His stare couldn’t be more tender. The very thought that his beloved one was about to become single kept Chu Jiran’s mind whirling with excitement, but soon he repressed it.

‘Good things are worthy waiting for.’

Bai Weijin’s stomach rumbled. After all, it was a long time before she had a mean.

She flushed and raised her head.

Chu Jiran’s smile broadened, “You hungry? I go out to buy something for dinner.”

Hardly had he cooked at home, so there was little food left in the fridge. Due to the fact that he enjoyed being alone, there were no maids in the house. Chu Jiran had to buy some food himself.

“Ok. I wait for you at home.” Bai Weijin seldom if ever asked others to cook for her, but she was too weak to do any chore. In case of causing more trouble to Chu Jiran, she chose to stay at home.

A trace of smile played across Chu Jiran’s lips. What Bai Weijin just said pleased him greatly, as if she was a wife waiting for her husband to return.

Because of her existence, Chu Jiran felt for the first time the term “home” was a pleasant word.

With a clank, the lock was fastened. Bai Weijin sank on the sofa.

Things happened one by one these days. Bai Weijin was on the verge of a mental breakdown, though she tried to keep up appearances when others were present.

She put her hand on her abdomen, slowly caressing it, to feel the little embryo inside.

Suddenly, Bai Weijin gave a sneer. Looking back on her past, she could think of nothing but an unhappy childhood when she hardly received fatherly affection. Now her child would meet the same fate as her—growing up in a single-parent family.

The thought gave her a headache.

After the door was pushed open, there followed the sound of footsteps on the floor. Bai Weijin thought it was Chu Jiran.

Without raising her head, she greeted him, “Wow, so quick! Anything I can do for you?”

Yet she received no reply. Bai Weijin alertly opened her eyes, only to find that the man was Gu Yeze.

“You hope it’s him coming back?” Gu Yeze spoke in a satirical tone. Looking over at the woman sitting on the sofa, he felt an unspeakable pain.

Bai Weijin stood up, looking Gu Yeze in the eye, “Does it matter what I’m thinking? We are to divorce, if I remember rightly.”

Gu Yeze took a deep breath, seemingly trying to suppress his anger. There was no one in the world but Bai Weijin who dared to challenge him and could get away with his anger. Yet the woman didn’t realize her mistake at all. If she were anyone else, he would definitely kill her.

“This is your last chance. Abort the child, and I can overlook what you’ve done.” For Gu Yeze’s part, it was the biggest concession he was able to make, that is to say, he could forgive Bai Weijin for making the mistake but would never raise a child whose father was not him.

With no sign of weakness, Bai Weijin met his gaze and gave a categorical rebuff, “This is also my final answer. We get divorce. I’ll raise the child myself.”

She once tried to explain the whole thing to him or made every attempt to save their marriage. Unluckily, Gu Yeze didn’t believe a word she said. For him, what mattered was not the truth but what he believed to be.

There was a throbbing in Gu Yeze’s temples. When he walked into the house, what greeted him was Bai Weijin cowering back into the sofa, so vulnerable that he needed to immediately take her under his wing.

However, it turned out to be his illusion. The woman was as stubborn as a mule. What’s worse, she didn’t acknowledge her mistake, which infuriated him.

‘Why won’t she have an abortion? Cause if she will, I can explain it to Grandma and handle everything.’

Bai Weijin turned away, for she couldn’t bear to look at the expression on Gu Yeze’s face. She spoke in a stiff tone, “Well, since we’ve got there, how about choosing a date to go through the procedures, Mr. Gu?”

Her aloofness hurt Gu Yeze deeply. He closed his eyes to hide his real emotions.

“Yeze…” Before Gu Yeze made a response, Chu Jiran’s voice came from behind. With a food bag in his hand, he looked at both of them with astonishment.

Gu Yeze also noticed the bag in his hand, his eyes blazing with fury. “Well, you seem to have lived a happy domestic life.” His voice was heavy with sarcasm.

“Yeze… I owe you an apology.” Chu Jiran put down the stuff, making several strides forward. He tried to explain something, but Gu Yeze stopped him.

Gu Yeze instantly concealed all his emotions and replied coldly, “Sorry for breaking into your house without your permission, Mr. Chu. If you want a talk, please contact my secretary.”

After saying that, Gu Yeze stormed off without looking back. Something suddenly occurred to him when he took a few steps away. He fished a key from his pocket, putting it onto the table.

“It’s not appropriate for me, a stranger, to keep your key. I should return it to its original owner.”

When Chu Jiran bought this house, Gu Yeze contributed lots of ideas on how to decorate it. For convenience’s sake, Chu Jiran gave him a key to the house.

They both knew things changed between them now.

“Weijin, are you all right?”

Bai Weijin forced a smile and nodded her head.

“It’s my fault. But for me, your marriage will not end in divorce.” Chu Jiran was filled with guilt and remorse. If he had been a little more alert, everything would be different. ‘But if it was the case, how come I have a chance?’

There was a dark side to anyone’s character. Chu Jiran dared not to continue thinking about this.

“What are you talking about? We’ve had some disagreements before. Even if it didn’t happen to me, we’re still likely to divorce.”
