As expected, Gu’s Group won the bid. Both Bai Weijin’s best-laid plan and Gu Yeze’s effective presentation achieved the desired result.

For all the event Bai Weijin’s eyes were fixed on Gu Yeze.

Both sides entered a contract. Bai Weijin gazed into the backup document, lost in meditation.

She had been in the habit of making copies of all the documents.

Once upon a time, she had been a staffer of Bai’s Group with Bai Yinya working under her. The woman coveted her position but found no ways to surpass Bai Weijin in terms of either performance or competence.

A man who valued material gains, Bai Hongbo was pretty satisfied with the big profits Bai Weijin had ever made. But the man had always favored Bai Yinya and turned a blind eye to how she secretly bullied Bai Weijin.

The exactly same mean trick as someone did to her today.

Bai Yinya had then changed her materials in the hope of making a fool of her at the meeting.

When she was young and naive, Bai Weijin fell straight into the trap and everyone was pointing the finger at her. Bai Hongbo was aware that it had something to do with Bai Yinya.

Yet he still reproached Bai Weijin for muffing the conference.

From then on, Bai Weijin realized that she could count upon nobody but herself. Stupid as Bai Yinya was, Du Meihua was backing her up.

Bai Weijin never let down her guard for an instant, for she was clear that she had to fight a lone battle.

She was deep in thought when Zhang Lanxin tugged at her sleeve.

Gu Yeze came over. Bai Weijin felt it necessary to express her thanks for all he’d done, though she could have managed it herself.

However, Gu Yeze brushed past her without a glance.

He acted as if telling her: Why do you think I lent you a hand? It’s just for the good of Gu’s Group.

Zhang Lanxin gazed at Gu Yeze in blank astonishment, “Sister Bai, haven’t you made up with President yet?”

Bai Weijin’s face fell. “I’ve thought you’re on good terms again”, Zhang Lanxin muttered to herself.

The bidding was over, and the result proved mutually satisfactory.

Bai Weijin laid aside the bitter memories of the past as well as sadness at Gu Yeze’s cavalier attitude.

She needed to bestir herself and chasten the one who had altered her slide.

Jiang Sisi flied into a temper in her office.

Her plot to embarrass Bai Weijin by changing her slide failed. As it turned out, Bai Weijin successfully won the bid.

Before Xiaowei made any utterance, Jiang Sisi shouted abuse at her, “How could you make a pig’s ear of the thing?”

“I’ve made a change to the statistics.”

Jiang Sisi screamed out, “You’ve made a change? Then why she succeeded?”

Xiaowei gave no further explanation, for she hadn’t been there and thus had no idea what had happened. However, Jiang Sisi considered her slack in the work, which made her feel deeply aggrieved.

“What a shame you’ve missed the opportunity. Fail once more, and you’ll be fired.”

“I get it,” answered Xiaowei in a tearful voice, though she tried hard to suppress her resentment.

Distraught, Jiang Sisi sent Xiaowei away and sank into a chair. She wondered what she could do next to upset the applecart of Bai Weijin.

She didn’t notice Xiaowei gave her a hostile glare while turning away. Even if she did, Jiang Sisi wouldn’t have taken it to heart, for she never cared what her subordinates thought.

Her head bowed, Xiaowei walked out of Jiang Sisi’s office when someone approached her.

It was Bai Weijin that came to settle all accounts with Jiang Sisi.

Xiaowei pretended not to see her. She neither stopped Bai Weijin nor let Jiang Sisi know her coming.

Jiang Sisi was thinking of something when the door burst open. She looked up, to find that Bai Weijin stepped towards her.

“You must be disappointed with the foiled scheme, Director Jiang. Yet it seems that your spirits haven’t been dampened at all.”

Bai Weijin’s voice came even before she entered the room.

Jiang Sisi answered through gritted teeth, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Bai Weijin struck the desk, which gave Jiang Sisi a good scare. Then she pressed close to Jiang Sisi, and the latter couldn’t help but retreat.

Jiang Sisi had to admit that Bai Weijin was an out-and-out beauty, though she hated to think this way.

“You’d better clean up your act before I get some clues against you, because if it’s the case, I’ll never let you off lightly.”

Jiang Sisi turned pale and got increasingly scared, while she stubbornly insisted, “I’ve done nothing wrong. You’re slinging mud at me!”

Bai Weijin got up when she spotted a hangdog expression on Jiang Sisi’s face.

The probing just confirmed Jiang Sisi in her suspicion that Jiang Sisi had changed the materials, though she didn’t have the evidence to prove that.

“Don’t you have any work, Director Bai? Please leave me alone, for I have a lot of work to be done.” Different from how she treated Xiaowei just now, Jiang Sisi started to sweat bullets.

Her brain began to function. ‘The incriminating evidence has been destroyed, and according to Xiaowei, there’s no trace left on Bai Weijin’s computer.’

‘Even if Bai Weijin has superhuman skill, she cannot blame me groundlessly.’ The very thought finally made her calm down.

Bai Weijin cast her a sidelong glance and left composed, leaving Jiang Sisi in a cold sweat.

Xiaowei heard the whole conversation at the door.

Seeing Bai Weijin walk out, she immediately slipped into a cubicle and seemed lost in thought.

Back into the office, Bai Weijin finally relaxed her vigilance.

As soon as she relaxed, memories of Gu Yeze sprang to mind. Bai Weijin had no choice but to turn her attention to anything else.

She even went to Jiang Sisi’s office to give her a good scolding.

She had a divorce settlement drawn up, which was placed within her reach.

Bai Weijin looked at the paper her lawyer handed her in the morning. She had originally planned to give it to Gu Yeze after the bidding.

Yet by now she had lost the courage to send it up.
