Intruding into the residence
When the restaurant’s shopkeeper saw Yu Qingluo, he hurried to greet her with an apologetic smile on his face: “I’m sorry, dear guest, but our restaurant for today has already…”
“Where’s my son?” not waiting for him to finish, Yu Qingluo had already asked in a deep voice, grabbing him by the collar. Her expression was icy cold, filled with killing intent.
The shopkeeper was taken aback, he was shocked by the coldness in her eyes “Dear guest, if there’s a problem please say it.”
Yu Qingluo’s face once again turned ugly, she also knew that she was just lashing out at a bystander. After a short pause she let go of his collar and once more asked in a deep voice: “Shopkeeper, have you seen a little boy this short and dressed in some… unconventional clothing, he looks about 4 or 5 years old.”
Seeing that she let go of his collar, the shopkeeper was relieved. But noticing that her complexion was still really bad, he immediately took some steps backwards. And started carefully thinking about her description.
But, even after thinking for a long time, he still shook his head as if he wasn’t very sure.
One of the helpers staying behind where the shopkeeper was heard the commotion and ran over towards them, with a lower voice he said: “I saw that kid.”
Yu Qingluo’s eyes shifted towards the guy, focusing on his body.
The helper only thought before that the lady looked like a soft and reserved type of beauty, so her imposing and cold aura was extremely shocking. He couldn’t help but tremble in his heart. Lowering his head, he replied in a hurried manner: “That little master, I don’t know when he first got over the restaurant’s beans, but later on he was taken away by a guy dressed in white.”
“Guy dressed in white?” Yu Qingluo frowned. “Was it that person who was previously brawling in the central hall?”
“Yes, yes, yes.” the helper hurriedly nodded his head. Telling her everything in full detail, about what he saw at that moment and including the fact that after that man left he was chased by the man he was fighting and another group of people.
Yu Qingluo’s complexion became overcast. She could guess what the situation was like at that time.
Most probably that precious child of hers had actually poisoned the man in white, stirring up some trouble. That naughty kid, when I see him again, I’ll surely rip a layer of his skin off.
(TL note: I think that this ‘reap a layer of skin off’ has to do with slapping his butt so hard that it’ll look like he shed a layer of skin. haha… Poor Nannan, my lil’ devil.)
With a soft snort, she moved to thank the shopkeeper and turned around to leave.
The sky above was already turning dark, the sun setting on the horizon looking as red as fire, painting the streets in front of her in a unique palette.
Yu Qingluo took out a black porcelain bottle from her sleeve and opened its cork. Taking a finger-long scorpion out of it she lowered her hand to the ground, letting it on the floor. She then whispered: “Go.”
Just like it could comprehend her words, the scorpion took off at an unusually fast speed, advancing towards the left from where she was standing.
Yu Qingluo raised her eyes to see the direction of where it was going and her eyebrows twisted slightly. That region was a place where the wealthy lived in the City of Jiang, and the houses were far apart. Could it be that the man in white was actually a young lord from a rich household in the city?
Pursing her lips, she followed after the scorpion.
The small scorpion was extremely fast and after turning several corners, as to avoid causing an uproar among the crowds, it finally climbed in the main doors of a house that had a cold and solemn atmosphere to it. (TL note: This ML’s, they are so cold that even the environment gets infected by their coldness disease, yo~ )
Yu Qingluo stopped and crouched to the floor, taking out the cork of the bottle again and motioning for the scorpion to get in.
It moved for a while before cleverly swishing back into the porcelain bottle.
After putting away the porcelain bottle, Yu Qingluo looked up, frowning a bit at the door in front of her.
Nannan had a smell to his body, so the scorpion’s direction should not be mistaken. Therefore, she was 100% sure that Nannan is inside this house.
Taking some steps forward she tapped at the door lightly with her fingers.
Not hearing any movement, she took a deep breath before knocking again with a stronger force. Still, there was no answer at all.
Heavier and heavier she continued knocking, the strength being used was such that she felt she might soon be able to knock the door down. But still, not a single person had showed up.
She took some steps back and raised her head to look at the house’s plaque hanging above[1], ‘Mo Fu[2]‘ was written on it. She snorted softly as her patience had already run out. After straightening her back Yu Qingluo strode inside.
