She was pondering when someone bumped against her.
“Weijin!” A shrill voice came from behind. A girl in a red dress dashed towards Bai Weijin and Zhang Lanxin.
Why was Gu Yeyu here?
“I’ve pestered my brother until he told me where your office is. He even threatened to kick me out if I delayed your work.”
Gu Yeyu was talking nonsense.
Actually, it bugged Gu Yeze that she kept asking him whether they had a quarrel yesterday. He pushed Gu Yeyu out of his office, and the girl wailed that she was gonna tell on him before her sister-in-law.
Then she asked one staffer about where Bai Weijin was and ran over to pour out her woes.
People working at Gu’s mostly knew her, greeting her with smiles.
Zhang Lanxin came to Gu’s only months ago and hadn’t heard of Gu Yeyu before. She was staring at Gu Yeyu with curiosity.
The two girls hit it off within minutes.
“Weijin, I wanna visit your office.” Gu Yeyu drew Bai Weijin in.
Gu Yeyu looked around the room and suddenly fixed her gaze on the desk.
“What’s this?”
Bai Weijin was worried stiff the moment Gu Yeyu picked up the document.
It was the divorce settlement her lawyer helped draft. She hurried to check the videos this morning and forgot to put it away.
Now it was too late. Gu Yeyu began to go through the paper.
Zhang Lanxin also leaned over to take a look.
The two girls soon regretted having skimmed the document. After a long while, Gu Yeyu turned to look at Bai Weijin.
It was not until now that she understood why her brother loved Bai Weijin.
She was exactly like her brother when they got angry.
“I…” Gu Yeyu dared not act rashly.
Bai Weijin uttered no word, throwing the copy into the shredder.
Gu Yeyu finally let out a sigh of relief while watching the paper shredded page by page. She liked the sister-in-law and didn’t want the latter and her brother to divorce each other anyway.
Someone turned up uninvited.
It was Xiaowei coming. Zhang Lanxin raised her head, suddenly alert. Gu Yeyu also became vigilant, ready to protect the two girls beside her.
The presence of these three astonished Xiaowei. She hesitated for a while and came in.
“Why are you here?”
“It’s rude to say so, Lanxin.” Bai Weijin made a rough guess at what Zhang Lanxin had come for.
Zhang Lanxin was stupefied by Bai Weijin’s words. ‘Why is Sister Bai so kind to the woman who bullied her?”
Xiaowei took out a USB flash disk from her pocket after some shillyshallying and handed it to Bai Weijin.
Zhang Lanxin took a deep breath, as if the disk was a time bomb, while Bai Weijin accepted it with composure.
As soon as it was done, Xiaowei walked out of the room with lowered eyes.
Gu Yeyu and Zhang Lanxin came up, both guessing what was inside. Gu Yeyu thought it was a video threat and suggested it be sent to Gu Yeze.
Zhang Lanxin considered it a virus and insisted that Bai Weijin’s computer would be attacked when the disk was linked to it.
Each stood her ground, while Bai Weijin sized the little thing up.
She recalled the grim smile on Xiaowei’s face when the latter left.
There was no doubt that the contents of the disk must have something to do with Jiang Sisi. “Check it and we’ll know what’s contained within,” said Bai Weijin.
Zhang Lanxin couldn’t help holding her breath when Bai Weijin plugged the disk into her computer.
There turned out to be no virus but a video when they scanned its storage. Bai Weijin clicked on the video.
Also, it wasn’t a video threat but a clip from video surveillance.
Bai Weijin’s suspicions were confirmed as they watched it. Zhang Lanxin exclaimed excitedly, “Great! Now she’ll be doomed.”
Gu Yeyu was still in confusion, and Zhang Lanxin explained it to her, “A few days ago, someone falsified our document ready for the bidding. According to the video, it was Jiang Sisi who sneaked into Sister Bai’s office and tampered with her laptop.”
Gu Yeyu’s face darkened, “She’s really a rat!”
But why would Xiaowei send the video to Bai Weijin at the risk of exposing herself to criticism?
“Jiang Sisi always heaps abuse on her people and scarcely cares about their feelings. Even worse, Xiaowei is often made a scapegoat for what she’s told to do. So, I’ve fully expected that Jiang Sisi would be turned against one day.”
She added with a sneer, “Despair can drive a dog to bite a man, and the bite by your household dog hurts most.”
Zhang Lanxin suddenly saw the light.
…
Many wondered whether there was something wrong with the bidding so that Gu Yeze substituted for Bai Weijin halfway.
A video went viral within Gu’s Group this afternoon.
It caused a stir among its staffers, and stories abounded of what Jiang Sisi had done.
Jiang Sisi sank into a chair in utter despair.
The door was pushed open.
Xiaowei came in. Jiang Sisi was in no mood to censure Xiaowei for not deleting all the surveillance videos. She even didn’t think of the possibility of Xiaowei betraying her.
“Director, what should we do now?” Xiaowei asked while bowing her head in case of exposing her real feelings.
Jiang Sisi was completely at a loss. She feared that the news would soon reach Gu Yeze’s ears, for he never took a soft line with people who acted against the company’s interests.
People were gossiping about her outside the door. Jiang Sisi had antagonized too many people, and no one was willing to defend her.
Xiaowei was glad to see the arrogant woman Jiang Sisi became a target for scorn. She believed that the woman would be kicked off the group within the next few days.
