Hours later, the door of the operating room was finally opened.

“Where’s Bai Weijin’s family?”

“Here!”

Having replied in unison, Chu Jiran and Gu Yeze exchanged astonished glances before hurrying over. Yet neither opened his mouth to talk.

Dazzled by their good looks, the young nurse started to be curious about the pregnant woman in the ward.

‘Who is she to make these two men completely infatuated?’

Despite her eagerness to know, she reported the news as she always did.

“She’s given birth to a boy. More than eight pounds.”

“Wow!”

Chu Jiran gave a rousing cheer, while Gu Yeze remained silent. ‘But for him, I may have a child now…’

Somehow, Gu Yeze felt down. There’s a trace of joy emerging from his heart after its birth, which he himself didn’t realize yet.

“Now that everything goes well,” Gu Yeze said coldly, “I got to. A lot of work to do.”

“Hold on a second!” Chu Jiran suddenly opened his mouth.

Gu Yeze paused, with a withering look in his eyes. ‘What? Are you gonna share your happiness with me?’

Chu Jiran looked quite embarrassed, scratching his head, “Well, I’ve decided to stay here to take care of Yeyu.”

Gu Yeze waited for him to continue.

“But in that case, Weijin will go abroad alone. She needs a company.”

“I’ve thought for a while, and your personal doctor, Yan Qing, comes to my mind. Could you please lend him to me?”

Upon hearing the name, Gu Yeze knitted his brows. ‘Why him?’

“I need a reason,” he replied drily.

Chu Jiran paused, for he thought Gu Yeze would immediately say yes. He then explained his request.

“Yan Qing is kind of a childhood friend of yours. You two grow up together. Besides, Yan family is loyal to your clan for always. We can rest assured that he will take good care of Weijin, can’t we?”

There’s some reason in what he said. Yan Qing was indeed the best candidate for the job. But intuition told Gu Yeze that he was by no means as simple as he seemed.

Worse still, he was… dangerous.

“What’s wrong with you?” Chu Jiran looked anxious, asking, “Do you want her stay there uncared for?”

On hearing what he said, Bai Weijin’s face, stubborn and determined, flashed through Gu Yeze’s head.

his thoughts were in a total turmoil.

“I know,” Gu Yeze answered impatiently, “I’ll let Yan Qing know later. Now I gotta go.”

He strode off as fast as he could, for fear that he would completely lose control if staying for another minute.

It was two days since Bai Weijin had the surgery. She was still in a coma, which worried Chu Jiran a lot. He had been at her bedside all the while.

‘Hmm…cannot lift my eyelids…’

Bai Weijin felt she was in a darkness, a darkness that she found no way to break away from, no matter how hard she struggled.

‘Oh, I see. I’m delivering…’

Suddenly, Bai Weijin opened her eyes, waking up in sweats and gasping for air. She looked around.

Unfamiliar as the ceiling was, the smell of the disinfectant reminded Bai Weijin that she was in a hospital.

She would like to turn over in bed, only to find that her lower limbs were completely numb. The only things she could do were blinking and speaking.

‘Seems that delivering a baby is such a… horrible thing.’

“…Water…”

Bai Weijin spoke in a tiny voice so that many took no notice of what she said, except Chu Jiran.

He was always on high alert for any emergency, and naturally, her voice didn’t escape his ear.

“Weijin, you wake up?” Chu Jiran felt elated, “Is that water? Hold on, I’ll get one bottle for you.”

After the delivery, Bai Weijin was in frail health. Chu Jiran had to feed water to her with a spoon.

Her thirst was quenched.

With the water trickling down her throat, Bai Weijin regained some strength.

She opened her mouth, “Where’s my child? How’s he doing?”

Chu Jiran was stupefied, then gave an understanding smile. He took a baby from the cot and pressed it to Bai Weijin.

“Look, now you have an over-eight-pound healthy baby boy.”

The baby was fast asleep, but the moment he was brought to Bai Weijin’s bedside, the little thing got the giggles, as if feeling the blood ties between them.

As other newborns, the baby had a wrinkled face, which might seem a little ugly, but Bai Weijin felt it’s the most beautiful smile she had ever seen.

The smile brought sunshine into her heart, dispelling all her sadness and displeasure. A sense of inexplicable happiness came over Bai Weijin.

It seemed that… all she had suffered paid off.

Bai Weijin looked blankly at the baby. Chu Jiran had to call her attention, “Weijin, you have yet to give him a name.”

“Do you have one?”

‘Name?’ Bai Weijin answered with a smile, “Course I have.”

“Gu Baiqi.”

Chu Jiran was dumbfounded. ‘Named after his father? Why?”

After all, he didn’t ask the question. ‘Who am I to question her? I can even not give her any promise now. What’s more, she has the very right to determine her child’s surname.’

“Does it… have any special meaning?” Chu Jiran rephrased his question.

‘Any special meaning?’ Bai Weijin looked out of the window. ‘It does have, but not a good one.”

‘There’s no point in letting him know.’

“No,” she answered drily, “It just suddenly came to my mind. Plus, I don’t want to waste my energy working with a name.”

Intuition told Chu Jiran she didn’t tell the truth, but given her unwillingness to talk about it, he gave up the enquiry.

Sometimes, it might be better not to know.
