Chapter 102- Apocalypse (3)
“What kind of car is this?” Gu Anran stared hesitantly at the contraption in front of her. The car was entirely black and even if one pushed themselves right against the windows they would be unable to see inside. When one knocked on the glass, a dull, dense sound rang out suggesting that the glass was probably made of bulletproof material. The car itself looked much more sturdy than an ordinary car. If someone was to crash into this all-black car, all the damage would be borne by that unlucky car that crashed into it. Although Gu Anran has never witnessed something like that before, she had a feeling that’s what would happen.
“This car was specially made, only the high-level staff in my family’s group receive this type of special treatment. They’re all specially designed for the individual and even some high-level executives may not be able to get one of these.” Mu Qingli said as she opened the door and sat in the driver’s seat while Gu Anran got into the passenger seat.
As the Eldest Young Miss of an underworld triad, she must take special precautions. Duan Hongwu’s car was similar in design, but his seemed to be on a higher level in terms of defense.
Then look at the ordinary car next to them, simply incomparable and looking extremely fragile next to the bulletproof cars.
Duan Hongwu drove his car in the lead, followed by Mu Qingli’s car and then the five college students behind them.
“Huh? There’s a gps!” Gu Anran looked at the high-tech gps displayed on the screen in front of her. Wouldn’t the gps consume a lot of the gas?
“This is solar powered, so I’m not afraid of it running out of electricity.” Mu Qingli explained.
So state-of-the-art…..really worthy of being called a rich heiress….
“By the way, the two of you didn’t seem to be surprised when you saw my healing ability!” Chi Mengyan, who was sitting in the backseat, said suddenly.
Obviously, because we already knew. Gu Anran muttered in her heart, but of course didn’t say it outloud. Instead she stretched out a hand and then a condensed ball of water appeared above her palm.
“That’s because I also have a supernatural ability, I’m a water ability user.”
“Oh? That’s awesome.” Mu Qingli studied the water ball floating above Gu Anran’s hands, a light flashing in her eyes, before she reached out to pat Gu Anran’s head.
“And I’m a speed ability user!” Hong Qingyi smiled, but she couldn’t show off her power in the car and could only say it verbally.
“Amazing!” Chi Mengyan hugged Hong Qingyi and stroked her hair.
Gu Anran looked out the window. They had left the campus now and were now out on the streets. The world outside was in quite a sorry state with broken vehicles littered all over the place as groups of two or three zombies lumbered about. There was blood everywhere, and with remnants of flesh from corpses lying about, it painted a chilling picture.
“By the way, Anran, do you know what my ability is?” Mu Qingli asked.
“Hm? Lightning and-” Gu Anran, who was focused on the miserable scene outside, unconsciously blurted out her true thoughts but quickly caught herself. She glanced uneasily at Mu Qingli and found that there was nothing wrong with the other’s expression. She breathed a sigh of relief, it seemed that the other didn’t hear her.
“I have lighting and telekinesis abilities!” Mu Qingli smiled and raised her hand. A golden, crackling ball of lighting appeared in her hand with a hissing sound and a pen sitting in the cupholder suddenly floated into the air and circled around them.
The lighting ball was to be expected, but Gu Anran was a little dumbfounded when she looked at the floating pen. Strange, the female lead was only supposed to have discovered her telekinesis a few months laters. Why did it manifest in her now? Has the plot been messed up that badly? Will the future still resemble the plot they had read earlier? Gu Anran became lost in thought as she mulled over these questions.
Mu Qingli glanced at Gu Anran who was lost in thought. Although Gu Anran had only said half a sentence before she stopped, Mu Qingli had clearly heard the word ‘lightning’. Her grip on the steering wheel tightened.
For several years now she had dreams about several different worlds, and on the day before the zombie outbreak, she had a dream about this new apocalyptic world. Everything in that dream had happened already. She really seemed to have experienced the apocalypse once already, but this time was different. Last time she fell in love with Duan Hongwu and there was no Gu Anran or Hong Qingyi in her dream. When she awoke from her dream, the end of the world really had come.
