Chapter 48

Bark had already tried the watch-like phone. On the left side, there were three buttons that could be pre-set with three numbers, but it was clearly empty. It could only receive calls. Now, the buzzing sound accompanied by flashing lights was urging him to answer, but Bark just held it and looked at it without a word.
Muchen Fei, barefoot but still in stockings, tiptoed, acting particularly stealthily. If there had been a full-length mirror, she might have been startled by her own unimaginable sneaky actions, which were quite different from her usual image. Her lips moved, but she didn't speak.
Bark couldn't see any information or numbers on the watch's screen and hung it back on the tree branch, a bit disappointed. He was unfamiliar with this new product, and it was a low-end children's item. He turned and walked back, and Muchen Fei, tiptoeing like a cat, followed him back. However, this time it was much better, especially since she found that the elastic band on the waist of the large shorts didn't seem very tight. If she pulled too hard and it fell off, how embarrassing would that be? So she let go.
When they returned to the fire, Muchen Fei finally spoke in a soft voice, "Why didn't you answer? Afraid of hearing the accent?"
Bark shook his head and replied in a low voice, "This thing can be tracked. He can see we're still on the island, but if I don't answer, he might get worried and come to check. If he comes early, what if I answer and scare him away?"
Muchen Fei suddenly understood and made a reasonable expression. She tiptoed and bent over to go back to her side. Just as she was about to sit down, she realized why she had bent over, and her voice became even softer, like a mosquito: "I need to... go to the bathroom!" The last four words were so fast that Bark, with his poor hearing, missed them.
Understanding her concern, Bark nodded and stood up, grabbing two large banana leaves and leaning them against a nearby tree trunk, like a simulated carriage in Peking Opera: "This is..."
Seeing that Muchen Fei had turned her head away and was embarrassed to come over, Bark took the initiative to speak: "Do you want me to stand far away and let you handle it yourself, or do you want me to stay nearby but not see or hear anything?"
Muchen Fei let out a long breath, thinking he was quite clever: "The latter."
Bark turned his back and squatted next to the banana leaves, covering his ears: "Okay..."
Muchen Fei deceived herself, but when she came over, she asked Bark to check that the ground had no standing flowers or plants and no flying insects. Finally, she even made Bark move two stones and adjust the spacing for a while. She even found a burning pine branch, dipped it in mugwort, and stuck it in front of the spot to light it up before asking him to turn back and cover his ears again!
Bark felt that after this ordeal, his professional skills and patience with clients would definitely improve!
Of course, the sound of the rain behind her was easy to imagine. Bark tried to think about when he could leave to distract himself, otherwise, the scenes in his mind might make him bleed from the nose.
The girl took a long time to convince herself psychologically and physiologically before she started. Especially the loud sound of water in the quiet night sky almost killed her, so she went intermittently. Afterward, she washed her hands and the necessary parts with mineral water, making a lot of noise to confuse the difference with the previous water sounds. She kept looking back to see if Bark was peeking, and it took a long time, even the sky started to drizzle!
It started raining!
Summer rain always comes so suddenly! It startled Muchen Fei, who was still in her panties at her knees. She looked back and saw Bark still covering his ears and squatting nearby, so she hurriedly pulled up her panties and socks, adjusted her skirt, and checked everything before speaking: "What should we do?"
Only then did she turn around and realize that the light from the torch she had chosen projected all her small movements onto Bark's side. Without turning his head, he knew what she was doing, including the shy actions she made while looking down. Her face turned bright red!
Bark, unaware, jumped over to pick up the watch. This thing wasn't very waterproof. He pointed to the small black house: "You go inside and sleep. I'll keep watch outside..." This was his original plan. Such a picky girl couldn't possibly share a room, and he didn't want to bother anyone, so he had built a treehouse for himself, which was also convenient for listening at night. The house was relatively stable and suitable for defense.
But Muchen Fei, tiptoeing and holding her shoes, hesitated for only a second before coming back with a simple reason: "It smells too bad!"
Bark wasn't surprised: "Then you sleep here. Cover up well at night so you don't get cold." He grabbed the suit that had been washed and dried and his work clothes, threw them on the plant bed, and went to the small black house to sleep under the smelly blanket. This girl really couldn't accept such a thing.
The rain was pouring down, drenching the ground, the fire, and extinguishing the flames, splashing raindrops everywhere. Bark only picked up the dagger, the cheap gun, and the entrenching tool and went into the small cement-brick house. The ground was still dirt, and a sour smell filled the air, making it hard for most people to tolerate. It was probably a temporary shelter for fishing or scientific breeding, discovered and used by the kidnappers.
