Yu Zi Huan couldn’t help but find it funny when he saw her limbs were against the door. “What is Auntie Zhang looking for you for? You make it so intense.”
Yu Zhi Le sat back at the table, picked the best part of the fish maw and gave it to Yu Zi Huan with her chopsticks. She said as she played down the situation, “It’s nothing, just introducing someone to me.”
Yu Zhi Le didn’t say it was a blind date just in case Yu Zhi Le overthink. Even though he was young, he could still think of the meaning of the so-called ‘introducing someone to be acquainted with’. The smile faded and the relaxed expression on his face suddenly darkened, and he lowered his head to fiddle with the fish in the bowl with his chopsticks. His thickly curled eyelashes drooped casting a small dark shadow under his eyes, hiding the complex emotions in his eyes, “Then, why didn’t you go?”
“What’s there to go?” Yu Zhi Le picked up an enoki mushroom with her chopsticks and placed it in her mouth. Coincidentally, her eyes met with Yu Zi Huan who raised his eyes.
“Don’t you want to… Don’t you want to get married and start your own family?” Yu Zi Huan’s eyes stared at Yu Zhi Le’s face without blinking, as he was afraid that he would miss out on the slightest change.
He abruptly changed his question and wanted to ask ‘could it be that she suddenly wanted to throw him away?’.
Yu Zhi Le’s heart was softened by his watery downcast eyes and knitted brows that she couldn’t help but reveal a kind and motherly smile. After she realised how she was acting, she froze and felt worried for her maternal glory. She patted Yu Zi Huan’s back and smiled, “I’m only at this age. It’s too early to talk about marriage.”
Yu Zi Huan was still staring at her intently, with some doubt in his eyes.
Yu Zhi Le’s eyes narrowed, “You are not trying to say I’m old, are you?”
For a child who would only turn fourteen next month, she was indeed an old woman at the age of twenty-two. However Yu Zhi Le could ridicule herself, but she would not allow others to say so.
“Keep your mouth shut.” Yu Zhi Le squinted her eyes at Yu Zi Huan, then made a zipping gesture across her mouth. “Don’t say anything. You won’t have breakfast tomorrow if you do.”
Yu Zi Huan was amused by her series of mindful expression and action. The two dimples at the corner of his mouth could not be suppressed. He obediently did not speak and buried his head to pick up the food in the bowl.
After avoiding the dinner raid, when Yu Zhi Le and Yu Zi Huan went to exercise in the evening, she was still caught by Auntie No. 1. There was a man behind her who looked to be in his thirties, about 1.65 metres tall, wearing glasses and had greasy hair.
Yu Zhi Le, who was playing basketball, was pulled aside by Auntie No. 1 and was introduced to the man. Her clothes were nearly drenched in sweat and it clung to her body, outline a curvy figure. At the same time, the man’s line of sight kept circling her chest, waist and hips. Together with his fake smile, it revealed an unexplainable lewdness that made Yu Zhi Le feel unpleasant and uncomfortable.
“Xiao Yu, why didn’t you go to the tea house in the evening?” Auntie No. 1 grabbed Yu Zhi Le’s hands and didn’t let go, there was a hint of reproach in her tone. She turned her face to the man with a wide smile, “Fortunately, my eldest nephew is magnanimous. Come, this is Yu Zhi Le, Xiao Yu. This is Zhang Fa Qiang, my nephew. You can call him Teacher Zhang.”
Zhang Fa Qiang smiled at Yu Zhi Le with a shifty look, walked forward and wanted to shake her hand, “Calling me teacher sounds too distant. Just call me Brother Zhang.”
Yu Zhi Le inconspicuously avoided shaking hands with him. She laughed dryly and asked Auntie No. 1, “Auntie Zhang, have you forgotten that I have said I am not free?”
Auntie No. 1 shot a quick glimpse at Zhang Fa Qiang and angrily glared at Yu Zhi Le. The meaning in her eyes was clearly blaming her for not giving her face, “Aren’t you free now? Why don’t you have time to meet Fa Qiang when you are playing basketball with your younger brother? He has such great conditions and he is even a teacher.”
When Zhang Fa Qiang was praised by Auntie No. 1, he stretched his neck and straightened his clothes as he tried to show a modest attitude. However, from Yu Zhi Le’s point of view, she could only see the top of his head, which was almost bald but had hair at the side to hide it.
Is this what Auntie No. 1 said the other day about being mature, reliable, tall and handsome? It was true that he was mature but anyone his age would probably be more mature than when they were in their early twenties. As for being tall and handsome? How are these words even related to a top grade man that isn’t as tall as Yu Zhi Le?
There was a snort of laughter from the side at this time. Auntie No. 2 who had overheard their conversation, said lightly with a few other aunties, “Why didn’t I know that a person who guards the school gate could be called a teacher? What a joke.”
“Who are you talking about?” Auntie No. 1, who was already at odds with her, flared up.
“As for who I am talking about, you should know it well in your heart. This person is wearing spectacles. It is probably fake glasses, right?” Auntie No. 2 said with a big smirk but ignored Auntie No. 1.
The two people had a disagreement and bickered again.
Zhang Fa Qiang, who had been exposed, was a bit embarrassed. At this time, Yu Zi Huan, who had been paying attention to the situation here, also came over and stood next to Yu Zhi Le and asked if she was alright. He looked watchfully at Zhang Fa Qiang.
Zhang Fa Qiang smiled at him, “You are Xiao Yu’s younger brother, right?”
Yu Zhi Le and Yu Zi Huan didn’t want to mind him, but he didn’t seem to understand and continued, “Your younger brother is so big. I heard my aunt say that you work as a cashier in a mini-mart and he oftens goes with you to help out. Do you plan to work there even after graduating from junior high school?”
“It’s good to work early, so you won’t have to rely on your family in the future.” Zhang Fa Qiang said as if he was already Yu Zi Huan’s brother-in-law. He nodded his head and the manner he looked at him seemed to be as if Yu Zi Huan was eating, wearing and using his family’s money, “You can’t always let your sister support you. Her salary will have to be used in the family’s expenses later…”
Yu Zhi Le pulled a long face. She tried to resist the desire to curse and said to Zhang Fa Qiang decisively, “Your family’s child just graduated from junior high school and you are rushing him to work? Anyway, my child won’t! Don’t mention the fact that you don’t have any relationship with me. Even if you do, it’s my business if I want to raise my brother, so don’t tell me what to do!”
After saying that she pulled Yu Zi Huan turned around and left, she didn’t bother to spout nonsense with Auntie No. 1. In the future, if others were to gossip, let them be.
On the entire way back, neither of them spoke. Yu Zhi Le was angry, but Yu Zi Huan had a pensive expression. When Yu Zhi Le opened the door, Yu Zi Huan stood behind her. In the dark and silent corridor, a teen’s young, tender and quiet voice, its firm and solemn that is hard to ignore, suddenly sounded, “I will get into the best high school and the best university. I will raise you in the future.”
Yu Zhi Le’s action of turning the keys paused and smiled like a cheshire cat, but she didn’t take it seriously, “Alright. I will remember that. You can’t go back on your words.”
