Wang Ting really didn't expect that Wang Yong would still have the leisure to joke around at this point. But Wang Yong wasn't done yet; this guy even started a psychological offensive against the ruthless drug dealers and mercenaries, just like the police would do! After shouting that they were surrounded, he continued.
"Recognize the situation, don't resist in vain. You should know our policy: those who confess will be treated leniently, and those who resist will be dealt with severely. Think about your parents and children waiting for you to reunite with your family."
Wang Yong's advice didn't win him any favors from the group of drug dealers and mercenaries. In response, they unleashed a barrage of bullets, forcing Wang Yong and his companion to keep their heads down.
However, these people clearly underestimated Wang Yong's strength, or rather, the power of the integrated combat system. Wang Yong, who had already connected the weapon system and reconnaissance robots of the integrated combat system to the heavy machine gun in his hands, kept his head down and aimed through the video feed of the system. Wherever the crosshairs representing the machine gun went, the M2 heavy machine gun's bullets followed. So, with his head down and one hand on the trigger, Wang Yong occasionally fired a burst, causing chaos among the enemy.
Wang Ting, standing beside him, grumbled that Wang Yong was just lucky, hitting the target even when shooting blindly.
However, the opponents were not ordinary people, especially Scorpion and his two subordinates, who were battle-hardened mercenaries. Their experience and marksmanship were exceptional, and a sudden burst could make Wang Yong and Wang Ting scramble. As they saw the group getting closer to their position, Wang Ting, in a panic, kept the trigger pressed, trying to suppress them with heavy fire.
If Wang Yong hadn't pulled him back at a critical moment, he might have been shot in the head by Scorpion. Wang Yong, with his head down and only one hand on the trigger, caused them significant trouble. One mercenary, hiding behind a pine tree no thicker than a bowl, was torn to pieces by the 12.7mm bullets from Wang Yong's heavy machine gun when the tree was cut down, and he couldn't dodge in time. This forced the enemy back.
"Really brutal!" Wang Yong said, pulling out several Bren light machine gun magazines from his chest and helping Wang Ting reload, while Wang Ting was speechless. "You know, right? The guy was torn into pieces. Though the American weapons are powerful, your aim is also incredible! Is there something special about this machine gun, or is it just your incredible luck? These guys are just running into the bullets!"
While Wang Ting was still puzzled, Wang Yong's psychological offensive resumed. It was unclear where he learned these tactics.
"Listen up, we are Chinese border police. You have illegally entered our territory. Surrender immediately and lay down your weapons; it's your only way out. Don't resist. I'm giving you one minute. If you don't surrender by then, you will face certain death!"
A gunshot interrupted Wang Yong's speech, nearly hitting his exposed hand. Frightened, Wang Yong immediately fired a burst in the direction of the shot. The gunfire subsided, and the battlefield fell silent. Just as Wang Ting was puzzled, Wang Yong spoke again, making him ecstatic.
"You heard that, our reinforcements are here. You have no chance. Surrender is your only way out. Drop your weapons and come out with your hands on your heads. Our patience is limited."
Bang, bang, bang... rat-a-tat-tat... boom, boom, boom... As soon as Wang Yong finished speaking, the ruthless bandits charged at them, determined to break through. Wang Ting realized that Wang Yong's luck had struck again; the reinforcements must have arrived, and these guys were desperate. If they could escape across the border, they would be out of reach.
Wang Ting, ignoring his own safety, started firing with one hand. He couldn't let these arrogant guys escape. They couldn't just come and go as they pleased. He also had to ask for permission. And there was Wang Yong, still firing the brutal heavy machine gun.
As the two sides got closer, with the front line less than a hundred meters away, Wang Yong and his companion were pinned down by the intense fire. Suddenly, Wang Ting heard the sound of helicopter rotors slicing through the air. Before he could react, a helicopter appeared on the mountaintop, unlike any domestic model he knew, but similar to the American Apache. It had tandem cockpits, short wings with two pylons on each side, anti-tank missiles on the inner pylons, and rocket pods on the outer ones. There was also a cannon under the nose, its dark barrel exuding a terrifying aura.
Just as Wang Ting was surprised, the helicopter, resembling a flying tank, opened fire with its cannon and rockets. A sea of fire erupted in front of Wang Yong, trapping Scorpion and the drug dealers. After the smoke cleared, the ground was a mess, and the helicopter hovered, searching for survivors. Wang Ting, impressed, joked to Wang Yong, "This thing is really brutal!"
