Although Mingxi and the others had temporarily escaped the crisis, Du Yuqi, the newcomer, was about to face the biggest trouble since entering this world!!
Five minutes ago, Du Yuqi was hurrying along when he suddenly noticed something amiss ahead. Upon closer inspection, he saw a mound of fresh earth about ten square meters in size bulging out of the grass. The soil was very new, clearly just dug up, and from a distance, it looked like a new grave. The mound was even trembling slightly, and there were eerie "creaking" sounds coming from inside, as if dozens of hard walnuts were being rubbed together continuously!
Seeing this, Du Yuqi immediately felt a chill run down his spine. It was truly a case of fearing what he most dreaded! He had been praying all along for the gods and buddhas to prevent any trouble, but his fears had come to pass.
If it were the Du Yuqi who had just arrived in this world, he might have approached the mound out of curiosity, perhaps even digging into the soil to see what was inside. However, after witnessing the gruesome death of the driver, Du Yuqi knew that this seemingly beautiful forest was exceptionally dangerous. Even a logger in a steel-built mech had died here, so what chance did he have?
In the eyes of the monster, he might as well be a juicy, walking piece of food, perfect for being the filling in a sandwich...
Therefore, upon seeing the mound, Du Yuqi turned and fled without a second thought, acting decisively and without hesitation.
His quick decision was undoubtedly very wise. As soon as Du Yuqi turned to run, the large mound of fresh earth exploded, sending wet soil flying in all directions. A terrifying, long, black shadow suddenly lunged out, stretching like a snake in the air, making "clicking" sounds as it pursued Du Yuqi's back!
After running just twenty to thirty meters, Du Yuqi realized a very unfortunate fact: the monster was faster than him. If he continued to run, he would inevitably be caught, thrown to the ground, and killed. With his back completely exposed to the enemy, he would have no chance to fight back!
Thinking of this, Du Yuqi's facial muscles twitched, his breathing became rapid, and his chest heaved. Suddenly, he gritted his teeth, shouted, and stopped running. Instead, he turned to face the enemy, drawing the machete from his waist!
"I don't want to die! I don't want to die!!!"
At this moment, these four words filled Du Yuqi's mind! Faced with the terrifying threat of death, he did not collapse but instead burst with astonishing courage!
As soon as Du Yuqi turned, the relentless monster let out a strange cry and pounced. The stench of its breath filled the air, and Du Yuqi, gripping the machete, panted heavily through his nose. For some reason, he instinctively performed an upward slash with the machete, as if he had practiced it a thousand times.
This upward slash hit its mark!
Du Yuqi felt a surge of force in his hand, followed by intense pain in the web of his right hand where he held the machete. The machete's blade collided with the monster's body, producing a dull "thud," as if it had hit something hard.
After barely managing to knock the monster away, Du Yuqi stumbled backward several steps. If not for the tree behind him, he would have fallen to the ground.
The monster, which had been knocked away, crashed into a rock behind it, then quickly rolled and got back up. Only then did Du Yuqi see the monster clearly. It looked like a giant snake, about two to three meters long, with a brown body. However, its body was segmented like a centipede, each segment covered in a hard, stone-like shell with prominent spines, making it look intimidating.
Its head was a large, flower-like mouth, seemingly without eyes, ears, or a nose. The "flower" was actually composed of razor-sharp teeth, which looked horrifying and would likely tear off a large chunk of flesh with a single bite!
After rolling, the monster immediately assumed a semi-upright position, similar to a cobra. The "clicking" sounds it made as it moved were produced by the hard shells of its segments colliding.
"What the hell is this thing?!" Du Yuqi was somewhat stunned, but the experience of successfully knocking the monster away gave him some confidence, allowing him to continue holding the machete and remain on guard.
Suddenly, the monster's body coiled, and its tail lashed the ground, sending soil and grass flying in all directions, almost like an explosion. Using the recoil from this strike, the monster, with its incredible explosive power, shot forward and pounced on Du Yuqi again!
Fortunately, Du Yuqi had calmed down by this point. Knowing his strength was clearly inferior to the monster's, he did not engage in a direct confrontation. When the monster's tail lashed, he leaped to the side.
Although he landed awkwardly, hitting his face on a rock and seeing stars, with blood streaming from his nose, he managed to successfully evade the monster's attack. As soon as he landed, he immediately rolled to his feet, not even pausing to wipe the blood from his nose, and stood firm with the machete, remaining on guard.
However, at this moment, he noticed some good news: the monster was not unscathed. A part of its midsection's shell was clearly cracked, and a pale yellow liquid was continuously oozing from the cracks, sliding down its body and dripping onto the grass, where it sizzled and emitted smoke, clearly the acidic blood known to corrode armor and weapons.
The monster's injury seemed to have affected its internal organs, which was quite serious for any creature. No wonder Du Yuqi found it hiding in the mound of soil, likely seeking a dark environment to heal.