She originally thought that it was just a strange, lucid dream, but that theory was quickly discarded when Chi Mengyan, Duan Hongwu and Song Wenyan all reportedly had the same exact dream. And everything they have done till now was exactly the same as they did in their dreams. So what did all this mean?
Are they going to experience everything that happened in her dreams? What about the previous worlds she had dreamed about? Mu Qingli was understandably panicked and alarmed, but when Gu Anran appeared in front of her, her heart had thundered loudly in her chest.
Gu Anran treats her like they know each other. But they have never had any interaction with each other before, they might have been nodding acquaintances that never spoke with each other at most. Yet, in every world, Gu Anran would appear, albeit with a different face, but her name was the same in every world.
Gu Anran had called her name without any alienation, and with much familiarity that made her feel quite strange. She also felt this type of familiarity with Menyan, Hongwu and Wenyan. As if they were all mysteriously connected somehow in every world, but their faces were different each time.
Just who are you? What is your purpose? And will you stay by my side even during the last days of the world?
“Qingli? Qingli?” Gu Anran’s called out as she patted Mu Qingli on the shoulder.
“Huh?” Mu Qingli shook herself out of her thoughts and turned to look at Gu Anran.
“What are you daydreaming about? It’s time to get out and collect supplies!” Gu Anran smiled helplessly at the dumbfounded look on Mu Qingli’s face.
Her bright smile somewhat eased Mu Qingli’s dark mood. She smiled and nodded before getting out of the car. They had arrived at the front of a supermarket.
“Li, we’ll split up into two groups. One group will go in and grab the supplies while the other group will look after the cars.” Duan Hongwu walked over.
“Ok.” Mu Qingli nodded. Having someone guard the cars was a good idea. After all, during this chaotic apocalypse, they could easily be robbed by some unsavory characters. Without a car, it would be difficult to move even an inch anywhere in this zombie-infested world.
Song Wenyan, Chi Mengyan, and two of the other students stood guard outside while everyone else entered the supermarkets, eliminating all the zombies inside as they searched the shelves.
All of them grabbed a cart and began rummaging for supplies.
Most of the students went straight for the instant noodles, bread, or water bottles, while Gu Anran quietly walked to an aisle where a bunch of cookies were stocked. When her hand touched the cookies, they immediately disappeared into her bracelet.
After grabbing about two-thirds of the cookies, Gu Anran turned around and walked towards the freezer area. She had already used some points earlier to sort out the mess inside the space. One of the sections in the space bracelet could store frozen food. Meat will become quite rare in the future so it would be for the best if she could store as much as she can now.
However, when she turned around, she ran straight into Mu Qingli who was standing behind her. Mu Qingli stared right at her, causing Gu Anran to almost jump in fright.
“Uh…you….”
“Space ability?” Mu Qingli crossed her arms and asked.
“No, this is just a space bracelet that I…happened to find by chance.. It has about five square meters in it and you can store things in it.” Gu Anran carefully studied Mu Qingli’s expression and found that there wasn’t any anger or suspicion. She relaxed and breathed a sigh of relief.
“Hurry up and collect the supplies, you don’t want the others to discover this power.” Mu Qingli patted Gu Anranon the shoulder and turned around to return to the aisle where the cookies were stored.
Phew….good thing she wasn’t angry.
Gu Anran quickly walked into the frozen foods area. Most people would think of collecting frozen food, because not only do you have to thaw and cook these raw meats, who knows how long the electricity has been out. The food may have gone bad by now and if you get food poisoning from your food, what will you do when you have to fight a zombie while spewing from both ends?
However, it has only been less than half a day so even if these foods no longer had air-conditioning cooling them, they were still resting in lots of ice. Gu Anran threw most of the frozen food into her space bracelet, everything except for the vegetables. Can frozen vegetables even be eaten?