The main gates were unlocked, but there wasn’t a single soul inside.
“This place…” Yu Qingluo couldn’t bear but slow down her steps, cautiously walking forward.
After going through the main gate, she entered a large courtyard with a great variety of flowers and trees. The lush greenery looked bright and colourful. After easily sweeping her eyes over the place she determined that these plants weren’t poisonous, they looked like they were used only to give off a pleasant smell to the surroundings.
Yu Qingluo proceeded forwards, following a meter wide gravel road that she spotted ahead. But after walking about 10 steps she halted as she realized that something wasn’t right. She was shocked, and without a second thought, she walked back through the path she had come from.
However, she didn’t think that the distance, which was only 10 steps, would suddenly turn into 20 and then 30 steps but she still was unable to go back. It now looked like the gravel road was filled with multiple twists and turns, no matter what direction she chose to walk, there would always be flowers blocking her way.
Yu Qingluo stopped and silently raised a hand to her chin. Is it possible that this is the legendary 5-element array? No wonder there wasn’t a single guard in the front gate.
Her eyes flashed in excitement, staring at the ending of the road that appeared to be so close but was actually really far away made her smile. This is the first time she has met with something this fun, even though she wasn’t sure if she would be able to get out of it.
Yu Qingluo raised her head and looked up, then proceeded to grab her sleeves and dust off a nearby stone that had a flatter surface, before sitting on it with a face filled with interest.
What she didn’t know is that at that exact moment, on the upper floor of a pavilion, not far away, someone had just retracted his gaze from her figure, distancing himself from the window and turning to run down the stairs, this person went in the direction of the main building of the Mo residence.
“Lord.” The man ran from outside the courtyard and finally slowed down when he arrived in front of the doors of the main building inside[3]. Lowering his head slightly in a respectful manner he stood to the side.
The door of the main hall was opened. Mo Xian stood behind it with a greenish complexion, his white clothes had blood spots on them, and his lips were darkened. “What’s the matter?”
“Answering Master Mo, someone broke into the Mo residence. That person is currently inside the Hundred Flowers Array.”
Mo Xian frowned, his face looked terrifying under the influence of the poison, and his usual gentle attitude was nowhere to be seen. Looking at the secret guard’s respectful stance, he replied solemnly: “I don’t know which person would…”
“Mo Xian, let him in.” before Mo Xian could finish his sentence, a lower and gloomier voice sounded from the back.
Mo Xian and the secret guard who stood by the door became a bit tense. Their voices turned more respectful: “Yes, Lord.”
Taking a few steps forward but without lifting his head, the guard knelt on the ground to pay respects: “Your subordinate greets you, Lord.”
“Hm.” a deep voice came from in front of him. The man who he addressed as Lord was sitting behind a curtain, surrounded by a cold aura. His legs were resting comfortably on a rectangular cushion. His long and slender fingers were moving slowly as he caressed a… dark panther that was lying right by his side.

Translator’s Notes
[1] – It is literally a huge decorative plaque with the surname of the family written, indicating which family lives inside. From what I know only official residences or wealthy and powerful families had these plaques installed in front of the household. Mind you, these residences cover an extremely large area and have several courtyards inside.
[2] – 莫府 – (Mò fǔ) – this character “府” is going to be translated as “Residence”, the first character is the surname of the family living inside (They are using Mo Xian’s surname in this case, since this residence must belong to him). But it is used for the residence of recognized officials. You might see some translations as ‘Mansion’, which should not be wrong since, like I said previously, they were huge. And another detail is that, if this residence belonged to an official with higher standing or nobility ranking, the ranking would have been written before the character ‘府’. You’ll see an example of that later, I’ll point out for everyone to see 🙂
[3] – I’ll put an image so it’ll be easy to understand. There are a main gate and walls that surround a large area… Inside of it is considered the ‘residence’ or ‘mansion’. Inside there are several courtyards and buildings, beautiful gardens, lakes and other types of construction might be seen inside as well. An inner courtyard ‘院’(Yuàn) is basically structured like this: https://images.chinahighlights.com/allpicture/2018/07/e75435773eb24cb8a7acc225.jpg. If you guys are interested, you may google for ‘Chinese Ancient Mansions’… it’s quite a feast for the eyes!
