He was clear that Bai Weijin and Gu Yeze loved each other. As much as he hoped that Bai Weijin could get a divorce, Chu Jiran hated to see her live an unhappy life in the future.
Bai Weijin paused. ‘Do I really want a divorce?’
‘But if not, how can I continue to live with a husband who has no trust in me?’
Bai Weijin didn’t want to. Her pride wouldn’t allow her to maintain a nominal marriage, yet before getting divorce, she’s gonna prove her innocence.
The very thought strengthened her resolve.
No matter what others would say, she was clear that she got pregnant by Gu Yeze, and a paternity test was necessary!
Under Chu Jiran’s steady gaze, Bai Weijin opened her mouth.
“Course I do, but my innocence must be proved.”
Chu Jiran felt a sting in his heart, but he knew she was right. Reputation was important for a woman. Even if he didn’t care about it, Chu Jiran didn’t want Bai Weijin to suffer any humiliation.
“Okay,” said he softly, “then you give birth to the baby, and I’ll talk Yeze into doing a test.”
“I won’t wait that long,” Bai Weijin thought differently, “Months later, I’ll do an amniocentesis.”
Amniocentesis could be done when the baby was sixteen weeks old. Bai Weijin didn’t feel like waiting until she gave birth. In that case, she might be taking a lot trouble to handle those stuff when she was lying in.
More importantly, she couldn’t wait so long.
Chu Jiran just nodded, “Ok, it’s up to you.”
His life had undergone a dramatic change since that night when he woke up from the same bed with Bai Weijin. Fate seemed to have played a trick. Things he dared not to attach any extravagant hope to were laid before him in a twinkling of an eye.
He didn’t think much that day. Now looking back into the affair, there must be someone who set them up. In addition, his physical reaction indicated nothing had happened between Bai Weijin and him.
Chu Jiran was always the voice of reason. Despite his deep love for Bai Weijin, he maintained his composure and ability to think rationally in the case.
But… Now the women he loved stood in front of him, visible and tangible.
Something suddenly occurred to Chu Jiran, “By the way, have you decided which country to go?”
Bai Weijin thought for a moment before shaking her head, “No, it doesn’t matter about the destination.”
Before Bai family fell into decline, she lived a quite good life, but not so good to travel abroad. Du Meihua would not allow it. Bai Weijin even had no passport.
Having lost her parents and soon her husband, Bai Weijin was in no mood to think about where she would go. Every country except her homeland was totally foreign to her.
Chu Jiran felt sorry for her when he noticed a trace of loneliness in her eyes. He tried to steer the conversation away from the topic.
“Since you’ve made up your mind, how about going abroad after you deliver your baby? It’s hard for pregnant women to go through the customs. You might as well leave the country after you get well.”
Bai Weijin found what Chu Jiran said was quite reasonable and agreed.
…
Night Bar.
The music was too loud. There were couples on the floor dancing lively. It was dark outside, while the nightlife here just began.
Gu Yeze sat on a sofa in the bar, drinking out of sheer boredom. A good drinker, he became even more sober after draining several glasses.
He himself couldn’t figure out why he came here. Maybe to keep his mind off things.
He would like to drown his sorrows, only to find that the more he drank, the more vivid picture of Bai Weijin’s he had in his mind.
Anyone who knew Gu Yeze would be very surprised to see the proud man drank himself drunk, just like an ordinary person who was disappointed in love.
“Look, what a handsome guy!”
Even if nobody knew who he was, his striking features made him the center of attention. A few girls in the bar talked animatedly.
“Besides being handsome, he wears a limited edition of the watch. It’s hard to come by.”
“Wow, sounds great!”
Chatting with gusto, the girls fixed Gu Yeze with a greedy stare, as if he were a rare delicacy.
Soon, a girl walked towards him with a rolling gait, trying to strike up a conversation.
“Hey, man, buy me a drink?”
Half-drunk, Gu Yeze seemed to feel someone come closer. ‘Is it Bai Weijin?’
‘No, it cannot be her. She doesn’t care about me.’
Being ignored, the girl tried to lean against him. Her ample breasts were gonna pop out of her dress.
Gu Yeze frowned, giving her a hard push. He hated the strong smell of perfume.
“Get out!” Gu Yeze shouted in fury. The girl was scared out of seducing him.
Gu Yeze staggered out of the bar. His driver ran to support him. It seemed that he needed to drive his drunken employee home again.
The driver put Gu Yeze in the back seat, asking cautiously, “Mr. Gu, are you going home?”
‘Going home? Once upon a time the woman would wait for him at home, yet now there’s nobody but him alone.’
Gu Yeze knitted his brow, heaving a sigh, “Yeah.”
As the car sped along the road, the trees on both sides receded into the distance. A cool breeze was blowing, making Gu Yeze sober up.
Suddenly, Chu Jiran’s home came into sight—a place they would certainly pass by on the way back to Gu Yeze’s villa.
Gu Yeze dropped his gaze. ‘How’s she here?’ As soon as the idea flashed through his mind, he gave a sneer.
‘Wherever she is, Bai Weijin will take care of herself.’
The driver noticed his look, asking considerately, “Mr. Gu, shall we stop?”
Gu Yeze shot him an icy glare, “Do I give any order?”
The driver immediately apologized, “I’m sorry, Mr. Gu. I shouldn’t have asked you.”
