The underlying reason for their divorce had nothing to do with Chu Jiran. Furthermore, he was also set up in the affair.

Bai Weijin never vented her angry on innocent people. Besides, she was clear that it’s Tan Xin who made mischief behind their back, though Gu Yeze didn’t believe it at all.

An intense atmosphere dominated the room.

To distract Bai Weijin from the sad thoughts, Chu Jiran changed the topic on purpose, saying, “You said you were hungry? Here are some ingredients, and dinner will be ready soon.” He wore a gentle and friendly smile as usual, which Bai Weijin found reassuring.

“Let me help you.”

…

In Gu’s House.

Grandma Gu sat in the main seat, silent and stern in manner. Gu Yeze sitting to her left also wore a grim expression. The deep shadows under his eyes indicated the poor rest he had had these days.

Maid Wu cautiously served them tea and tiptoed away, for fear of disturbing them.

“Yeze, you may have something to say, don’t you?” After a long while, Shi Qian’s voice broke the silence, yet her tone was quite irritating.

Gu Yeze shot her a hard glance, “I don’t think I need to explain anything to you.” He disliked Shi Qian, and thus never treated her politely.

Shi Qian wasn’t surprised at all. Instead, she had a self-satisfied smirk on her face. She was deliberately making things difficult for Gu Yeze.

“I know how you feel, Yeze, but we are after all not a minor family. How can your affair have nothing to do with me after it hit the deadline even? Am I right, Grandma?” Shi Qian asked Grandma Gu, as for looking for her advice earnestly.

Yet Grandma Gu soon recognized her intention, and… She cast a look at a depressed Gu Yelin, his head drooping. The two grandsons didn’t mean equally to her.

So, she replied in a deep voice, “Course you are. It’s a family affair, and we ourselves had better not gossip about it.”

It was like a slap in the face to Shi Qi, leaving her speechless.

Then Grandma Gu turned to look at Gu Yeze, “Have you made up your mind about the divorce?”

Though she had an unreasonable father, Bai Weijin was always a good girl in Grandma Gu’s eyes. However, after the farce, whether it was true or not, Gu family would lose face.

Grandma Gu also considered making them divorce, but it was a big issue that would affect not only the feelings of Gu Yeze and Bai Weijin.

Gu Yeze sat upright, answering in a husky voice, “Yes. We both agree to divorce. There’s no room for negotiation.”

“Grandma, it’s normal for young couples to get a divorce. What’s more, how can Yeze raise other man’s child?”

Before Grandma Gu made a reply, a voice from Gu Yeze suddenly came. He wore a sullen look since entering the house. As a man, he knew clearly what his cousin’s sore spot was as well as how to destroy his dignity.

Obviously, the couple came to make Gu Yeze sick.

As expected, Gu Yeze was almost out of his mind on hearing what Gu Yelin said. Yet before his grandma he managed to hold his anger back.

Gu Yeze fixed his cousin with a cold stare untiled the man got scared. Then he gave a sneer.

“My dear cousin, you may need to worry about yourself rather than me. A word of caution: Don’t put too much emphasis on other people, or you’ll miss the trouble at home.”

“That’s enough!” Grandma Gu struck the chair arm, and the room quieted down. Gu Yelin had to suppressed his anger and shut up.

“You two,” Grandma Gu sized up Gu Yelin and his wife, “Mind your own mouth. Are you coming to make trouble?”

“Sorry, Grandma.” The two reluctantly made an apology.

Waving her hands, Grandma Gu had no intention of telling them off. She turned to look at Gu Yeze, “Yeze, do you have any plan after the divorce?”

His brow wrinkling, Gu Yeze understood what his grandma was hinting at, but…

“Not yet. I can live alone.” What’s on his mind was nothing but memories about Bai Weijin.

“How can that be?” Granma Gu hit her cane. She could barely agree with this. After all, Gu family was a big clan that needed social life, and thus it was necessary for Gu Yeze to take with him a female companion when attending dinner parties. Otherwise, others would say the president of Gu’s Group lost his interest in women after his wife cuckolded him.

“Just leave it to me. I’ll show you a list of good ladies in H city, and you’re gonna meet them when you are free.” Having engaged in business for decades, Grandma Gu had accumulated extensive connections. It was quite natural for her to know a few outstanding lasses who reached marriageable age.

Gu Yeze wearily rubbed his forehead. What had happened these days exhausted him mentally and physically so that he was in mood to get acquainted with other women.

“Don’t, please,” refused Gu Yeze, “I’m too busy to get away.”

‘You’re not too busy. You just don’t want to date other women.’ Grandma Gu sighed. It seemed that the grandson was not so well-behaved as she deemed.

“Meet them when you’re not busy.” She allowed no refusal. In her eyes, marriage was a big deal that couldn’t be done in a hasty way. Wise as Gu Yeze was, he was unskilled at dealing with romance thing. Grandma Gu made up her mind to keep a watchful eye on his remarriage.

“I’ve got to go, Grandma. See you.” Gu Yeze stood up, with no intention of continuing the conversation.

Grandma Gu nodded, giving him a worried look.

Walking out of the house, Gu Yeze drove home expressionless.

As for his grandma’s proposal, Gu Yeze never took it to heart. He habitually turned to the seat next to him, yet it was empty.

‘Damn it, the woman should have such special place in my heart!’

…

Chu Jiran was also concerned about their divorce.

Bai Weijin burst into laughter under his gaze.

“Just say it. You look at me as if I had an incurable disease.”

Amused by what she said, Chu Jiran wore a gentler look on his face. He sat down next to Bai Weijin, but some distance away.

“I just want to ask: Do you really decide to get a divorce?”
