Bai Hongbo’s voice came. The two exchanged greetings and had a chat on the phone.

If Yan Liwei was a real villain, then Bai Hongbo a downright hypocrite.

“Bro, frankly speaking, I’ve got a problem with my company. Could you please lend me some money for capital turnover?” Bai Hongbo had been beating about the bush before he came to the point.

Weary of Bai Hongbo’s roundabout way of talking, Yan Liwei replied perfunctorily, “I’m so sorry to hear that, but there’s also something wrong with Yan’s Group, so I’m afraid I can do nothing to help.”

Word hadn’t got around that Gu Yeze was about to acquire Yan’s Group, so Bai Hongbo had no idea of it. He thought that Yan Liwei must have been unwilling to lend a hand. ‘It was him that tried every means to seek cooperation with Bai family before yet turns his back on me now.’

Bai Hongbo’s face took on a ghastly expression. He had a quick word with Yan Liwei and hung up.

…

After parting with Gu Yeze, Bai Weijin had been completely devoted to her work with single-minded determination.

It was time to knock off before she realized it.

The crowd was suddenly in a tumult. Bai Weijin raised her head from the papers and looked out.

Due to her limited field of vision, she could only see them gaze in a certain direction. Some had excitement written on their faces, while others shyness.

Bai Weijin counted backwards: three, two, one…

As expected, Gu Yeze emerged from outside.

Unmoved by the infatuation of those women, he walked toward Bai Weijin’s office.

Gu Yeze pushed open the door while the whole company was gossiping about them.

“Director Bai couldn’t have fallen out of favor with President. It’s obvious that he cares about her so much.”

“God, he even comes to pick her up in person!”

“I said they just had a quarrel the other day, but you don’t believe me!”

Gu Yeze also heard what they said. A smile lifted the corners of his mouth, “Let’s go home, my dear wife.”

Bai Weijin almost choked on water she had drunk.

Why didn’t he speak in a normal way?

Gu Yeze continued, “Would you like to work at President’s Office?”

“…” Bai Weijin pretended not to hear it. If she worked directly under him, what would others think of her?

…

Yan Sheng’s condition had been improving, and he could move about on the floor with the help of others now.

He couldn’t wait to be discharged from hospital.

Though not so influential as Gu Yeze, Yan Sheng was something of a celebrity in H City, yet these days he became an object of ridicule in the hospital.

At his repeated request, his mom had no alternative but to agree.

With two assistants holding him by the arm, Yan Sheng finally arrived home.

He didn’t feel like living in the company where others saw him as a clown.

As soon as he entered the house, Yan Sheng found Bai Yinya standing in the living room, looking pretty fierce.

Since their wedding, he scarcely ever lived with Bai Yinya. Yan Sheng even wondered why he was so blind as not to be aware of her true colors.

He deliberately ignored her, ordering his assistant to take him upstairs.

“Wait, Yan Sheng!” Bai Yinya screamed at him.

Yet Yan Sheng turned away, pretending not to hear her. Bai Yinya dashed to him, “Yan family and Bai family are in the same boat. Do you really think you can escape unscathed if anything untoward should happen?”

Yan Sheng found the woman who unleashed all her ferocity totally unfamiliar to him. If he had known her stupidity would bring Yan family into trouble, he would never have married her.

“But for your wrongdoing, Yan family couldn’t have sunk deep into the mire.” Yan Sheng looked at Bai Yinya with disgust.

It was not until now that Bai Yinya saw through the selfishness of Yan Sheng. She sneered, “But for our wrongdoing? Can you have forgotten what you did that night?”

The remarks touched Yan Sheng’s raw nerve, and he dropped all pretense, “I want a divorce.”

Divorce? Bai Yinya’s eyes popped with anger. How could Yan Sheng sever his ties with Bai family when they fell into dire straits?

“Are you kidding? If Bai family collapses, you would definitely go to rack and ruin.”

Bai Yinya was going mental.

Yan Sheng looked at her as if seeing a lunatic, “Whatever you say.”

Yan family would go to rack and ruin? Impossible! It was definitely beyond Gu Yeze’s power.

By this time Bai Yinya was almost hysterical. Yan Sheng ignored her, grabbed at his assistants’ shoulders for support and went upstairs.

“It’ll end in tears, Yan Sheng!”

…

“Me? In charge of it?” Bai Weijin repeated Gu Yeze’s words.

“That’s right. Don’t you want to beat off your enemy personally?” Gu Yeze picked up the chopsticks and lifted a piece of fish into Bai Weijin’s bowl.

Bai Weijin knew Gu Yeze wouldn’t let Yan’s Group off, and thought that he himself might fix Yan Sheng, so she never brought up her wish to deal with Yan’s Group.

“Of course I want.” Bai Weijin readily accepted the task.

No sooner had she arrived home than Bai Weijin began to sort through the files Gu Yeze sent to her by computer.

Gu Yeze had a bath and approached her, “What are you doing?”

“Don’t disturb me. I’m in a rush now.” Bai Weijin pushed Gu Yeze’s face away.

Gu Yeze’s mouth twitched slightly.

He snapped her laptop shut, “It’s time to sleep.”

Gu Yeze turned off her computer before she pressed the ‘Save’ key, which made Bai Weijin burst into anger, “Gu Ye-ze!”

Infuriated by her scolding, Gu Yeze bent down and scooped up the woman, “Say no more! Go to bed, now!”

Bai Weijin was offended by his behavior, but she was certainly no match for him in strength, thus being gotten into bed by Gu Yeze.

She wore a sullen look next day.

Zhang Lanxin didn’t nag Bai Weijin but handed her some documents and backed out.

Bai Weijin looked through them and continued to check what were left last night.

Gu’s Group was like a great tree with luxuriant foliage. There was a miscellaneous assortment of businesses in its name, and it worked in partnership with numerous enterprises.

Bai Weijin ordered that the cooperation between those enterprises and Yan’s Group be rescinded.

There was something wrong with all of Yan’s Group’s industrial chains, and most of its clients demanded to cancel their orders.

Yan’s Group was soon about to be eaten away bit by bit. Bai Weijin finally finished her work at hand and heaved a sigh of relief.

When she was young, she was taught to be a tolerant and kind person. Bai Weijin stuck to the principle since then, yet she found it was of no use.

From now on, she would sort out those who offended her or who wanted to do her harm and would not let anyone get away with it.

It struck Bai Weijin that she seemed to annoy Gu Yeze last night.
