the room had also been turned off. If he hadn’t been smart enough to call Yu Linfei first, he could’ve died under the sofa.
What a disaster it was… The concept of time had solidified for Wen Cheng, and he didn’t know how long it’d been. Just as Wen Cheng thought he was going to freeze to death, a familiar cry sounded in the house.
“Little Black? Where are you, Little Black?” Once he got home, Yu Linfei knew something had happened. The moment he opened the door, there was no heat at all, and the temperature of the whole house was extremely cold. Yu Linfei frowned and looked at the turned off heat and the open windows, snowflakes floating into the room. Furthermore, the majority of the ground looked dry, but there were… water spots… yes? Water spots? Yu Linfei’s face turned black, and he quickly knelt on the ground and looked into the gap under the sofa.
“Little Black!!!” From the gap under the sofa, he could only vaguely see part of Wen Cheng, but it made Yu Linfei’s heart lift as he quickly cried, “Little Black, come out!! Little Black!!”
He’s calling me…? Though Wen Cheng’s mind felt muddled, he began struggling to walk towards Yi Linfei with stumbling footsteps. When he finally got out from under the sofa, a pair of warm hands lifted the frozen stiff Wen Cheng and held him firmly in his arms.
“Fuck!!” Though he rarely cursed, Yu Linfei looked at his cat’s originally lively figure that had met something and turned into this without him knowing and felt so angry he was about to go crazy.
But he didn’t rush to find out who’d entered his house. His first priority was to… warm Little Black up.
Yu Linfei hurriedly found a clean towel in the bathroom and wiped away the water on Wen Cheng’s body, also turning on the heat. Seeing Wen Cheng’s weak appearance, he felt extremely conflicted. For him too encounter such a thing in his home… his owner was too incompetent.
“Meowu…” After breathing slowly, Wen Cheng felt a little more energy. He mewed** faintly as he was held firmly in Yu Linfei’s arms, feeling Yu Linfei’s temperature spreading to him through the thin shirt.
“Little Black, who bullied you?” Even though he knew his cat couldn’t answer, he couldn’t help but ask. Yu Linfei’s brow furrowed tightly and his voice was extremely cold, “Wait for your gege to find that person and take revenge, okay?”
Wen Cheng didn’t have the energy to deal with Yu Linfei. He’d been under the sofa for a while, and he was so cold that he really thought he was going to die under there… But unexpectedly, when he thought he was about to die, Yu Linfei came back.
The moment that he was held in Yu Linfei’s arms, he felt wronged and wanted to cry. He blamed Yu Linfei, this son of a bitch, for attracting bees and butterflies all day long. If it weren’t for him, he wouldn’t have died nor would he have met such things! It was too much!!
Seeing the expression of grievances and plain unhappiness in Wen Cheng’s golden eyes, Yu Linfei’s heart went soft. He kept comforting Wen Cheng and lifted him in his arms, going to the kitchen to get him some warm milk to drink.
Wen Cheng remained motionless in Yu Linfei’s embrace until the fragrant scent of milk wafted into his nose, making him meow.
Pouring the warm milk into the bowl, Yu Linfei brought the bowl directly to Wen Cheng’s face.
The milk was licked up with a “pata pata” (2). The warm milk seemed to warm the stiff body from the inside out, and the tense nerves of Wen Cheng began to relax a little. He resentfully rubbed the milk stuck to his mouth on Yu Linfei’s clothes, then satisfactorily dozed off.
Looking at Wen Cheng’s grumpy action, Yu Linfei put Wen Cheng lightly down onto the pre-warmed bed.
When he saw that Wen Cheng was all settled by himself, Yu Linfei turned his attention to the intruder. He went to his study and turned on his computer, then clicked on a particular software…
In fact, Yu Linfei had installed surveillance in his home.
He wasn’t abnormal or anything, because for some time, he’d been constantly losing things. Although the lost documents were all unimportant, it was enough to put Yu Linfei on alert… However, the surveillance didn’t catch the thief once it was installed. Instead, it caught the cheating Meng Baiqing.
Seeing his lover unrestrainedly calling out on his bed as he was fucked, it was really difficult to describe Yu Linfei’s mood… In fact, he wanted to say to Meng Baiqing that since he wanted to cheat, he could’ve been a little more professional…
Opening the video from today, Yu Linfei began to carefully watch it.
… Alright, the first thing he saw wasn’t the person who bullied Wen Cheng, but the naughty figure of his own cat. Watching him suffer untold hardships to open the refrigerator and steal food, Yu Linfei laughed in a good mood. This cat was really not an ordinary kind of naughty, the funny thing was… he had a sly look on whenever he did something bad.
It seemed that his cat really was a monster with such a strange expression. Yu Linfei then saw someone open the door… it was Meng Baiqing.
Taking in Meng Baiqing’s actions of entering his study to copy things, Yu Linfei was suddenly frightened… Of course, it wasn’t Meng Baiqing’s movements that scared him, but… his cat was using his phone.
Was the cat on the phone? He watched the video repeatedly and found that he wasn’t experiencing any hallucinations. It was hard for Yu Linfei to describe his complicated mood. You say that the cat made a call, but then… how did he know how to call Yu Linfei?
However, this strange mood was soon doused by what happened next. Yu Linfei watched Meng Baiqing pour cold water on Wen Cheng hiding under the sofa. He watched him turn off the heat and open the closed windows to let the cold wind in. Yu Linfei’s face was very calm, really good… Unconsciously squeezing the pen in his hand, he thought with a cold laugh, Meng Baiqing, this kind of putting one’s nose above your face (3), only a rotten product like you could do it.
But it also dispelled one of Yu Linfei’s concerns… It seems that his cat really wasn’t a cat demon. If it was a monster, could it be bullied by Meng Baiqing? He would just be slapped to death!
Ai, if it was a monster… it actually wouldn’t be that bad… Not realizing that his thoughts had fallen into a strange and vicious circle…Yu Linfei propped up his chin and thought that if there was a lover like Little Black who was foolish, silly, and tsundere, it seems that… it’d be pretty good?
But before he could think any more, Yu Linfei was disturbed by a meow from the bedroom. He walked to the bedroom in a few steps and saw Wen Cheng, who’d woken up some unknown time ago. He was standing beside the bed, his little body shaking, spitting up all the milk he’d just drunk!

Translator Notes: What do many Asian people and cats have in common?
Thank you to Aylik for editing ❤
1. Fairly self-explanatory, but the phrase is often used specifically for people that can’t see other’s true colors and are easily deceived.
2. “啪嗒”Onomatopoeia for sound of something falling, hitting, or licking in this case.
3. “蹬鼻子上脸”Ok, I’m not sure I translated this correctly, but the basic meaning is taking advantage of someone’s kindness/weakness. A more detailed explanation is party A gives face to party B by not caring about party B’s weirdness, but party B is not only ungrateful but grows more arrogant. Kinda similar to give an inch and they’ll take a mile, which kinda explains the nose being put above the face thing. Sorry for the badly worded explanation!