Then she moved towards a small snacks area, sweeping about two-thirds of it into her bracelet. She made sure no one was around her when she made such large movements, and now the small five-square-meters bracelets were stacked full of all kinds of supplies. Gu Anran saved a lot of space by stacking most of the stuff into boxes she found in the store and piled a lot of individual items together.
Then after thinking about it, Gu Anran also grabbed a few pots and pans that could be used for cooking. Although Duan Hongwu’s fire could technically cook things, his fire turned everything into ashes. If he tried to cook directly with his fire, everything would be burned into nothingness!
After searching through the rest of the supermarket, she looked outside and saw that the others had loaded the supplies into the car and seemed to be almost finished.
Gu Anran then remembered about their clothing problem. The temperature between day and night can be very large and it may not be obvious now, but soon the temperature will get scorching hot during the day and freezing cold at night. Many more people died from the heat and cold than from zombie bites.
After grabbing some clothes, Gu Anran returned to the supermarket’s entrance. However, she heard the sounds of arguing as soon as she arrived. Although it should be more accurate to say it was one-sided complaining.
“We have five people in one car, so we can’t fit many supplies in there. Why can’t we borrow some of your car’s space to store the rest of our supplies?” A boy said with his fists clenched. The other two boys stood behind him, and from their aggressive postures, one could see which side they were on. Meanwhile, the two girls watched the argument in a daze.
“To each their own. Naturally we will only store our supplies in our car. We are under no obligation to help you.” Duan Hongwu said coldly, while Hong Qingyi, Chi Mengyan and Mu Qingli busied themselves with loading the supplies into the two cars. They simply ignored the argument between Duan Hongwu and the others.
Gu Anran pursed her lips. She remembered in the plot that the five students had acted similarly. At the time, the male and female lead didn’t mind it much and nodded their heads in a show of kindness. However, they never would have expected that these people would be so shameless later on. Regardless of whether or not the food was actually theirs or not, they would use the excuse that the food was ‘the ones they had put in the car initially’. In the end, they took advantage of the free food.
At the time, the male and female lead didn’t say anything. Who knows why they were so patient and good-tempered all the time. If it were Gu Anran, she would have long stabbed them out of annoyance.
“You guys didn’t help fight the zombies, and didn’t help move the supplies eithers. So why should we help you?” Gu Anran snorted.
When fighting the dozen zombies in the supermarket just now, these people simply hid behind them. The three boys even hid behind the two girls and when the zombies were eliminated, they were the first to rush forward to claim the supplies. Then they stuffed their mouths full of food as they moved, simply disgusting.
“The men are speaking, a woman has no right to interfere!” The boy in the lead yelled at Gu Anran viciously, then his eyes flashed with jealousy and greed as he looked at the sword strapped on her back.
“You call yourself a man? Would a big man be so cowardly as to hide all the way in the back? What a ‘man’ you are!” Hong Qingyi clapped her hands in a sarcastic manner.
“You! You people have good weapons and supernatural abilities, so obviously you should be protecting ordinary people like us! What else would you use your supernatural abilities for?!!” The boy spoke passionately, but couldn’t conceal the jealousy in his eyes. In his head, he thought, ‘Why do you lot have all the abilities, but I don’t! And those two weapons! If I were to steal those two weapons, then I’ll be able to flourish in this apocalyptic world!’
If Gu Anran knew what the young man was thinking, she would have sneered at him. His imagination is quite colorful, but the reality is often cruel. It’ll be better if this delusional youth stayed at home and spared himself the shame.
Boom! A black fireball blasted at the boy’s foot, a small pit forming on the ground as a burnt smell entered the air.
“Who do you think you are? Protect you? Here, I will help send you to your afterlife right now.” Duan Hongwu said with a dark expression as a black fireball appeared in his hands.
The five students trembled in shock as they started at the scorched ground beneath them. They were even more frightened by Duan Hongwu’s words. They didn’t dare to express their anger either, and Gu Anran felt refreshed by the male lead’s show of power.
