Gu Yeze gave the dustbin a good kick when Bai Weijin left.

The employees who passed by dared say nothing, all pretending not to see him, for fear that he would take it out on them.

Nevertheless, there were several bold people coming up to show off, “President… Can I be of any service?” All of them received the same reply, “Beat it!”.

Bai Weijin came back with a face like thunder. Zhang Lanxin popped in to talk with her, yet the sight of Bai Weijin’s black face prompted her to run away in a second.

The dumb girl mumbled to herself while stepping outwards, “Why Sister Bai becomes so angry after a trip to the 23rd floor? Her look really scares me. Did she catch President flirting with another woman?”

Bai Weijin darted her a cold glance. Zhang Lanxin immediately covered her mouth with one hand in a mouth-shutting gesture.

The glance terrified Zhang Lanxin. She decided not to bother Bai Weijin any longer.

The moment she seated herself at her desk and heaved a sigh of relief, Bai Weijin’s voice came from the Director’s Office, “Zhang Lanxin.”

Her heart being in her mouth, Zhang Lanxin walked into the office at a snail’s pace and was asked by Bai Weijin not to dawdle.

Zhang Lanxin finally entered the room. Bai Weijin threw a piece of paper to her. It was about the project mentioned.

“Sort through the data and prepare a statement by this afternoon.”

Zhang Lanxin took the document.

“Go to work! Why are you still here?” Bai Weijin saw Zhang Lanxin stand still and rushed her.

No sooner had she finished talking than Zhang Lanxin nipped away.

There were no other people in the office. Bai Weijin tossed her pen onto the desk and sank into a chair.

The image of what had happened at Gu Yeze’s office came to mind. Bai Weijin started to recall when Gu Yeze stayed with another woman for the last time.

It was at the banquet that she had misunderstood Zhang Ranran and him. At that time Bai Weijin simply felt a little vexed.

Yet today she was unusually sad and was even on the verge of tears when seeing them so close. Nevertheless, Gu Yeze didn’t notice her sadness, and she would never let anyone find her weakness.

She had no idea when Gu Yeze began to have such a special place in her heart.

They were busy with work and seldom saw each other in the daytime. Once in a while they would join forces to beat their rivals off.

In the evening they went home, had dinner together… and then, well, go to bed with each other.

Gradually, Gu Yeze had become part of her life.

In retrospect, the reason why she tried to avoid a closer relationship with Gu Yeze lay in her unwillingness to fight for the affection of a man who was likely to be romantically involved with more than one woman.

She should not have grown affectionate towards Gu Yeze. It was time to bring the romantic relationship to a halt.

Bai Weijin gently closed her eyes.

‘I wish it’s not too late to part with him.’

Having marshalled her thoughts, Bai Weijin shook her head and began to devote herself to the work. She was not the indecisive kind. Since she made up her mind, she would not take it to heart from now on.

A person turned up uninvited.

It was Jiang Sisi. Zhang Lanxin showed her into the office, to find that Bai Weijin’s face fell.

Intuition told her Bai Weijin’s unhappiness might have something to do with Jiang Sisi.

Bai Weijin laid aside the document at hand, shooting a glance at Jiang Sisi, “What can I do for you?”

Jiang Sisi gnashed her teeth. If Bai Weijin hadn’t burst in, she could have had an intercourse with President. More disappointingly, Gu Yeze followed Bai Weijin out in the end.

Later, she went upstairs but didn’t see him.

His assistant Luo Nan told her to put in order available materials and gave them to Director Bai.

Luo Nan was acting under instructions from Gu Yeze. Despite her dissatisfaction, Jiang Sisi dared not ignore his order and came to hand the document to Bai Weijin “personally”.

By the way, to extend her “regards”.

Jiang Sisi cleared her throat, speaking in a rather affected voice, “President let me hand it to you in person, so…”

Through her ambiguous remarks, Bai Weijin could tell that she asked for Gu Yeze once more.

A trace of a grim smile crossed Bai Weijin’s face, making Zhang Lanxin swallow nervously.

“Well, it seems that your efforts to run the project have been unsuccessful, Director Jiang. After all, it is in my charge now.”

The words touched Jiang Sisi’s raw nerve. But she immediately put on a smiling face.

“I have so much work to do. President doesn’t want me to work overtime every day and thus assigned it to you.”

Her words sickened even Zhang Lanxin, who chipped in, “Who are you to make President concerned? Are you his wife?”

Jiang Sisi turned to glare at Zhang Lanxin.

Yet her scowl was not half so threatening as that of Bai Weijin. Zhang Lanxin returned her glare fearlessly.

Jiang Sisi smiled, “Forget it. I get to go, there’s a lot of work to do.”

Bai Weijin disdained to cast her any glance, feeling the room stank since Jiang Sisi entered it.

“Goodbye, Director Jiang. Remember to take a rest, or those things may wear you down.”

Jiang Sisi knew what she referred to and got angry, “You!”

Bai Weijin could be exasperating when in a foul temper. She turned away to say to Zhang Lanxin, “Open the windows to let in some fresh air and mop the floor.”

Zhang Lanxin immediately ran out while replying, “Ok!”

She was hinting that Jiang Sisi dirtied the room, while the latter, for fear of her identity, dared not do real harm to Bai Weijin but put up with it.

When Jiang Sisi walked out of the office, she was “accidentally” hit by the mop in Zhang Lanxin’s hand. The girl stuck her tongue out at Jiang Sisi, “I’m sorry, Director Jiang.”

Jiang Sisi stormed off.

Bai Weijin was less unhappy when seeing her flee helter-skelter.

Zhang Lanxin immediately came up, and Bai Weijin was browsing through the document Jiang Sisi had sent over.

“Humph!” Bai Weijin gave a snort.

“What’s wrong, Sister Bai?” Zhang Lanxin ran over with a mop in her hand.

“She gave us an incomplete document.”

Zhang Lanxin flung the mop onto the ground, “What a nuisance! I should have taught her a lesson just now!”

Bai Weijin frowned. Zhang Lanxin thumped her chest, saying, “Sister Bai, you can rest assured that I’ll certainly get the whole document from her! I’m expert at handling situations like this.”
