She walked at a slow pace and started to run with all her strength at the end of the corridor.

Gu Yeyu herself had no idea how far she ran away.

When she exhausted herself, she turned back, to find that Chu Jiran didn’t follow her.

He did not follow her.

Gu Yeyu wandered along the noisy street. The sun beat down on her so she could barely open her eyes. A steady stream of people walked by.

Yet she still felt there seemed to be her alone.

“Yeyu?” Bai Weijin picked up the phone. Having just arrived at the company, she got a lot of business to deal with.

“Weijin…”, as soon as she heard the voice of her sister-in-law, Gu Yeyu found it difficult to restrain her pent-up emotions.

Bai Weijin paused when she was about to turn on the computer.

The girl was all right when Bai Weijin left. What had happened? One thing was for sure: her breakdown must have something to do with Chu Jiran.

“Had a row with Jiran?”

It even hurt Gu Yeyu to have heard the name.

Bai Weijin heaved a sigh of relief when seeing Gu Yeyu in a coffee shop. Luckily, she didn’t end up entering a bar and getting herself in a fix like what she had done last time.

Her eyes were bloodshot from crying, and her hair was tousled.

“I’ve bared my soul to Jiran… It was the first time that I poured out my love for him, but he told me he doesn’t love me.”

Bai Weijin barely saw Gu Yeyu being so calm. It seemed that she would become another person when it came to anything about Chu Jiran.

Gu Yeyu stirred her coffee, when her first encounter with Chu Jiran sprang to mind.

Born with a silver spoon in her mouth, Gu Yeyu didn’t have any friend in her childhood.

Her family doted on her very much, and her brother took her under his wing, though he often behaved like an “adult” and never played with her.

Guarded by several maids and bodyguards, she could see all the other classmates were green with envy.

Though she dressed like a princess and was sent to school by a luxurious car every day, Gu Yeyu felt only too lonely.

One day Gu Yeyu was kept at a distance by other children again.

“Why are you crying?” Gu Yeyu stood in a corner holding a ball, when a child’s sound came from behind.

She turned around.

It was the most handsome boy Gu Yeyu had ever seen except her brother. She even thought he was a little more handsome.

“Don’t you see I’m playing here?” Gu Yeyu stood with arms akimbo, retorting proudly.

She was taught from an early age not to show any weakness, so she would definitely not tell him she stood here because no one dared to play with her.

Chu Jiran flashed her a smile, a smile that Gu Yeyu felt seemed to light up the place around.

“Are you playing alone? Other children are there together.”

His words irritated Gu Yeyu. Young as she was, the girl was too proud to hear him tell the truth bluntly.

“Aren’t you being alone, either?” She pursed her mouth.

“So, why don’t we play together?” Chu Jiran wasn’t annoyed by her rudeness. Instead, he asked in a kind and friendly way.

Gu Yeyu opened her mouth wide with astonishment.

“Play together? Do you know who I am?” She stared at Chu Jiran and tilted her head while asking.

Chu Jiran shook his head, “No, I don’t”.

“Then how come you dare to play with me?” Gu Yeyu curled her lips in depression. Once the boy learned about her identity, he would be as far away from her as everyone else was and dared not make friends with her.

It was well before the crisis that befell Chu Jiran’s family later. Chu’s Group, with Chu Jiran’s parents as its head, was enjoying a period of prosperity.

“Why daren’t I? You have no friend, and I have no friend, either, so why can’t we be friends?” Chu Jiran didn’t know what Gu Yeyu meant. He just found the little girl pretty adorable.

Perhaps it was her envious and proud look that touched him, making him want to be friends with her.

Gu Yeyu hesitated on hearing that.

“Are you serious?” Gu Yeyu asked again.

Chu Jiran answered with a warm smile, “Of course I am.”

The two kids frolicked for a whole afternoon. It was the first day that Chu Jiran came to this kindergarten,

Kids tended to be both curious and nervous about the arrival of newcomers. Docile as he looked, Chu Jiran was even more unapproachable than Gu Yeze.

That was why he was left alone when others were doing extracurricular activities.

Suddenly the cute little girl met his eyes. He felt genuine compassion towards her, subconsciously coming up to ask her why she looked unhappy.

Gu Yeyu came home, her clothes black with dirt.

Despite the scolding from her grandmother and her brother, she was still filled with joy, for she finally had a friend.

Later, Gu Yeyu knew he was named Chu Jiran and came from the Chu Family. Her parents didn’t like his father, but were very pleased with him.

Chu Jiran also knew her identity. As the young daughter of the Gu Family, she was much less difficult to get along with than her family.

After all, he was once on the receiving end of their tough character.

His first encounter with Gu Yeze ended up in dispute.

Of course, with Gu Yeyu acting as the mediator, they finally became good friends with each other.

“That’s how we developed an acquaintance. Literally, we grew up together. He kept me company, shielded me when my parents scolded me, and we played tricks on my bad-tempered brother together.”

The coffee was stirred constantly.

Bai Weijin just listened to her quietly.

“I’m no fool. I know he doesn’t love me, I can feel that. But I refuse to face the reality, so I went abroad and came back every few months to see whether he changed his mind.”

It was not until now that Bai Weijin got the picture. It turned out that the girl’s purpose of going abroad was not to keep her mom and dad company.

“So? Are you going to give up?” Bai Weijin opened her mouth finally.

Her question left Gu Yeyu stuck for words.