He had slept in pigsties before and didn't care. He arranged the items in his usual way and grabbed the smelly blanket to cover himself and sleep.
But just as he closed his eyes, he sensed something and opened them again. In the flashing lightning and thunder, a graceful figure stood at the door of the small house.
Her arms were crossed, and she still wore high heels. Even though the rain and wind had intensified and the temperature had dropped, Muchen Fei still held her chin high and stood there with her lips tightly pressed, not saying a word. If it weren't for the wide eaves, she would have been completely drenched. But even so, the occasional lightning revealed her wet hair sticking to her face, and her dress clinging to her body. Hmm, her chest size wasn't small at all!
Bark got up reluctantly: "Do you think it's not enough to shelter you from the rain or not safe enough? Do you want to come back, or stay together?" He definitely didn't think she was offering herself. For such a girl to share a bed with a stranger would be almost as bad as taking her life.
Muchen Fei replied with a simple arrogance: "The latter, but it's too smelly here!" She wouldn't say what she didn't want to, even though she had already admitted to herself that this was a situation she had to compromise.
Bark was a bit helpless. Maybe he couldn't be angry with such a girl. It was probably a man's nature. Looking at the pouring rain outside, Muchen Fei had already made a decisive move to leave. He picked up a torn mineral water carton and held it over her head to shield her from the rain. In just a few steps, he was drenched!
Muchen Fei treated him like a bodyguard holding an umbrella over her head, walking slowly and carefully to avoid getting her feet dirty!
Bark was drenched, but he wasn't wearing much, so he treated it like a shower. The wet shorts were a bit heavy, and he had to hold them up. The key issue was that the small shelter was for one person. Muchen Fei naturally lay down, and Bark didn't think he should squeeze in, so he sat at the entrance of the small shelter!
His legs were exposed to the rain, and raindrops kept splashing onto him. In short, he was basically drenched.
But Bark just folded the wet carton and placed it on his head as a hat and pillow, leaning against a small tree and dozing off. Sleeping in the wind and rain was a common occurrence in Eastern Europe, and this wasn't much of a challenge for survival in the wild.
Bark fell asleep quickly and was even satisfied with the rain. Because of the rain, Uncle Cheng probably wouldn't come to the island at night, so he could sleep soundly.
The small conical treehouse, like an Indian wigwam, was covered with banana leaves on three-quarters of its exterior, with only a triangular opening now blocked by Bark to shield the wind and rain.
His bare back was as still as a solid rock. Occasionally, lightning flashed across the sky, reflecting a dark shine. The thunder that had scared Muchen Fei earlier now seemed harmless.
Muchen Fei was surprised to find herself quite satisfied!
Satisfied with such a terrible environment!
Except for the wet clothes sticking to her body, which was a bit uncomfortable...
But there was no way Muchen Fei could take off her dress and lie naked here. Wearing the dead man's suit just made her shiver. She finally concluded it was the stockings. After much thought, she made a decision, sat up quietly, and carefully took off her stockings. Just as she lifted her buttocks to slide them off, she heard Bark, as if he had eyes in the back of his head: "It's best not to take off your clothes. Any warmth is a necessary means of survival."
Muchen Fei, supporting herself with her hands to keep her buttocks off the bed, was so embarrassed she almost fell off. Had he seen her? She quickly pulled down her skirt to cover her exposed thighs, turned her back to the outside, and made a pouting face, but the most she could say was "Big bad guy," which probably had no power.
And her tone was a bit coquettish. Feeling uncomfortable, she turned over, saw the still back, and turned back, finally speaking: "Uncomfortable!"
Bark's voice was cold: "Then go lie in the rain, or on that bed..."
Muchen Fei, pouting, wanted to cry, curled up on the tree vine and grass bed, looking at the dark leaf wall. She finally felt strong enough to compare it to the possible horrors of the day and was satisfied, right?
After much internal struggle, she decided to turn over again. It seemed that looking at the square head formed by the carton made her feel more at ease. She closed her eyes like a child, curled up, and used her hands as a pillow. She was a bit cold and wet, but she would never cover herself with the dead man's clothes, never!
Thinking this, maybe because of the shock of the day, her nerves were already very tired. Listening to the loud raindrops on the banana leaves, she fell asleep quickly.
In her dream... it was a bit cold, but soon it felt warm, and most importantly, very safe...
Until she was suddenly awakened by a gunshot!
