The shares of Yan’s Group crashed.
Bai Weijin sat in front of the computer watching the stock market of H City closely. She could even imagine how Yan Sheng and his father looked now.
As expected, the two were in a sorry plight.
“Stop dithering, Dad! Given the circumstances, Yan’s Group cannot endure it any longer.”
“You silly fool, I can’t believe you are so naïve as to trust his promise! Even so, we’ll be held up by him!” Yan Liwei was clear about what his son had in mind.
“It might be better if we give away part of Yan’s Group to him. Dad, do you want it to disappear altogether? It was the out-and-out fruit of your labor.”
His words finally touched a raw nerve.
Yan Liwei hesitated for a while before he made up his mind.
“Go ahead!”
There were no other solutions but to take a gamble.
…
Bai Weijin noticed an odd rally in the stock values of Yan’s Group.
To her astonishment, Yan’s that was on the verge of collapse a few days ago actually restored economic vitality.
It seemed to have an injection of boundless energy. In addition to recovery of stock prices, its broken funding chain was renewed, and each project was in normal working order.
“Hi, Gu Yeze.”
“I already knew it.” He replied in a calm tone.
His words reassured Bai Weijin who was somewhat anxious.
“There must be a reason behind it. Don’t slack off but work harder. I’ll send my people to investigate the matter,” added Gu Yeze.
“Ok.”
Bai Weijin ordered her subordinates to continue to weaken Yan’s Group’s stock shares.
As to Yan Sheng, his depression totally dissipated. Watching the stable advances of the stock prices, he gave a chuckle.
“Humph, Gu Yeze is merely a mediocre man.”
The massive flow of funds gave Yan’s Group a breathing space.
Mo Kaige was rather contemptuous of his arrogance, “Don’t take your enemy lightly. Gu Yeze isn’t easy to deal with.”
“Now the company is temporarily safe, and when will we deal with Gu Yeze?” Yan Sheng turned a deaf ear to his warning and eagerly wanted to drive Gu Yeze into the mire.
“Now is not the time.”
“When is?” Yan Sheng questioned him closely.
Mo Kaige was growing impatient with his questions, picking up the cigarettes on the table and standing up, “I have to go. I’ll inform you of it when the time is ripe.”
…
Gu Yeze gave a snort when he hung up.
Mo Kaige.
Though he never had any dealings with the man, Gu Yeze had heard of this guy, one who enjoyed an enviable reputation in the circle. Yet why did Mo Kaige mix with such a despicable man as Yan Sheng?
Did Yan Sheng really think he could have a lucky escape with the assistance of Mo Kaige?
Mo Kaige was not the only one who had underworld connections. Before Gu Yeze brought him to account in terms of business affairs, Yan Sheng seemed to eagerly get involved in the illegal undertakings.
He was overrating his abilities.
Gu Yeze made a call to Chu Jiran, “Lend me that batch of men.”
Chu Jiran adjourned the meeting when he saw the caller ID.
He felt surprised at Gu Yeze’s request, “What’s up?”
A few years ago, Gu Yeze had entrusted a gang of men to Chu Jiran, and he took those people to Italy, a paradise for underworld activities.
Gu Yeze replied shortly, “Mo Kaige.”
Chu Jiran was greatly astonished, wondering why Mo Kaige who never meddled in affairs outside the underworld joined Yan family for the act. He was well aware that Gu Yeze had launched a severe attack on Yan’s these days.
For Gu Yeze, beating a small company should be a piece of cake, so Chu Jiran didn’t take it to heart.
But things would become complicated when gang members were involved.
“I’ll get them assembled in half a day. Mind out, you can’t be too careful now.”
“Ok.” Gu Yeze was perfectly composed.
Bai Weijin also had a lot to do.
Since the plan of cutting off the capital chain of Yan’s Group didn’t work, she began to inquire into whether it did something unlawful.
Zhang Lanxin stood by Bai Weijin’s desk, waiting for her instruction.
It was the first time that Bai Weijin assigned her such important work. According to her investigation, Yan’s must have made crooked business deals in a few of its projects where some dirty tricks were presumably used.
It seemed that Yan’s had colluded with underworld gangs more than once, and they often employed illegal forces to gain profits in the grey area.
“Sister Bai, you can rest assured that I’ll fulfill my task to your satisfaction.”
Bai Weijin was amused by her state of constant readiness, giving a word of caution, “Don’t push it. If you encounter some problems related to the grey area, report it to me, in case you would be in danger.”
Zhang Lanxin nodded her hand and then trotted out.
…
Agitated, Bai Weijin rushed a bowl of noodles for dinner.
Gu Yeze stared at the meagre meal on the table, his lips curling, “What’s this?”
“Noodles.”
“Are you gonna palm off this stuff on me?’
Gu Yeze was behaving like a spoiled child. Bai Weijin retorted, “Then what would you like? A slap-up dinner? Don’t kid yourself!”
Gu Yeze looked long-faced, “A mere small company upset you?”
Bai Weijin rolled her eyes.
“Let me tell you one thing—I wasn’t upset by it at all. Yan’s has made a lot of dirty money through illegal business activities, and I’ve asked my people to work on it.”
Gu Yeze looked at her, “You finally realize it, but it’s too late.”
Bai Weijin paused for a moment.
“I’ve had in hand all the proof of Yan’s Group’s dirty tricks,” replied Gu Yeze in a careless way. He took a bite of the noodles with a dissatisfied frown.
Bai Weijin was pleasantly surprised.
“Why not go public with it?”
“We’d better deliver a death blow to the company. It’s of no use launching a perfunctory counterblow.”
Gu Yeze spat an eggshell out, looking askance at Bai Weijin.
‘Well… I didn’t mean it.” Bai Weijin took no notice of the eggshell.
“So, what are you gonna do?”
“You don’t have to worry about it. Remember that you’re my wife and that you don’t need to worry about anything, including Yan’s Group.” Gu Yeze answered.
Bai Weijin looked into the eyes of the proud man. Indeed, she had seldomly been obsessing over something since they struck up a “partnership”.
In contrast to the past, she was now under his wing.
Bai Weijin teased him, “Then what am I gonna do? Be an idler?”
Gu Yeze cast her a glance and put down the chopsticks.
He walked up to Bai Weijin, holding her in his arms and striding towards the sofa.
“What you are gonna do is… To fulfill your duty to your husband.” After saying that, Gu Yeze dropped a kiss on her lips.
Bai Weijin was taken aback, “Gu Yeze! Have your dinner first!”
“I’m having my dinner…”