Wang Yong, looking at the scattered body parts, trees, rocks, and weapon fragments, nodded. "Yeah, this thing is brutal. We should get one and try it out sometime, what do you think?"
Wang Ting stared at Wang Yong for a while, making him feel uneasy, before finally speaking. "You're not just a military enthusiast, are you? Spill the beans, we've fought side by side and risked our lives together, no need to hide it."
"Ah! Really? You figured it out? Actually, it's nothing much. My grandfathers were old revolutionaries, and my uncle is a high-ranking official in the central government. By today's standards, I guess I'm a third-generation red."
As they talked, two more WZ-9 helicopters appeared from behind the mountain, heading for Wang Yong's position. Two Mi-171 helicopters, also armed with rocket pods, followed. The unknown helicopter, seeing the reinforcements, took off vertically and flew away, leaving Wang Yong and Wang Ting envious.
The helicopter's rotor blades stirred up a strong wind, forcing Wang Yong and Wang Ting to bury their heads in their arms. After about a minute, the helicopters flew away. The two men opened their eyes to see several camouflaged soldiers with special forces arm patches looking at them in surprise. One of them, holding a Type 95 light machine gun, asked, "Are you guys from the past? Where did you get these old antiques, and they're in such good condition?"
Another, with two Type 56 assault rifles on his shoulder, asked, "These are British 7.7mm Bren light machine guns and American heavy machine guns from World War II. Where did you find these working antiques? They were the best of their time!"
"Want them?" Wang Yong asked, looking at the man with the Type 56s.
"More?" The special forces soldiers looked at Wang Yong in shock.
Wang Yong and Wang Ting exchanged glances and nodded. They then stood up, revealing a dark entrance. After Wang Ting was taken away by medics, Wang Yong led the special forces and medics into the cave. Inside, a severely injured soldier was waiting for treatment. On the way, Wang Yong briefly explained how he discovered the underground arsenal and its layout, and warned them about the booby traps he had set. The special forces were sweating, realizing the danger if they had cleared the debris without this information. They looked at Wang Yong with strange expressions, thinking he was really ruthless.
After leading the group to the injured soldier, Wang Yong followed the medics out. He had taken what he needed and had no regrets. He would inform the state eventually, so he left the rest for the special forces to enjoy. As the special forces explored, Wang Yong, with the medics, met Wang Ting and a middle-aged police officer with a rank of major general. Before Wang Ting could introduce him, the major general spoke.
"Wang Yong? It's you?"
Wang Yong looked at the man in surprise. He had an excellent memory and would remember anyone he had met. But he didn't recognize this person. Who was he? Could he be a subordinate of his uncle?
"Don't think too much. You haven't met me. I'm Zhao Zhijun, a cousin of Zhao Zhicheng."
Now Wang Yong understood. He was a relative, a cousin of his uncle.
"Ah! It's you, Uncle Zhao! Nice to meet you!"
"Cut the formalities. Call me Second Brother. I need to thank you. If it weren't for you, my two soldiers would have died, and fifty kilograms of heroin would have entered our country, harming many people. On behalf of the state and the border police, I salute you."
Wang Yong couldn't let him salute him. He quickly hugged his new, straightforward second brother, not wanting him to salute. After all, he had killed people with a heavy machine gun, turning them into pieces of flesh. Although it was self-defense, he was just a village chief, not authorized to decide life and death. If someone brought this up, he would need his second brother's help.
Seeing Wang Yong looking at the soldiers clearing the battlefield, Zhao Zhijun patted his shoulder and reassured him, "Don't worry, I'll handle it. It won't involve you. If you were a soldier, I'd get you a first-class merit." Just as Zhao Zhijun was regretting this, a small gray wolf with a white tuft on its head wobbled over to them. "How did a dog get here? No, it's a wolf!" The border police, experienced in dealing with drug dealers, quickly aimed their guns at the wolf.
"Wait, it's a wolf pup I found. White Fur! Stand still," Wang Yong shouted, knowing the pup would be shot if he didn't act quickly.
Hearing Wang Yong's voice, the pup, who had just been released from Wang Yong's small world, stopped. It had been placed a hundred meters away in the grass and, upon seeing Wang Yong, had run over, wanting to be taken back to the comfortable place. It sensed the benefits of that place but heard its human owner telling it to stay still.
Seeing the wolf pup obey Wang Yong, the people relaxed. As Wang Yong picked up the pup, they asked curiously. Wang Yong made up a story about finding the pup in the forest and hiding it to protect it. (To be continued.)
