Chapter 50

Hu Hao entered the Japanese soldiers' tent, but there was not a single Japanese soldier inside. Hu Hao searched around but found nothing to eat!
"No way, I still have to go to the Japanese canteen to get some food!" Hu Hao thought.
So Hu Hao started wandering around the camp, trying to find where the Japanese canteen was. After wandering for about half an hour, he finally found the canteen in a corner. Hu Hao walked in and saw many Japanese soldiers eating. He joined the queue, got his food, and found a table to eat.
After eating his fill, Hu Hao left the canteen and returned to the camp. He originally wanted to take some things, but seeing that the Japanese soldiers were all eating, he didn't want to draw attention to himself, so he left the camp.
After leaving the camp, Hu Hao was thinking, "Should I go and kill the few Japanese officers who came to inspect to avenge my first guard duty, or should I go straight to the tobacco seller to buy cigarettes and then go back?"
"No, I still have to take revenge. Damn it, they made me stand guard for over an hour and even made me hungry. I have to give them a lesson, or they won't know how powerful I am!" With this thought, Hu Hao started looking for where the Japanese lieutenant general was, hoping to find an opportunity to take him out.
However, before taking him out, he had to plan his escape route. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fun to be buried with the Japanese. So he wandered around the city to find a place where the Japanese defense was weak. He finally found a good spot in the southwest corner of the city. There were few Japanese soldiers in that direction, and he could quickly find cover from the city wall to avoid the Japanese.
After determining the escape route, Hu Hao began to look for a place to ambush the Japanese lieutenant general. He saw that the Japanese vehicles were still parked in the same place and guessed that the Japanese would get back into their vehicles from there. Hu Hao looked around to see if there were any high points from which he could shoot the Japanese.
Hu Hao saw a tall building with a window facing that direction and went towards it.
When he went inside, he found it was a brothel. Hu Hao had no choice but to push the door open. Two men inside saw Hu Hao and quickly stood up, bowing and saying, "Sir, the girls haven't woken up yet. Would you like to wait?"
Hu Hao, knowing that one of them was the boss, replied in a mix of Japanese and Chinese, "Good, the girls haven't woken up yet? Fine! Get me a room, I want to rest first!" He then went upstairs directly, and the two men followed him. They went up to the third floor, where they found an open door. Inside, there was a bed that was neatly made. Hu Hao said, "This is fine. You can go down. I want to sleep well. If I don't call you, anyone who dares to disturb me will be killed." The two men replied, "Understood, sir. Rest well, we won't disturb you."
"Good," Hu Hao nodded in satisfaction, entered the room, and closed the door.
After hearing the two men go downstairs, Hu Hao carefully opened the window a little, just enough to stick out his gun barrel. He looked down and saw that the Japanese vehicles were still quiet. He leaned against the wall, lit a cigarette, and continued to watch.
At this time, the Third Regiment had already arrived at the ambush site, and the soldiers were all in position.
"Commander, Commander, Er Lengzi is not in the room. I couldn't find him, but his weapon and clothes are still there. I don't know where he went," a soldier came to Commander Zhang, handing over Hu Hao's clothes and the sniper rifle.
"What? Er Lengzi is missing?" Commander Zhang took the clothes and the gun, confirmed they belonged to Er Lengzi, and frowned.
"Commander, do you think Er Lengzi went into the city? He didn't wear the Eighth Route Army uniform when he went into the city before," the political commissar said.
"He must have gone into the city. That damn brat, he always causes trouble when I'm not paying attention. A few days ago, I saw that his box had only a few packs of cigarettes left, so I was on guard. I didn't expect him to slip away so early in the morning," Commander Zhang said.
"Do you think Er Lengzi went into the city to buy cigarettes? That shouldn't be a problem. He's been there several times, and nothing bad has happened," the political commissar said.
"Who knows what trouble he might cause? We are here to ambush the Japanese lieutenant general. If something happens on his side, the ambush will definitely fail, and it might turn into a fierce battle," Commander Zhang said.
"What should we do? Do you think Er Lengzi will foolishly try to kill the Japanese lieutenant general? There are over a thousand Japanese soldiers in the city, and he's alone without even a proper gun. I don't think he can do it. I guess he'll just buy cigarettes and come back," the political commissar said.
"Who knows what he'll do? Let's be prepared just in case. Send the Second Battalion to the outskirts of the city to set up an ambush. If Er Lengzi comes out, they should stay there and block the Japanese reinforcements from the city. If Er Lengzi doesn't come out and something happens inside, they should attack the city directly," Commander Zhang said.
"Commander Zhang, attack the city? We don't have many heavy weapons, and we only have a thousand men in one battalion. How can we attack the city? Isn't this order too hasty?" the chief of staff said.
"Not hasty, you don't understand. If Er Lengzi starts a fight in the city, the Japanese lieutenant general won't leave today, and it's uncertain whether he will leave at all. We can only keep the Japanese lieutenant general here by attacking the city. If nothing happens on Er Lengzi's side, the Second Battalion can help us with the ambush. When we start the attack, the Japanese in the city will definitely come to reinforce, and the Second Battalion can take out some of them. Let's do it this way," Commander Zhang said.
"Alright, I'll follow your lead. I hope Er Lengzi doesn't cause trouble, or the ambush will turn into a city attack, and our soldiers will suffer heavy casualties. So many new recruits haven't been through battle yet. Sigh!" the chief of staff said.
Hu Hao had no idea that Commander Zhang was also planning to take out the Japanese lieutenant general. He just wanted to kill the lieutenant general, who made him stand guard for over an hour and only gave him two silver dollars.
