The two-month break came to an end as August drew to a close. On the first day of school, Rong Jun went straight to the student council to get a registration form. It took him several days to sort through all the details.

During that time, he was constantly followed by a particularly well-behaved and quiet “wolf.” Their close relationship quickly became the talk of the campus. Even before officially joining, Rong Jun had already gained quite a bit of attention within the student council.

Rong Jun didn’t mind people knowing about their relationship. What troubled him was something else. Yan Chen had gradually begun to center his entire life around him, rejecting everything and everyone else, existing solely by his side.

Of course, Rong Jun’s selfish side wanted to indulge in that happiness.

But from Yan Chen’s perspective, if things continued this way, his world would eventually contain only Rong Jun.

What would happen to him then… if Rong Jun were gone?

Whenever that thought surfaced, a vague but persistent unease settled in his chest, impossible to ignore.

Two days before the club recruitment ended, Rong Jun brought home a stack of flyers. After dinner, he sat down with Yan Chen to talk about it seriously.

Yan Chen’s reaction was anything but positive.

“Don’t you like me following you?”

“Of course I do. I’m just worried about you.”

“What’s wrong with having only you in my world?”

Yan Chen brushed several flyers aside, stepped forward, grabbed Rong Jun’s wrist, and pushed him down onto the carpet.

There was a ripple in his gaze, a faint tension between his brows. The emotion in his eyes felt like invisible hands tightening around Rong Jun’s throat, not painful but suffocating.

“Yan Chen…”

Sensing something was off, Rong Jun raised his free hand and gently stroked his cheek.

“I’ve never asked you before…but why do you like me so much?”

“Am I putting pressure on you?”

Rong Jun shook his head. He gently brushed aside the stray hair on Yan Chen’s forehead.

“I love the way you look at me, like I’m the only person in your world. It makes me feel safe…” he muttered then paused. “…But I’m also a little scared.”

“Scared?” Yan Chen’s heart jolted. “Why?”

“I’m afraid that one day… I’ll leave you here alone.”

Rong Jun couldn’t fully explain it. He only knew that whenever Yan Chen clung too tightly to him, something deep inside him would stir with unease.

In that instant, a vision flashed through Yan Chen’s mind. Imagining himself, alone, trapped in darkness. Fear and despair numbed his limbs twisting the expression on his face.

“Yan Chen?”

Rong Jun was startled to see his body trembling as his face turned deathly pale. Realizing he might have said the wrong thing, panic rose in his chest.

“That’s not what I meant. I’m not saying I’ll leave you, I just—”

“I’ll go.”

Yan Chen suddenly cut him off.

“I’ll be good. I’ll listen to you.” Yan Chen mumbled out of control, “Just please don’t leave me alone again.” Yan Chen’s voice trembled as he buried himself back into Rong Jun’s arms.

Rong Jun froze at the vulnerability and desperation in his tone. When he came back to himself, the words he wanted to say stuck in his throat. All he could see was that fragile, pleading expression… waiting for reassurance.

In the end, all he managed was a soft:

“…Mm.”

…

As promised, Yan Chen applied to join a club. But just as he was about to submit the form, Rong Jun stopped him.

If Yan Chen was only doing this for his sake, then the whole suggestion lost its meaning. In truth, Rong Jun didn’t really mind things the way they were, he still liked having Yan Chen by his side.

Unexpectedly, Yan Chen refused. He insisted on submitting his application to the fencing club.

Over the next few days, Rong Jun found himself worrying. From time to time, he would sneak over during activities to check on him.

To his surprise, Yan Chen was genuinely participating.

And— He looked incredibly handsome in his fencing uniform with sword in hand.

Rong Jun stood by the doorway, watching so intently that he didn’t notice Zhao Chong, the head of the fencing club, walking up beside him.

Zhao Chong followed his gaze to where Yan Chen was sparring with his teammates. He nodded in approval, then casually flicked his tail against Rong Jun’s lower back twice.

Startled, Rong Jun turned around.

“Here to see Yan Chen again?” Zhao Chong called out loudly.

His voice rang across the room, instantly drawing everyone’s attention.

Rong Jun: “…”

Yan Chen, of course, was among them who noticed.

The moment he spotted Rong Jun, he stopped immediately, pulled off his mask, and hurried over. His previously still tail began wagging energetically.

“Qingqing~”

“Haha…” Rong Jun laughed awkwardly. “Oh… you are here? I was just passing by.” he lied through his teeth.

“Are you done with student council work?” Yan Chen asked.

“Not yet. I’m heading back now.”

A flicker of disappointment crossed Yan Chen’s face.

“Oh… then you should go.”

Rong Jun’s heart softened. He reached out and patted his head.

“It’ll be over soon. I’ll come pick you up so we can go home together.”

Yan Chen’s face brightened instantly, his ears twitching with excitement.

“Okay~ I’ll wait for you.”

Watching him, Rong Jun felt both amused and comforted.

Since when had he started to feel like a parent? It’s like he is raising a little toddler.
