Chapter 10.1 - Touché mon amour

Miller slowly raised his body and touched his face again. His face was still damp. It wasn’t just a liquid as he thought but his tears, flowing down his eyes.

It was his first time doing that, even after all those years. Miller was regretting it all: making such a plan, not saying anything when he had feelings for Ben. The regrets didn’t start until it got out of control. His long life wasn’t helpful either.

The cold feeling of longing stroke him. Miller really wanted him. He had never wanted anything in his 750 years.

He had laughed at Aidan’s persistent obsession with Daniel. It was ridiculous to open their hearts to humans who lived incomparably short lifes. Aiden acted as if Daniel would meet him again when he was reborn. As if their relationship was a solid thread connected by fate that could never get cut.

Aidan looked so pathetic then, but now that’s what Miller wanted.

If this time Ben ended his life, Miller could just wait and try to find him by any way in his next life.

God. If you really exist, please break this cursed fate.

Miller prayed to himself. The first tears poured out endlessly. He didn’t even cry out loud. Miller cried with held breath in case someone would hear him. He had always lived like that and was destined to be the same in the future.

It was a life that he never wanted what he couldn’t have. Miller trembled in deep despair. And now it was impossible.

Miller was nervous. No matter how hard he tried to find Ben, he couldn’t feel his energy. I tried to find him by searching London in its entirety, but he still didn’t feel even a faint energy. Even if Miller did find him, he couldn’t do anything, but it was still frustrating that he didn’t even know where Ben was right now.

The moment he left his room two weeks ago, Ben’s presence was erased.

Miller ignored the approaching spring and stood by the window watching the windy street. The wind felt like his own sigh.

Miller had to fully accept the failure of the plan, and he admitted that he was the one responsible for this failure. He tried to catch both rabbits, but lost them all.

Even now, Miller thought the plan was perfect. Done well, he could defeat both the Dhampir and McDowell Jonas. Ben didn’t know, but the Dhampir itself, Benjamin, was created by McDowell Jonas in the first place.

Jonas didn’t like the senior council system, which would ban vampires from drinking humans with a developing modern society and secure blood in a normal way. At the same time, he was dissatisfied with the rank of the race.

It was Aidan that Jonas first noticed to destroy the existing class. Aidan was interested in the game against Jonas, but didn’t comply with Jonas’ desire to destroy the system. Aidan’s theory was that destroying the system would create another system in disorder.

The truth was that there was nothing as delicious as biting the throat of an alive human, but Jonas’ attempt to destroy the system didn’t provide a more delicious meal. It was just for the fun of living a long and boring life.

Jonas wanted humans to get sick of fear, and he enjoyed watching it. He coaxed young ones who still didn’t know the taste of blood to bite people. Once they tasted it, he controlled the guys who were running around like crazy and increased the number one by one, but he was quickly tired of the elders assembly, which was more solid than he expected.

In the end, Jonas’ idea was Dhampirs. He deliberately ordered them to rape humans to give birth to Dhampirs. Just before they sucked all the blood, he terrorized them with almost death. Some of them were actually killed by Jonas, but some others succeeded.

If they endured the moment’s desire, Jonas guaranteed them the freedom of sucking blood. Jonas found a way to drink the blood of the living by using his brain well.

That’s how Dhampir was created and expanded, threatening the elders. However, most of the Dhampirs that Jonas had sprayed over the past 100 years have grown without even knowing that they are Dhampirs. Only Benjamin recognized and developed his abilities and even hunted.

He was Jonas’ best Dhampir. A child born on Saturday who could sense vampires. His senses, which started from the beginning, developed as he grew older.

At first, it was just that, but at some point Ben smelled them , and he started to hear the signs again. If he was conscious of seeing and listening to what others couldn’t see and continued to develop his ability, Ben would certainly be a great threat to the vampires.

Ben mistakenly thought he was made like that by his mother, but he wasn’t. Jonas chose women who might want revenge in the first place and ordered the vampire to have rape them.

Jonas annoyed the elders assembly and played around with Aidan. If you left a Dhampir be, they would become a threat to vampires as they were Dhampir, the same way Jonas was a threat to himself.

At the assembly, Miller concluded that both Dhampir and Jonas needed to be killed. As long as both were in the Holy Land, the Dhampir could be killed and Jonas could be caught.

The prison to lock Jonas up was already ready. All they had to do was create a situation where Jonas and the Dhampir would be in the Holy Land. Jonas would not easily go to the Holy Land, but it would be possible if there was bait.

The plan was definitely going smoothly. Now all Miller was thinking about was why Ben was the Dhampir. It would have been better a hundred times if he were just a human.

At this rate, Miller would collapse even if Jonas didn’t do anything. Jonas’s next move was really obvious.

