At the racetrack, all sorts of people gathered here, waving their betting tickets and cheering for the horses they had bet on.
Aoyama paid no attention to the bustling and noisy scene around him. His purpose for coming here was to make money, not because he had any interest in horse racing.
In his previous life as an emperor, Aoyama had seen all kinds of fine horses. He had no interest in the modern horses that were bred solely for short sprints and could not be used in battle.
Using his spiritual power to predict fate, Aoyama easily determined the rankings of all the horses in the next race. He then placed his bets in a way that would multiply his winnings tenfold.
After the race, the 100,000 yen he bet would turn into 1,000,000 yen.
Soon, the race ended, and the rankings were exactly as Aoyama had predicted. He smoothly collected his 1,000,000 yen.
After that, Aoyama no longer paid attention to the subsequent races and turned to go home.
Although Aoyama could have placed more bets and won even more, he had no intention of doing so.
To Aoyama, money was just an external possession; having enough was enough, and there was no need to have too much.
In his previous life of over 300 years, especially before he became a disciple of Lu Dongbin, he had been a beggar, a refugee, a thief, a bandit, a general, and an emperor.
He had drunk from filthy ditches, fought for leftovers from dogs, and been despised by the ugliest women. He had also tasted the finest wines, eaten the rarest delicacies, and possessed the most beautiful woman in the world.
Having experienced everything that life could offer, he had taken and let go. Aoyama, who had seen through the superficiality of the world, knew that money was necessary for life, but he would not be controlled by it.
Getting off at the bus stop near his apartment, the sky was gradually darkening.
Passing by a convenience store, Aoyama went inside, picked up a fried chicken katsu bento, and prepared it as his dinner for the day.
But as he turned to leave, he saw cans of beer on the shelves.
After a moment's hesitation, Aoyama picked up a shopping basket and started filling it with beer, stopping only when it was full.
In Japan, minors are not allowed to drink alcohol. Fortunately, Aoyama was not wearing his school uniform, and with his calm demeanor, he did not look like a teenager secretly buying alcohol, so he managed to deceive the convenience store clerk. Otherwise, the store would definitely not have sold him the alcohol.
Thus, Aoyama carried a large shopping bag filled with beer, some snacks to go with the drinks, and a fried chicken katsu bento back to his apartment.
"Koiko, good evening," Aoyama greeted Kitagawa Koiko, who was sitting on the wooden floor under the eaves of the apartment, enjoying the sunset and drinking tea.
"Aoyama-kun, you're not being good," Kitagawa Koiko said with a smile, looking at the beer in the shopping bag Aoyama was carrying.
"Want to have a drink? I'll treat you," Aoyama said with a carefree smile.
"I prefer tea to alcohol," Kitagawa Koiko politely declined.
"That's a shame; drinking is one of life's great pleasures!" Aoyama shrugged.
"Do you really like drinking that much?" Kitagawa Koiko asked curiously.
"Of course, life has few pleasures, and without alcohol, it would be even more boring," Aoyama smiled.
"Even so, that kind of pleasure isn't suitable for someone your age!" Kitagawa Koiko said with a smile.
"Life is for enjoying, regardless of age," Aoyama shook his head.
"Alright, but remember not to drink too much; it's bad for your health," Kitagawa Koiko said helplessly.
"Haha, don't worry, I won't get drunk," Aoyama laughed.
After saying goodbye to Kitagawa Koiko, Aoyama walked towards his room.
Aoyama's room was at the end of the corridor. Next to him lived a middle-aged construction worker with a balding head, and on the other side of the construction worker lived a fashionable Shibuya girl.
Just as Aoyama was about to pass by the Shibuya girl's room, the door suddenly burst open, and a young man with dyed hair stumbled out, with the Shibuya girl's curses and various items being thrown at him, including shoes and water cups, hitting the young man.
The young man, while dodging the items, awkwardly glanced at Aoyama, nodded, and then ran out of the apartment.
Aoyama watched the young man run away, shook his head with a smile, and remembered clearly that yesterday, the Shibuya girl had been intimately with the young man, returning to her room together. He wondered if they would reconcile.
At the same time, the construction worker opened his door, apparently hearing the commotion and coming out to check. He saw Aoyama in the corridor.
"It's you, Uesugi. What happened here?" The construction worker looked hesitantly at the mess in front of the Shibuya girl's room.
"It seems she had an argument with her boyfriend, but I don't know the details. I just got back and passed by here," Aoyama pointed to the Shibuya girl's room and shrugged.
"That's not my boyfriend. We've broken up," the Shibuya girl, with dyed yellow hair and tanned skin, poked her head out of the room and shouted, then slammed the door shut.
Aoyama and the construction worker exchanged glances, both shrugging and looking helpless.
"Hey, Uesugi, I remember you're still a student? How did you get so much beer?" The construction worker noticed the large amount of beer Aoyama was carrying and stared at him with wide eyes.
"Uncle Shimada, if you were a cute girl, I'd be happy to see you staring at me like that, but you're an uncle, so please don't act cute," Aoyama said sarcastically as he walked past the construction worker, reached his room, and casually took a can of beer from his shopping bag, tossing it to the construction worker. "Here, have a drink."
"Young people these days are so bold, not only drinking but also joking with adults," the construction worker said with a look of moral decline, catching the beer and adding, "Thanks."
"You're welcome," Aoyama said, entering his room and closing the door.
The construction worker's name was Shimada Isaku. It was said that he had never married, but that was just a rumor. Aoyama had overheard the Shibuya girl and the young man chatting as they walked past him yesterday, but he only heard that much.
The Shibuya girl's name was Takeuchi Kinako. Since Aoyama had not heard any gossip about her, he did not know much about her, but from today's scene, she was at least quite fierce when arguing.
