Chapter 28 : Adventurer Gamdon

「This is the place.」

The place where Heidar led us to was an old house beyond the deserted alley.

There was a signboard-like board leaned on its wall.

This signboard might be used to be placed on top of the building’s door but, it seems to be removed after so much time passes.

Since its coating has long since been peeled off, I had no idea what was written on there.

「It’s an old bar. Now it’s turned into a gathering place of old acquaintances to drink in moderation.」

… And now, it became the gathering place of the adventurers to concoct a plan behind the army’s back.

I looked at Edda who became as obedient as Nyarm(cat beast), urging her to move forward.

Edda approached my back in silence.

「… There’s a lot of people inside, are you okay with it, red-eyed missy?」

Though Heidar might be trying to give some consideration to the shy Edda, said person herself frowned upon hearing that.

Edda poked my side with her elbow, and then whispered to me.

「Just how far is he going to look down on me? Dean, go and tell that man that I… am just being careful around strangers.」

… And why did you ask me to tell him that?

「Could it be that you actually hate Heidar-san?」

「He’s not my acquaintance, he is your acquaintance. It’ll sound natural if you talk with him.」

「No, he spoke to you too, right?.」

Heidar stood in front of the disconnected door with a bitter smile on his face, and then knocked on the door.

「It’s me. I brought along two adventurers who we can trust with me too.」

Then, a man in his prime with a sullen face appeared from behind the door.

That man then heaved a sigh upon looking at Edda and I before he looked at Heidar with dubious look on his face.

「… Just when I thought Heidar would bring famous adventurers with him, it turned out to be greenhorn adventurers, and two of them on top of that.」

Heidar stood by my side as he patted my shoulder.

「It’s okay. I can assure you that this one is stronger than me.」

「N-No way, such evaluation is…!」

I waved my hands at once to deny such a high evaluation.

The only reason we could defeat Vlad was because I could steal his battle art and magic with 《Demon Eater Sword; Beelzera》.

I mean, there was no way I could survive a head-to-head clash against Vlad right Heidar.

「… If Heidar went as far as saying so, I guess you pass. Gamdon had already started directing the meeting in the basement.」

The man replied, bowing to Heidar.

After that, he signalled to us to follow him.

Gamdon, I’ve heard that name before.

His enchanted vessel was a bright red-giant-axe called, 《Strong Axe; Gigantes》

He was one of the most prominent mid-rank adventurers in Romburgh city along with Fedor and Heidar.

「Is Gamdon-san… the one who gathering the adventurers to plan a counter-attack against the grey cult in place of the army who don’t want to make their move?」

I asked Heidar as we descended the stairs toward the basement.

Heidar nodded.

「That’s right. Regarding our remuneration, one part of the civilians gathered funds to support our plan. I mean, there’s no way we’ll be working for free on top of putting our life on the line.」

「The plan has advanced that far huh…」

The large scale murder and kidnapping incident caused by the grey cult started from late last night until about early morning today.

Starting from the time I was still thinking about which demon labyrinth to visit nonchalantly, those adventurers had been running around since the morning to prepare for this mission.

「But… let me tell you, the amount isn’t that much considering the fact that we bet our life in this mission. Moreover, who knows what kind of nightmare we’re going to suffer through if this meeting is leaked to the army. Lets just say that this mission is purely out of the adventurer’s goodwill. Naturally, I won’t force you to stay if you get cold feet along the way. In that case, all I want to ask you is to not tell anyone about this plan.」

「I might be weak but… allow me to join the mission.」

Romburgh city was my birthplace after all.

The largest part of the world outside this city was an unknown world for me.

Though it was dilapidated, my house was filled with the memories of my deceased parents, there was also Mani’s smithy.

Even If, for example, I knew that a dangerous group of people were targeting this city, I would never think about leaving Romburgh city to escape to another city.

「But, Edda is originally a wanderer, so she is…」

Heidar spoke to us while scratching his head.

The door to the basement opened as we descended from the stairs.

There were around nine adventurers stuffed together in this small room.

Whether it was D-rank or C-rank, every single one of them were famous adventurers in Romburgh city.

「I bring two acquaintance along with me, Gamdon-san.」

The huge man who stood in the innermost part of the room then looked at me.

He was a huge man with light brown hair and a splendidly rugged jaw line.

Undoubty, he was Gamdon of 《Strong Axe; Gigantes》.

「Hah, what the hell are you thinkin bringing those two scarecrows, Heidar? You ain’t going to use them as bait, right!?」

I was dumbfounded upon hearing Gamdon’s remark.

Though I always looked at him from afar until now, he turned out to be that kind of a person huh.

Even Edda ended up glaring daggers at Gamdon.

「What’s with that look on your face? hear me out greenhorns, in this place, I’m the leader. Though I originally didn’t care about the pecking order of the rowdy adventurers, I had to do this for this mission, anyone who can’t do that is free to leave this room right now! 」

Somehow… he didn’t seem like someone who really cared about this city at all.

I sent a fleeting glance at Heidar.

Heidar whispered to me.

「… Originally, Gamdon wasn’t supposed to join this plan. But, the place called Lahjin company is involved in this gathering too. Thus, Gamdon crashed in immediately to gain that company’s attention. Well, in fact, I’m welcoming his addition into the subjugation team.」