Then it was clear that Aidan was next. Aidan, who refused to join him, Aidan, who loved a human.

Jonas’ confidence in breaking down Miller O’Donoughue, which he thought was difficult, would have hit the sky if he knew this.

The screeching sound of the knife made Ben frown and put more strength on the hand holding it. As soon as he applied strength and swung it, he frowen even more because of the blood that popped out. Then, with an insensitive look on his face, he threw the vampire’s neck, which had just been cut, into the bonfire.

It wasn’t long after the blood that Ben felt lukewarm about the splash on his face. The flames flared up for a moment and then calmed down. Without knowing how many days had passed since that day, Ben hunted at random. There was no way he could express his boiling anger. Jonas took the gun he had, and now he didn’t make more bullets, so he began to use the knife as he used to.

Ben killed anyone suspected. He didn’t even care even if he thought that it could have been a human. He shouldn’t have shown mercy to them in the first place.

He had to live according to his destiny. He wished for and dreamed of something ridiculous, and that’s how he ended up like that.

Ben rubbed blood on his face with his palm, but rather than wiping it, he had more.

“Damn it.”

This is why it was more annoying to catch guys who just finished their meal.

Ben took out a cigarette in front of the moderately burning fire and lit it. Even so, he felt uncomfortable seeing blood and didn’t want it to splash on his body. Ben started thinking of replacing the dagger with a gun, but just shook his head. It was the same anyway. He just slayed them , and when the time came, they died. Of course, it was another story about when they could die.

Ben thought he’d rather go to the Holy Land and die, but he didn’t want to die in the hands of vampires he had been hunting so far, soo Ben had to live like this: hiding his identity and killing vampires.

The cigarette in his mouth tasted so bad that Ben spat and walked down the street. The dagger also consumed more energy than the gun.

As he overworked last night, Ben managed to get out of bed by dusk. Looking out the window, the clouded street was no different from any other of the gloomy London.

Ben felt irritated when he opened the refrigerator to eat bacon as a habit and found the refrigerator empty. He only went to the supermarket once after he moved. It was natural that the refrigerator was empty.

Ben put on his clothes roughly with a lazy gesture and headed to the mart. It was such a hassle to feel hunger.

He lit up a cigarette at the end of the alley before going to the supermarket. After a long breath of the cigarette smoke, Ben cursed to his insides.

What was standing at the other end of the alley and staring at him was certainly not a person.

Miller stamped his foot in the moving car. No matter how hard he had tried for days, he couldn’t find Ben’s presence. The only place where Miller thought he had found him, there was only a vampire’s corpse.

It was dangerous to keep killing vampires like this. Also, the weapon Ben was using now was a knife, not a gun. Unlike guns with a long range, that had a shorter range. Now fully aware that there was a Dhampir who killed vampires, the elder assembly had ordered to bring the Dhampir to the Holy Land no matter what.

Attacks on Ben would begin that night at the latest. It was obvious how to deal with those who threatened their race. Perhaps the assembly would drag Ben to the Holy Land and bite him. Ben, turned into a vampire, would be locked up so that he won’t be able to suck blood, so he would dry up in his eternal thirst and die.

Miller, full of thoughts, knew that he had to find Ben before that happened.

“When you find chief inspector Benjamin Edgar, call me immediately.”

Miller was so concerned that he had reached out to the MKV Inspector.

“Did you end up threatening Ben?”

Inspector Bradley asked back in a voice full of sadness.

“Isn’t that what you expected? The safety of the inspector is guaranteed.”

Captain Bradley once again sighed at Miller’s calm words. The inspector and MI6 had signed a deal to keep the MKV alive after handing over Ben to the vampires. It was just a Dhampir and, meanwhile, there were hundreds of people in the organization who had their own families.

If Miller eliminated both Dhampir and Jonas, the threat to humans would also be reduced, as ruthless vampires would disappear. Inspector Bradley knew about Miller and traded Ben from the beginning.

Miller was now sad that the inspector felt bad for Ben. Anyway, it was a dirty race that thought only of human beings. So far, he had handed Ben over to Miller and told him exactly where Ben hunted, even though Ben was the one who had killed vampires and protected humans many times.

“I’ll call you as soon as I know.”

Miller hung up the phone and looked outside again at the inspector’s words. If the attack began before he found Ben, he couldn’t guess how many people he would be fighting against.

Even if he wouldn’t die or get hurt, there was definitely a limit to his physical strength. If he was tired and had a hard time moving, it was clear that if he rushed in and dragged him away, something really irreversible would happen.

Now Miller really was regretting not stopping the plan. The winner of this game was Jonas. If he made O’Donoughue collapse, the elders’ assembly would also collapse. Jonas could have both things he wanted.
